Chapter 19 - CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Tashia is going home to rest and take her turn watching Ashley. Martin hasn't shown up at the hospital since the argument with Sharlene. She could only shake her head.

She went to her room and decided to rest for a while; besides, she has class tomorrow.

Ashley, please get well; Sister Sharlene needs you now. Tashia whispered a prayer to herself. She lay down on her bed, not realizing that she had fallen into a deep sleep.

Tashia noticed that a liquid was dripping on her cheek; she woke up and rubbed her eyes, stared, and looked at what liquid was on her cheek now. She was still on her bed, lying down.

Someone was looking at her, so she turned to see where the tears were coming from, but she didn't see anyone in the room. Tashia just sighed.

She felt again that someone was looking at her. There, she saw a young girl with her back turned to her, wearing a hospital gown, and she swallowed hard.

She let out a sigh.

"Ashley?" Tashia called out to the child.

Tashia turned around, but she still couldn't see the child's face. She slipped through her closed door. Tashia just swallowed, got up from her bed, and quickly opened the door.

The child she saw was still there, sitting on the couch, staring at something inside their house.

"Ashley, do you need something from Aunt Tashia?" Even though she was scared, Ashley still talked to Tashia.

She turned to her. "Aunt Tashia," Ashley called her.

Call her; she is crying and sobbing now.

"Ashley, is there a problem?" she asked the child. Tashia is here now, close to Ashley, so she can't help but feel pity for her situation right now.

"Grandma," she reported to her.

"Why?" she asked back then. "Don't go with Grandma Felicia yet, please; your mom needs you right now." Tashia is begging on behalf of Sharlene.

"She will take me with her." Ashley reported this to Tashia.

Tashia shook her head and stopped the child from following a departed soul.

Has Grandma really passed away? Tashia couldn't help but wonder in her mind whenever she recalled the sight of her when she was imprisoned in a cell that was difficult to escape from.

"Help, I don't want to go there, Aunt Tashia. They're saying I should help Grandma Felicia so we can bring Mom to them."

Tashia furrowed her brow and looked at the child upon hearing it; she didn't immediately understand what the child wanted to convey to her.

"I—I'm confused, Ashley." Tashia just shook her head, still processing it in her mind until now.

"Mom, Mom, they want to help them." Ashley ended up saying.

Ashley. She called the child's name gently.

Her grandmother Felicia showed up back then.

"Come with me, Ashley." That's all she said to the child. Tashia saw the fear in her eyes; she weakly shook her head and tried to avoid her grandmother.

Tashia stopped her grandmother from approaching the child.

"Grandma, what happened to you? I am the one begging now; please don't do this to your grandchild." She pleaded with her grandmother.

"Please ask Sharlene to hurry."

After saying that, it disappeared from her sight, and Ashley just looked at her, shaking her head, telling her not to believe what it said.

"Aunt Tashia, please take care of Mom, okay?" Tashia even saw Ashley smile at her before she disappeared.

"Ashley!" She suddenly sat up from the bed.

Was all of that a dream? She asked herself. She noticed that her phone had been vibrating for a while; she checked it and saw many missed calls from her sister Vivianne.

Tashia's heart raced then, as if she was losing her courage, wondering what news it would bring her. Again, her phone vibrated.

That's why she quickly answered.

"Sis Vivianne, did you call?" she asked.

"Tashia, it's Ashley," she heard her swallow.

"W—What happened to Ashley?" Tashia asked her sister Vivianne.

Vivianne took a deep breath, seeming to struggle to answer her question; her hand suddenly trembled; she wasn't ready for what she was about to hear.

"Sister!" she called out.

"The doctor said it's no longer normal that Ashley doesn't wake up." Her voice was still trembling.

"W—Why?" he asked her.

"She's in a coma."

Tashia couldn't speak when she heard that.

"Comatose?" she asked, wondering if she was hearing correctly.

"Yes, she's in a coma, and if her body doesn't fight back due to the blood clot she sustained, there's a possibility that Ashley might not make it." Vivianne explained, knowing that she was holding back her emotions for her sister right now.

"D—Does Sis Sharlene know about this?" Tashia could only ask that question.

She couldn't stand then; her knees weakened upon hearing the news.

"Sharlene is here now, inside, staring at Ashley."

"What did the doctor say? Is there a possibility that the blood clot the child sustained will go away?" she asked.

"They need to perform surgery, even though the child is comatose, but it will also involve risks. That's why the doctor is giving her a choice now." Explain her sister to her.

"Another option besides surgery, sis."

Tashia wants to find even the slightest glimmer of hope.

Vivianne sighed before answering her. "The other option is to observe Ashley. There is a dissolving medicine to remove the blood clot, but if it doesn't work, surgery will be necessary," Vivianne also told her.

"How many weeks is this observatory?" Tashia asked.

"If the child can tolerate the injected medicine, it should take one to two weeks."

She was nodding—she was nodding back then.

"What was Sister Sharlene's decision?" asked Tashia to Vivianne.

"You know she doesn't want the first option of having the child undergo surgery; she prayed that there would be improvement in two weeks, even though the child is in a comatose state." This is what Vivianne said to her.

She felt a sense of relief when Sharlene decided against having the child undergo surgery; she was confident that Ashley would recover.

"T—Thank you, Sis Vivianne. Please support Sis Sharlene there; she needs us now." Tashia expressed her gratitude and concern.

"You don't need to remind me of that, Tashia." Vivianne just sighed at what she was saying.

I won't allow you to leave, Ashley; Aunt Tashia won't allow you to leave us here. We will fight, niece. We will fight. That's all she said to herself.

"Just accompany Sister Sharlene there for now." Tashia simply said.

"Take a rest for now; tomorrow, you have your study." Vivianne reminded her to study for tomorrow.

She just nodded back then; he needed to say what he sees now. Tashia just closed his eyes and sighed.
