Chapter 12 - The hate in her eyes

'Oh my goodness! I didn't expect her to think that way!' a voice in Logan's head uttered.

'She always amazes me, especially when she's in her other form. I still can't believe she's the Adalyn who was scared to talk to me immediately after our marriage. Look at her calling me gay.'

On the outside, Logan was smiling at Adalyn, making her think that she was right. "What do you think?" He asked.

"You are not gay," she instantly answered.

"Why the sudden change of mind?" Logan knew why she changed her mind and also knew that she might not state the reason.

Adalyn recalled vividly how Logan eyed her body last night and a gay wouldn't look at her in such a manner but how was she going to tell that to Logan?

"Are you gay?" With her eyebrows raised, she widened her eyes at him.

"I'm not. I mean there's something I want and it's definitely not from a man but a woman," the way he confidently explained himself irritated her so she sneered.

"Good for you then," Adalyn finished her breakfast but didn't leave immediately. She began to go through her phone as she waited for her food to settle down.

This caused silence between them.

After some time, Adalyn left the house and didn't return until it was late.

It was raining when she entered the street. Adalyn's new friends created a group chat so she went to hang out with them at the hair salon. She didn't know it was late until it started raining.

She had grabbed an umbrella from the superstore so she was able to avoid getting drenched by the rain. However, she never knew that Logan had been worried sick about her.

Adalyn opened the gate to her home. The word home made her realize how lucky she was to have escaped the life she had in California. Starting again in a new state, where no one knew of her past was one of the best things that happened to her and she was loving it so far.

Just when she was about to walk into the building, she saw a figure standing in the rain, staring at her. It was at that moment the lightning from the sky made that spooky sound and light, making the scene horrifying. Who was that?!

Adalyn's subconscious action was to scream at first. She was terrified by what she had just laid her eyes on. His eyes were sharp and blue, staring directly into hers as if he could see down to her soul.

The more she thought about it, the more scared she was. Trembling, she turned her phone on so she could use the torchlight but then she felt something in front of her and had to raise the torch to her front.

The creature she saw earlier was now in front of her, causing her breath to increase rapidly while her heart pounded louder than before. Adalyn was frightened–she couldn't move. She dropped everything in her hands including the umbrella and surrendered to whatever was in front of her.

She blanked out but her eyes were wide open even as the rain drenched her.

His cold hand touched her face. "Adalyn?" Logan didn't know she was terrified by his appearance and had blanked out so she wasn't listening.

Momentarily due to the rain, Logan brought Adalyn, who was in his arms, into the living room, wetting the floor with the water dripping from their bodies. Adalyn hadn't recovered yet.

"Adalyn," Logan was even more worried. He assumed that she might have been poisoned by his enemies. But if she had been poisoned, how could they have possibly found him or discovered that he had a wife?

Logan for a moment didn't know what to do. His mind was messed up. He couldn't lose his wife too. He brought Adalyn to lay on the couch and tapped her cheeks gently. "It's me, Logan. Adalyn, wake up…" his voice became softer and toneless.

'What am I going to do?' Logan asked that voice in his head. 'Do you…' he began to pace back and forth in front of Adalyn. 'She isn't responding. They found her and…' his pulse increased, causing his body to react by shaking. 'We…she hasn't given me a child yet and…'

'Let's say you can save her, what will you do?' that voice asked.

'I have called her na…' Logan paused and suddenly ran to the kitchen. His racing heart increased more but not in fear but in hope, in hope that the idea he got would work.

Adalyn screamed at the top of her lungs when she returned to herself.

Logan, in relief, set the glass of water aside after seeing that Adalyn responded to the water he splashed on her face. 'Oh my, she wasn't poisoned,' he was relieved, letting out a deep breath.

"Adalyn," Logan sat next to her on the couch. "You made me worried sick. Where have you been?"

Although she hadn't recovered from the shock earlier, she looked at him with confusion as if she didn't know who he was. He was wearing a coat and the figure earlier was also wearing black coat. His eyes were blue and…Adalyn remembered that the creature had blue eyes.

When she discovered that he almost drove her mad by playing a prank on her, she hit him hard on his chest. "Were you trying to kill back there?!" She yelled, forgetting that she had just used all her voice to scream.

Her hands were still shaking so she grabbed him by the collar and dragged him close to her. "Was it fun to see me scared?"

"I didn't scare you. You left in the morning and I had to go out and search for you. Do you know how scared I was that you weren't back? You…were gone for hours, Adalyn."

"That's none of your business. Never…don't you ever scare me that way!" She pushed him off with a glare.

'She's upset with me,' Logan watched her leave for her room. 'I guess I was being annoying. She was fine all along.'

Even though he didn't want to admit it to himself, the voice in Logan's head knew how much he disliked the way Adalyn looked at him just now. It was as if she hated him and that was the last thing he ever wanted.
