"Should I come to pick you up? It's getting late," Logan typed and sent to Adalyn who was busy with her friends at the mall.
Logan had been receiving debits messages from his bank but he wasn't bothered about how much Adalyn would spend. He just wanted her back home.
After staying two weeks away from her, he left his work to his assistant. He needed to spend time with his newly wed wife if he wanted that family he yearned for, the family he once had but was taken away from him. Now, he wanted to create that family again and with Adalyn.
He followed her on every social media app he had and saw that she visited one of the best restaurants in the city. 'She must have enjoyed herself,' he thought.
Well, he spent his day fixing bulbs around and while he was at it, he thought he saw someone in the woods. Perhaps he did see the man but wanted to ignore him because now wasn't the right time to meet him.
Adalyn didn't reply to his message immediately but she eventually did after forty minutes. "Don't pick me up," she said.
"I'm coming to get you whether you like it or not," Logan grabbed an umbrella but decided to take two umbrellas. He could tell that it was going to rain soon.
'Two umbrellas?' the voice in his head questioned him.
Adalyn replied to his text. "I'm fine on my own."
'Don't you want a spark between both of you?'
Logan pictured himself and Adalyn using the same umbrella. She'd cling to him like she did the other night when she first got here.
"I don't like that you are fine on your own. I'm coming to you and if you think I don't know your location…" he didn't complete the text because he assumed Adalyn would figure out the rest.
"Leave me alone!" She responded immediately.
"Almost there," his message dropped in a second.
Adalyn's frown was so obvious that her friends noticed. They were at the mall after enjoying themselves at the park. She shopped not only for herself but for her friends. They all lavished on things they wanted.
It was when Adalyn was in the mall with her friends that she received text messages from her joy-killer husband.
"What's the matter?" Yasmin noticed first. "Who spoiled your mood?" Her hand was on Adalyn's shoulder.
"Hmm?" Joy contributed.
Adalyn's face was dull for a while. She couldn't even continue shopping with the mood she had before. "Logan wants to pick me up," she appeared frustrated.
"A man that picks you up?" Yasmin was impressed.
Adalyn wasn't surprised. Her face dropped upon seeing her friend's reaction. They were on that bastard's side again like they were in the morning.
"So dreamy. My man must be at work by this time…" Joy didn't finish her statement when she heard the name her husband usually called her.
"Jojo baby!" His voice was clear so she turned around to see him standing and waving at her.
Joy's small face lit up as she was super excited to see her husband. He hadn't picked her up for a long time because he was mostly busy. "Baby boo!" She responded in a very cute way, outstretching her hands as they approached each other.
Yasmin and Adalyn could only watch. "Joy's husband looks so young," Yasmin commented. "He's cute."
"Should you be giving a review?" Adalyn lowered her gaze to look at Yasmin.
Yasmin chuckled and returned her gaze to Joy and her husband who were kissing and hugging each other as if they hadn't seen each other for a long time. "Cute," Yasmin commented again, blushing for Joy.
However, Adalyn didn't feel anything about what she saw. She was numb and somehow irritated. She wished that she was happy and feeling exactly as Yasmin was to see Joy experience romance in public.
She couldn't help but think that everything about romance and love was fake. "She looks really happy and it makes me glad," Adalyn uttered. She was pleased to see Joy happy.
Adalyn and Yasmin watched as Joy approached them with her husband holding her to his side.
"Girls, this is my sweet baby boo-my husband," she glanced at him with a smile. "Baby, these are my friends, Adalyn and Yasmin," she carried out the introduction.
"Nice to meet you both," the man acknowledged them. "Thank you for always keeping my baby company but unfortunately, I have to take her with me. We have some things we…" he was glancing at her from time to time.
Blushing Joy stopped him from saying much because she was shy about it.
"She's all yours," Yasmin uttered, teasing Joy with her facial expressions.
With that, Joy left with her husband after kissing her friends good night.
Yasmin didn't stop talking about how beautiful Joy's marriage was. She also hoped that it remained that way forever.
Adalyn added. "I hope so too. I don't want anything to ruin that happy face she had earlier."
In ten minutes, while Yasmin was waiting for Adalyn to come out with the outfit she went to try on in the dressing room, her eyes landed on someone she was familiar with.
When Adalyn came out of the dressing room she was shocked to see a woman sitting on a man's legs, kissing each other deeply.
"Not again," she realized that Yasmin's husband had arrived too.
Yasmin didn't even care about the outfit Adalyn tried on and left with her husband, bidding Adalyn Good night. Yasmin couldn't miss this chance.
Adalyn sighed, looking at the time. It was a few minutes past nine. "I should head home. Those bitches ditched me for their man," she sneered and packed her bags to pay.
Fortunately for her, their husbands came and paid for everything her friends bought so she was going to pay for herself only.
Adalyn believed that Logan wasn't going to find her location. Well, not until she reached the cashier's office to make payments.
He was standing somewhere around the area, staring at her until she noticed that he was there. 'Gosh, he found me.'
Adalyn knew she couldn't escape him so she just turned to the cashier and dropped everything she picked so it would be recorded and calculated.
To her surprise, Logan didn't come to her as she expected. When she looked in the direction she last saw him, he was no longer there so she began to look around but Logan was nowhere to be found.
"That's new," she muttered to herself. 'Could I have been hallucinating?'
She paid and walked out of the mall with her hands full of bags. She was thinking about what she saw earlier about her friends and their husbands. They both had sweet and fulfilling marriages but hers was completely different and it made her dull.
The next moment, someone began to take her bags from her and when she looked, it was Logan. She wasn't hallucinating after all but where did he disappear to earlier? He poured everything in the backseat and when he was done, he opened the door for her to enter his car.
Adalyn obediently entered the car and put on the seatbelt. 'Everything about my life is so different.' She began to fill her head with thoughts as she looked through the window of the car.
Soon, the car began to move. She didn't expect Logan to be so quiet. He wasn't even trying to discomfort her with his attempt to touch her or even do anything to piss her off.
Logan on the other hand had things on his mind too. He was worried and was also in a hurry to drop Adalyn at home before doing what he needed to do.
In thirty minutes, Logan drove into the street, looking in a particular direction as he proceeded forward.
Little did he know that Adalyn noticed that he was acting weird. Although she didn't see clearly, she saw a dim light coming from the woods and it was exactly where Logan's eyes were.
It was as if he couldn't wait to see who that person in the woods was so he immediately dropped her home and led her to the kitchen. "I already made dinner, you should eat."
He was trying so hard to not be obvious but Adalyn wasn't dumb. She knew that Logan was up to something and she wanted to find out.
"Are you going somewhere?" Her voice was soothing and… seductive, just as it sounded the night of their wedding.
Logan finally looked into her eyes after ignoring her for forty minutes. "I'm sorry but I need to get something done…" he still appeared to be in a hurry.
Unfortunately for both Logan and Adalyn, the Adalyn who wanted Logan didn't let him go, "I don't want you to go," she rubbed his ear with her hand softly.
Looking into her hazel eyes as she aroused his senses, Logan felt compelled by her. "Adalyn," he touched her face with his hand, his eyes dropping as if he was falling asleep.
His hands wrapped her waist. He carried her body with no effort and made her sit on the counter behind her in the kitchen.
Adalyn used her hands to entice him by rubbing them around his chest and body.
Logan, unable to hold back his desires, tilted his head to one side and slowly leaned in for a kiss. As Adalyn accepted his kiss, she unbuttoned his shirt.
It was becoming intense with time until they both saw flashlights from the window. Logan came back to his senses.
He carried Adalyn in a very protective way and took her to his room. He didn't know how to explain to her but all he could say was; "I'll be back. Stay here and don't come out. Please Adalyn, don't come out."
After his warning, he walked away but turned back, kissed her deeply in her head and warned her again with his eyes. "I'll be back." With that, he disappeared into thin air.
