Waking up from the makeshift bed i made, i wandered inside the bathroom of the gas station to piss. After that i turned on the sink yet no water came out. I just wiped my hands with some towels inside. I walked over to the teenage girl and shook her.
"Hey, wake up", i said, her eyes slowly opened up and she answered to me.
"5 more minutes", i continued to shake her.
"Come on, wake up. Or we'll leave you behind."
She got up as fast as the speed of light when i mentioned leaving her.
"Lets get going" I said, walking to the exit. She nods and follows behind my trail.
I get in the driver's seat of the humvee and she gets in the passenger seat. We start driving, the house only some miles away. She notices the roads have transformed from city building to trees and nature.
"Wow, nature is beautiful" she said.
"I know right?" I answered.
After some time i could see the house.
"We have arrived!" I say, with a joyful tone. I could see a small spark of hope rush through her eyes as she locks onto the house with her eyes. I park near the entrance and get off the humvee. The teenage girl does as well.
"So i haven't asked but what's your name?" I ask.
"I-Im Amy, nice to meet you".
I smile at her introduction but i quickly get more serious. It's about time that we opened the door. I wanted to see if anybody was here. I walked over to the welcome pad under the door and lifted it. That's where we hid the key. It was still intact and i used it to unlock and open the door.
As i opened the door i didn't find anyone inside the house so i told her to come in. As we settled in the house i found a strange stair that led to the attic. I didn't know we actually had one here.
As i ascend to the strange attic i find several files and documents about the outbreak.
"Test subject 517? Who is that?" I wonder.
It was in a file talking about the start of the virus.
"Testing started with the injection of the virus in the main artery of test subject 517. 1st hour, no major changes. 2nd hour, nose started to fall off, loss of colour in the retinas of the eyes. 3rd–9th hours had nothing interesting. 10th hour, eyes had turned to shriveled up mess, subject is able to communicate and told us that he can't see. 12th hour, hair started to fall off, nails started to grow. 15th hour, nails fell off, mental state critical. 18th hour, subject lost the ability to communicate. 20th hour, subject managed to escape the facility. Report to doctor Pillard."
"Fuck, who was this fucking sick to do this?" I question, throwing the file away.
As i keep digging through the files i get surprised by a yell coming from the kitchen.
"Amy! Are you ok?"
I rush downstairs, going to the kitchen. As i reach it i see her, violently coughing blood.
"Shit, you alright?" I ask.
"N-No, i-i feel weird".
I pick her up and place her on the couch, covering her with a blanket. I rush over to the attic to find if it's related to the virus. I find another file:
"Part-22, SCEC project Valhala. Virus-7651. Symptoms: Coughing blood, migraines, dizziness, red eyes, paranoia, hallucinations. If you are infected with the virus, there's only a 2% chance for survival. Ways you could get it are from hanging around dirty places or making contact with Virus-1. Try to avoid going to dirty places and always wear a mask. Once you start coughing up blood you will die within 12 hours, if your body doesn't respond to it. In case of infection with V7651, ask medical center for help."
My eyes shake in horror. No way, she doesn't have that virus. She is fine...
"GO AWAY!" She yells, probably seeing a hallucination...
I go down and walk to her.
"T-Tell me, how do you feel?"
"I-Im dizzy, my throat hurts and there's a guy in the corner of the room."
I think to myself: "Fuck, no way she will die like this."
I run to the attic again and find a file about V7651 and its cure, finally finding one that meets the requirements.
"V7651 is a really bad virus. If you are infected with it you will have to start taking small doses of antibiotics, if you digest many then you will have a fatal seizure."
I rush to the medical cabinet and find some antibiotics. I go to her and give her a small amount. After some hours she felt better and for today we could sleep in peace with hopes of salvation.
