Chapter 13 - Let me protect you

Logan couldn't sleep the whole night because he wasn't on good terms with his wife. Her angry face and how she held him by the collar kept playing in his head every time he closed his eyes to sleep. He hated that she was upset with him.

After so many failed attempts to fall asleep, he eventually got out of bed. He was going to make it up with Adalyn even if she yelled at him for coming into her room at night to disturb her sleep.

Logan, reaching the living room, looked at the spot where he and his wife had a disagreement. It then struck his mind that they both didn't have dinner because of what happened at that moment so he went into the kitchen to cook something instant and delicious and that was noodles.

He made it nutritious by adding vegetables and protein. "Well, I hope I can bribe her with this," he said to himself. With that, he went upstairs to find her room.

Knock knock

Adalyn couldn't sleep as well mostly because she was hungry and angry. She hated the fact that Logan scared her to the point she blanked out. How could he be so childish? Even if he ever wanted to be childish it should definitely not be with her because they weren't friends.

They were married but that didn't mean she liked him and wanted to be close to him. He was so mysterious and dangerous and she shouldn't have anything to do with such a man.

All he wanted from her was children and that was the only thing he'd get from her. She vowed to herself never to let him get into her with that charming and unique attitude of his.

She was with her phone chatting on the group chat with her two other friends. One named Joy and the other named Yasmin. The group was then named JAY–the beginning letters of each of their names.

Adalyn complained about her husband but not in detail. She only mentioned how annoying and mysterious he can be and both her new friends began to lament about how their husbands behaved as well.

She was enjoying it but all they were mentioning kept reminding her of John and couldn't help but think about how sweet her life might have been if he didn't choose his ex-girlfriend. At some point, she discarded those thoughts and tucked herself in her bed after texting Good night to her friends even though it was already 2 am.

Just when she closed her eyes to sleep, she heard knocks on the door. It was that annoying husband of hers again.

Well, she sat up and told him to come in but in a very low tone. She thought he wouldn't hear her but his ears were very sensitive and active, which was part of his special ability.

'Was I too loud? I wanted to make him wait longer than that before letting him in,' Adalyn sneered as he entered her room with a tray.

The aroma of what he had in his hands brushed through her nose as he proceeded into her room. Her stomach growled.

"What do you want?" However, she wasn't desperate for the food even though she could see herself begging him to feed her as if she was a dog.

"Can I…" he used his body language to ask if he could sit close to her.

"No," Adalyn declined. 'But you are hungry…' then she changed her mind. "Whatever, just don't…" she moved her body as he came to sit next to her in her bed. "... maintain distance," she gestured with her hand.

"I'm okay as long as you listen to me," he said.

"What do you want to say? That you didn't mean to scare me?" All she wanted was the food!

"That aside. We couldn't have dinner because…Well it's not too late to fill our stomach, right?"

"Do I have to eat with you?" She seemed to be disgusted by that idea.

"No, you don't have to. I just want you to know that I didn't plan to scare you or prank you. I went out when it started raining to look for you because I was worried and when I couldn't find you, I assumed that you might have gone home, so I returned home but when I finally saw you, you looked pale and lost. I really didn't know that I frightened you."

Adalyn's heart softened when she heard his explanation. "I couldn't sleep because you are mad at me," he added.

'He is the only one who actually cares about my feelings. My parents never cared and John didn't as well. Perhaps he isn't what people call him. He has been nice to me.' Adalyn was having a change of heart.

"I was terrified back there. I was alone and…"

Logan didn't let her finish. "Please Adalyn, always let me know of your whereabouts. You are a lady, you shouldn't be all alone at night."

"Perhaps you haven't heard of how psychic I can be… I was told that I almost murdered a man because he tried to touch me. I don't remember doing such but I did hurt the man pretty badly. I don't even know how to fight so how was I able to do that? So, if I can do that…"

"I want to protect you even if you are capable of doing it yourself," Logan cut in again. "Eat up, you must be hungry," he was relieved that he could talk it out with her. She listened to him.

"Why don't we just install bulbs outside so it wouldn't be so scary when coming in?" She suggested as he prepared her food.

"If that's what you want then I'll get it done tomorrow…" he realized that it was tomorrow already. "...by dawn then."

'It feels so nice talking to him this way. He isn't scary at all.'

Adalyn forgot her vow because of the food he gave her. She enjoyed the meal and fell asleep almost immediately after she ate. She had had a very long day.

Logan didn't know what was going on with him. Ever since his body got excited because of her, he had been feeling attached to her. It was impossible for him to feel attached to any woman because he had a past that ruined his whole life.

And now he feared that his past would ruin the life he had now.
