Upon hearing Ye Wen's words, the Asura God's expression darkened.
Ye Wen's intentions were as clear as day to him—even a child could figure it out.
Wasn't he just trying to place someone from his own faction into the position of Asura God, in order to gain more influence in the god realm? This kind of tactic was all too familiar to the Asura God.
Some future God King whose entire family ascended to godhood also claimed to be well-versed in this strategy.
Moreover, the Asura God had his own plans. Why else would he have arranged Tang San to become his successor from scratch if not to conveniently leave backdoors for his future schemes?
"No need, Sea God. My divine inheritance has its own rules.
Only those who pass through the City of Slaughter and obtain the God of Slaughter domain are qualified to inherit my godhood.
Unfortunately, the person with the God of Slaughter domain in this era isn't on this side," the Asura God said coldly.
Ye Wen inwardly cursed. So now you're playing by the rules, huh! Don't think I don't know what you've done in the future—you're such a principled god!
But Ye Wen still tried to push one last time.
"Are you sure you won't reconsider, God King?
One of your other two divine successors is now crippled, his strength having fallen to the Soul Douluo level, and the other is under 20 years old, stuck at level 60. It'll be a long time before they can inherit your godhood.
If you choose the person I recommend, within a year, you'll be comfortably free from the god realm."
The Asura God remained expressionless. "No need. For a suitable successor to inherit my godhood, I can afford to wait."
Seeing that the Asura God was unyielding, Ye Wen could only reluctantly give up.
However, Ye Wen wasn't entirely willing to let go without getting something in return.
"In that case, God King, please return. As for your divine inheritance weapon, I'll hand it over to your successor."
The Asura God glanced at Ye Wen, knowing full well that this little guy still harbored ulterior motives. He had sensed Ye Wen using divine consciousness to probe the structure of the Asura Demon Sword earlier.
"No need, just don't get in my way."
The fluctuations caused by clashes between god-level beings were simply too great. That's why the Asura God hadn't immediately retrieved the Asura Demon Sword earlier—if other God Kings noticed, even the Asura God would face consequences.
With that, the Asura God controlled the Asura Demon Sword and sent it flying far away.
As the Asura God's projection began to dissipate, he subtly glanced at Qian Qian but made no move. However, this glance made both Ye Wen and Qian Qian realize that the Asura God hadn't forgotten past grievances.
Watching the treasure that had been within reach now slipping away, Ye Wen clicked his tongue in disappointment.
Though it was regrettable, he had already memorized the soul-guided array patterns on the Asura Demon Sword. He could slowly deduce their secrets later.
After enduring a fierce battle and being startled by the Asura God, Qian Qian felt drained and collapsed weakly onto the ground.
Seeing her slightly pale face, Ye Wen gently ruffled her hair and spoke softly,
"Rest well. Leave the rest to Master."
Qian Qian shyly nodded, then was absorbed into Ye Wen's Spirit Soul Space.
Next—
Ye Wen cast a glance at Tang Chen, who was now completely dead.
"Unable to ascend to godhood, destined to remain an ant.
But you gods are truly arrogant. If not for being born in the wrong era, Tang Chen might not have been inferior to you, Asura God."
Sensing that the gaze of the god realm had disappeared, Ye Wen formed a hand seal.
A pale blue light enveloped an area a hundred meters wide, and wisps of energy began to gather in Ye Wen's hands.
In his previous life, it was said—
"When a person dies, they become a ghost; when a ghost dies, they become a specter; when a specter fades, it becomes ether; and when ether dissipates, it turns to nothingness."
This illustrated how a soul continuously decomposes and dissipates after death.
According to Ye Wen's research, when these dissipated soul energies reassemble, they form what he called Primal Light.
In other words, a completely new soul.
Tang Chen had just died, and his soul was beginning to gradually disperse, though very slowly since he was a quasi-god-level powerhouse.
How could Ye Wen possibly waste the soul of such a peerless genius?
Looking at the soul energy gathering in his hands, Ye Wen's lips curled into a faint smile.
"If others can do it, so can I. It's not only you who can achieve a second round of life, Asura God."
For the sake of the future, Ye Wen didn't want to miss out on any potential peak powerhouses. Earlier, because the Asura God was present, Ye Wen had refrained from acting to avoid exposing his intentions. Now that the Asura God had left, he could fully unleash his abilities.
Of course, Ye Wen wouldn't directly use this soul.
Setting aside Tang Chen's identity as a former rival in love, the faction he represented was inherently opposed to Ye Wen.
Moreover, based on Ye Wen's research into Primal Light, seemingly identical Primal Light could produce vastly different results depending on the vitality contained within. Memory played little role in this process.
Take Tang San as a living example.
While Tang San's learning ability was strong, his capacity for innovation was abysmal, like muddy water.
Compared to the true genius Tang Chen, they weren't even on the same level. At the very least, Tang Chen had independently created two divine techniques: Self-Detonating Rings and the Great Sumeru Hammer.
Perhaps the Asura God realized he couldn't control Tang Chen and thus tacitly accepted his failure. If that was the case, it was truly tragic—Tang Chen was an unlucky man indeed.
Perhaps his rapid rise in strength during the first half of his life had exhausted all his luck.
Look at the Sea God—didn't Tang San receive help when the Deep Sea Demon Whale King tried to possess him?
Although Ye Wen hadn't yet begun studying the Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King, he knew that this little critter was at most on the level of an ordinary ferocious beast.
Even at its peak, it might barely reach level 98.
But what level was Tang Chen at? Before undergoing the divine trial, he had already reached level 99.
Thinking about it, the fact that Tang Chen's divine trial only granted him eight black and one red spirit ring configuration was laughable. Pfft, and this guy calls himself a God King? What a joke.
Slowly extracting and erasing Tang Chen's soul memories, Ye Wen began to consider who should serve as Tang Chen's reincarnation vessel.
The direction was clear—it had to be someone with a Weapon-type martial soul.
After all, Ye Wen hadn't fully unraveled the mysteries of Primal Light yet, and compatibility issues might still exist.
The top three Weapon-type martial souls of this era were the Hao Tian Hammer, the Seven Kill Sword, and the Soul BreakingSpear.
The Hao Tian was out of the question—the sect was already doomed.
The Seven Kill Sword now only had Chen Xin as its sole heir, and since he preferred to remain single, Ye Wen decided not to meddle with his life.
"The Soul Breaking Spear, then?"
The current Yang Family of the Breaking Clan had long surpassed its former glory. Its clan leader, Yang Wudi, had already broken through to become a level 92 Title Douluo.
If natural cultivation couldn't break through, then cheats would suffice. After all, who was backing the Breaking Clan now?
Thanks to Ye Wen's resource allocation, the Breaking Clan had grown exponentially stronger.
Though Yang Wudi was only at level 92, with the added bonuses of his martial soul's innate talent and his five-word divine armor, his strength could rival that of a Tier 3 god at level 115.
Terrifying, indeed—
