Chapter 9 - Magnificent Heater

Fabro woke up feeling pretty good about himself, he has done a good deed, how kind he was. He took a long bath before going to the kitchen. The restaurant was about to open so he had to prepare.

He really enjoyed this, this simple life. He heard stories about how the awakened are fighting political battles to gain more influence inland but he thinks that was stupid. He doesn't see the point of it all, he would rather spend his days cooking mortal meals for mortal workers than deal with that rubbish.

As great as he is, the best there is, he acknowledged that he would be terrible at schemes, frankly he thought he wasn't that good at reading people unlike Yamiko. That girl would've made a great politician.

He went to open the restaurant, he felt it, the laws of the world were changing. Winter is coming, he whispered. He opened the door and went back inside. Yamino was already behind the bar counter.

I feel like the world is changing, she said. Yeah winter is coming, he said. Winter?, I wonder what it like. Cold, so I was told and filled with death, it is not a good time. Awakened shouldn't have a problem with a bit of cold no?

I doubt it just a bit of cold, but we'll see. They continued with their business. Yamiko came out still looking sleepy, is it getting colder?. It wasn't long before customers came in. They didn't look too well, not exactly sick but drained of energy.

He had to make a lot of soup and tea that day. The miners were better though, working at the fire crystal mines means that didn't have to fear the cold. The farmers on the other hand were a bit pitiful, their crops were slowly dying, fortunately for them for the past few months the crops had been growing rapidly as if they were in a rush.

They had to harvest fast before the crops die completely. Everybody was in a bad mood. Even those who had not experienced the last winter themselves heard tales of how miserable it was. The elders who were alive at that time seemed resigned as if they had already accepted death.

This saddened Fabro a little. The day ended, he closed the restaurant and went to his smith room. He wanted to do something for the towns people because he was certain the town lord would not.

He could easily create something like a heater but unfortunately a mortal heater would need fire wood and that would be inefficient. He could install earth grade or even sky grade appliances as long as they don't reach heaven grade the rules on selling them is not as stringent as weapons.

Crafters were allowed to sell things like stoves, mana lamps and the like as long as they don't reach heaven grade, mortal medicine was a go as well. However they would still need a licence for it.

He did have mortal grade alchemist licence under his chef licence but he was officially not a smith, especially not one who can create mana based appliances. He would need to call in a favour for this.

Haa the troubles of being kind and generous handsome man are too much, he sighed. He started drawing the blue prints for what he called the town magnificent heater. I really need to stop calling everything I make magnificent, all them are so I need not say it all the time, he thought with a smile.

The heater looked like a pillar with metal pipes coming out on top and a column of slits going down on it sides with a single part of it slightly bigger than a man without any slits. He already had all the materials for something of this level. He started by heating the furnace.

He melted the mortal grade metal he was going to use. Turned the metal into bars of metal. He took his inscription pen. He couldn't use mana but he had something better,qi, it basically made for crafting and rune inscriptions.

It was strange, due to qi flowing in his body, he could not use mana but runes drawn with Qi are better mana conductors than runes drawn with mana. It was also much better at tempering and extracting impurities from the material.

After he was done inscribing the fire runes on the bars, he started working on a thin long tube, on it interior interlocking wind runes were drawn. They were simple runes that mere produce air. One side of the tube was closed the other open with four even thinner tubes facing in four different directions.

On the closed side of the tube he inserted four fan like blades with runes at their base where the blades are connected. Then he started working on the outer shell of the heater, it was a large black pillar, thin slits filled it body, thin compared to it size but they still as wide an an adults arm and over a metre long.

It took him longer to work on this one, it was large so he had to make in into seperate pieces them join those pieces together. A few hours later he was done. It was now time to put everything together into a whole working system.

Although it was an earth grade artefact, he had never worked on something like this so he wasn't sure it would work the way he want it to. He was standing outside, well he was still within the spacial dimension which was still inside the restaurant.

The twins were sipping tea looking at him work, his muscles contracting as he hammered metal. Enjoying the view?, he asked. Greatly, replied Yamiko while sipping her tea. He placed the outer shell pillar upright.

Picked up the wind tube and flew up with it, although it was thin compared to the whole structure but it was around 2 metres thick. He flew into the 20 metre wife outer shell. It was open on top but closed at the bottom.
