Tang Chen collapsed to the ground, his eyes filled with confusion. In an instant, what should have been an evenly matched battle had turned into a one-sided rout.
Looking at the pitiful state of Tang Chen, Qian Qian's eyes held no trace of pity.
Raising her Angelic Holy Sword high, she prepared to deliver the final blow and end Tang Chen's life of sin.
However, Ye Wen stopped her.
"Hold on for now, Qian Qian. I'd like to have a final chat with this elder."
"Yes."
Qian Qian halted her attack, which had been charged with divine power. The domain she had maintained also shattered in that moment, returning the three of them to reality.
Gazing at the familiar sky, Tang Chen regained his senses.
After being parasitized by the Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King for so many years, Tang Chen realized he no longer feared or rejected death.
Turning his head toward Ye Wen, he smiled faintly.
"Youngster, making this girl stop her killing blow—don't tell me you want to humiliate me before the end?"
Ye Wen shook his head slightly and stepped forward.
"I'm not that petty.
I just wanted to ask—was pursuing godhood really worth it?
With your strength, you could have lived another thousand years in style. With your combat prowess, you might even have transformed the Hao Tian Sect into the Hao Tian Empire.
So, Elder Tang Chen, do you regret it?"
Tang Chen, lying on the ground, stared blankly, as if reflecting on his entire life.
"Whether it was worth it or not, I can't say for sure. But pursuing strength throughout my life wasn't wrong.
Kill me, youngster. My life holds no regrets."
With that, Tang Chen closed his eyes.
Letting go of everything made him feel unusually at ease, though the figure of a woman still lingered in his mind.
"Bo Saixi, forgive me—I've broken our promise."
Ye Wen recorded Tang Chen's words using a soul-guided device; they might prove useful later. Then, turning to Qian Qian, he said,
"Go ahead."
Without hesitation, Qian Qian thrust her sword into Tang Chen's forehead.
And so, the legendary figure met his end.
Far away in the god realm, the Asura God watched this scene with simmering anger.
"Sea God Ye Wen, I'll remember you."
But soon, the Asura God fell into deep thought. The closed-off domain Qian Qian had used left a profound impression on him.
"Truly a prodigy of unparalleled talent—it's no wonder Poseidon took an interest in you. However…
Since you showed it to me, don't blame me for taking it for myself."
Even newly ascended gods, no matter how much they trained, generally had an upper limit of Tier 2 god-level combat power.
Thus, the Asura God wasn't worried that his chosen successor would be unable to match Ye Wen when the time came.
After all, gods were divided into tiers, and the Asura God was extremely confident in his own standing. In terms of combat, he believed himself to be among the top three in the god realm.
The Sea God? The Angel God? They were nothing more than clowns in his eyes.
As the Asura God pondered how to strengthen Tang San, an action by Qian Qian caused him to lose his composure.
Qian Qian picked up the Asura Demon Sword from the ground and handed it to Ye Wen.
"Master."
Ye Wen accepted it, admiring the Asura Demon Sword with great interest.
This weapon, clearly belonging to a God King, was labeled a "demon sword," further proof that the Asura God wasn't exactly a benevolent figure.
To Ye Wen, this massive sword was more of an exquisite work of art than a mere weapon. Its crimson body was adorned with intricate golden and black patterns, exuding both mystery and grandeur.
Using his divine consciousness, Ye Wen carefully examined the Asura Demon Sword.
Compared to his own Super Divine Artifact, the Sea God Trident, the Asura Demon Sword, while outwardly imposing, fell short in quality.
Upon reflection, this made sense—the Asura Demon Sword wasn't the original version wielded by the Asura God King but rather a replica crafted by Tang Chen.
Still, this replica was based on the original provided by the Asura God—it simply hadn't been nurtured enough.
In terms of quality, it was comparable to the six-word divine armor currently worn by Qian Qian.
Ye Wen's disdain for the Asura God grew. Even as a God King, how could he be so stingy?
Not only did the eighth trial's inheritor receive a mediocre eight-black-one-red spirit ring configuration, but even the divine inheritance weapon lacked sufficient divine power to enhance its quality.
Tsk—what garbage!
Tang Chen had once thought finding a god position would bring him boundless joy, only to discover it was an epic trap. If Tang San had attempted it himself, he likely wouldn't have succeeded either.
In Ye Wen's analysis, the Asura Demon Sword wasn't merely a divine artifact forged by Tang Chen's hammering—it was covered in densely packed soul-guided arrays.
To someone like Ye Wen, who studied such things, it was akin to a peerless beauty. He even felt that the soul-guided array patterns on the Asura Demon Sword advanced his research on the seven-word divine armor.
Just as Ye Wen was about to store the Asura Demon Sword for further study, a surge of immense divine power erupted from it, pushing him back several meters.
Qian Qian, who had been recovering nearby, instantly entered combat mode, standing alongside Ye Wen as they warily eyed the Asura Demon Sword.
At the same time, a column of divine power descended from the heavens.
Its terrifying might instantly shattered the Six Directions Seal Absolute, which could isolate even peak quasi-gods.
The heavenly divine power connected with the Asura Demon Sword.
The sword hovered in midair, and a majestic, awe-inspiring divine image appeared above it.
Seeing this, Ye Wen narrowed his eyes slightly.
"What do you intend to do, God King?"
The Asura God's projection opened its eyes and stared directly at Ye Wen.
"You know quite a bit, new Sea God.
But isn't it excessive for you to try and seize my divine inheritance weapon?"
Ye Wen, well-versed in the rules of the god realm, spoke without fear.
"The god realm's laws prohibit gods from interfering in the affairs of Douluo Star. As the God of Justice, surely the Asura God King doesn't intend to break the law, does he?"
The Asura God knew this well—his earlier words were merely an attempt to bluff his way through.
Sensing the attention of the god realm focusing on his temple, the Asura God's expression darkened, and he dared not make any rash moves.
"The rules of the god realm don't need to be taught by a junior like you. And besides, I haven't laid a hand on anything.
This Asura Demon Sword is tied to my divine inheritance. When you tried to claim it for yourself, I couldn't just stand by. I'm here to retrieve it and pass it on to the next inheritor.
Do you have a problem with me taking back my Asura Demon Sword, Sea God?"
Ye Wen paid no heed to the Asura God exploiting loopholes in the god realm's rules.
But if the Asura God wanted to find a successor, Ye Wen wasn't about to let him off easily.
Ye Wen chuckled lightly. "So that's how it is—I misunderstood you, God King.
Since you're intent on passing on your divine position, may I recommend a prodigy to you?
He's under 40 years old and has already reached level 94 Title Douluo. His talent surpasses even your previous inheritor—he'll surely meet your expectations."
