Earth 2025
When you get done taking out that order sweep the rain off the sidewalk Jeremiah." Called out my boss from the comfort of inside the store.
"Damn why does she hate me so much!" Mutters under my breath as I carry out the customer's order.
"Hello there, I got an order for Andrew." Yells over the storm.
"Yeah, just put in," gets cut off over the sounds of thunder. "Put it in the trunk."
"Alright sir." Hurriedly loads the order into the vehicle. "You're all set sir. Have a good day."
I Walked back to the building only to see my boss standing there with a broom. "Here you go." She hands me the broom. "I want all this water gone by the time I come back from my lunch."
"But it's raining, and won't stop until next tonight." I pleaded with her.
"And I don't care. Now get it done." She walks away laughing.
Watches the door close behind her "Yeah fuck you too." Tries to open only to realize it's locked. "Damn it! I guess I'm stuck out here." Sighs. Begins to sweep the sidewalk.
"Stupid boss. Got me out here sweeping the fucking rain. Make no goddamn sense." Lightning strikes roughly 50 feet away.
"I'd rather get struck by lightning than continue to do this shit." Throws down the broom.
"I can make it possible." A deep voice with the sound of thunder rumbles all around me.
"Who's there?" Looks all around for the location of the voice. "Naw. I'm not dealing with the shit." Begins banging on the door. "Hey, someone let me in."
The voice appears again. "By the power of lightning and thunder. You shall gain the power of the storm. May your life be full of challenges, but may you prevail."
Lightning strikes Jeremiah and he falls to the ground.
Internal thoughts, "Is this how I die? Struck by lightning because I was trapped outside. Unable to save myself. I'm going to die without accomplishing anything. Most importantly a virgin."
"Why? Why me?" Calls out weakly to the mysterious voice, but hears no response.
"It's fine I guess. I will always wonder in the afterlife why me."
Here's the door, and feet coming towards me. "Hey, I need help!" An angelic voice yells out.
"What a beautiful voice. Too bad I won't be alive long enough to hear more of it." Thinking to myself. "I'm glad I got to hear such a beautiful thing before I died."
Jeremiah slowly closed his eyes.
