Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE: SABOTAGED.

🥀 ABELIA'S POV 🥀

The entire organization betrayed me, the clan, and my stupid younger brother. The death of my father became my worst trauma, something I had never expected, an evil thought I had never imagined. My father was called to glory, and I was automatically called to hell on earth.

I choked on my saliva, coughing out blood, I gasped for air — breath, a fleeting lover, teasing me with absence.

Every forceful inhale feels like a battle with my body, strength, and forgiveness, my body wrestling with itself.

Whoever did this, I vow to kill. Twisting my neck, I roll my eyes to view my surroundings. Unprepared, I got brutally spanked with the Actualization that, like an animal, like a lifeless, sectioned animal, I was disposed of at a commercial dumpster to decay.

The last thing I remember was being kidnapped by my younger brother Cain, a bitter truth I am still reluctant to accept. I thought he loved me enough as a brother, but it turns out I was as worthless to him as an overused rag that lost its value.

I loved him so much that I could cough out my kidney for him.

The only option I had was to save myself from this tragedy that was clinging onto me so desperately, so I immediately attempted to drag myself up, but I got denied a visa to stand, by my legs.

I was frustrated, both legs felt missing and dead. I couldn't feel them, fueled by the unbearable suffering that comes with an attempt to move my legs, I gave up the struggle.

Regardless, I was desperate to live, It takes a woman to be alive for revenge. I began crawling on two to safety. My elbows on the cold stony floor, dragging my heavy self as blood from my tormented elbows trail my every move, followed by the overwhelming weight of my mistakes, with my body shaken with convulsive sobs, releasing years of pent-up emotions and a day of regret, I, Abelia should have killed him first, but who would have known?

"Help!" I struggle to murmur as I drag myself into the street, begging for attention, I needed help, I needed an intervention, I needed a helper, a savior. But my frustrated body couldn't hold on any longer. Breathing heavily, I lost sight of colors as everything went blank.

***🥀***

When my eyes flew open, my elbows had been bandaged, and I discovered I was no longer on the street.

Anxious, I promptly looked around, and by the structure of the room and the things in it, I could swear I was in a hospital.

Suddenly, my eyes caught a glimpse of a ruggedly handsome young man, with perfectly gifted facial features, who sat beside my bed, ogling at me with interest, balling in his eyes.

"Hi, I'm Neil Nemo. Nice to see you are alive," Nemo blurted out, smiling.

I couldn't help but notice how impossibly handsome he was, even though he had been with me in the hospital since we got here.

"You are Abelia Kingston, right? I saw your name written on your ID card in your back pocket when I was changing you into what you are currently putting on," Nemo's voice rang out again with a giggle.

"You what?" I barked, "What were the female nurses doing?"

Nemo looked at me with a satisfied face, "Weird way to say thank you."

"I can't feel my legs!" I hastily noticed, bowing sadly to touch my legs.

"The doctor will be here soon, Abelia. For the main time, please try not to move," Nemo advises calmly.

"How did I get here?" I asked, sending a questioning glance at Nemo.

"I found you unconscious on the street and immediately brought you here. Am I allowed to ask what happened to you? You must have been through a lot to go off for a whole seven days," He replied with a question.

I've been out for seven days?

"No…it's none of your business," I coldly responded, avoiding the discussion.

"Okay," Nemo calmly retorted, raising his both hands in surrender.

Soon, a female doctor walked in with a smile, the news that I was awake had reached her ears, but I wasn't finding it funny.

"Miss Abelia, I'm so happy you are awake. I came as soon as I heard the news," She stated with a smile.

"I'm Mercy Kings, the doctor in charge of taking care of you," She announced, and I simply gawked at her without responding.

"I need to speak to your guardian," Mercy demanded, staring blankly at me.

"Hmm… you can speak to me," Nemo interrupts, walking closer to Mercy.

"Who are you to her, sir?" Mercy interrogated reluctantly.

"I am the closest person to a family that she has. You can tell me anything," Nemo assured warmly.

"You can say whatever it is that you have to say here," I blurted out, forcing their attention on me.

"I don't think that is a good idea, you might not be able to handle the news," Mercy argued, glancing from me to Nemo.

"Spill it out and spare me that sermon," I retorted in agony, ignoring her facial warnings.

"I need to discuss your test result with you. Unfortunately, you've suffered a spinal cord injury at the T6 level, resulting in partial paralysis, followed by severe internal injuries. We will start rehabilitation immediately to maximize your recovery potential. I can only imagine how scary this must be for you. You are in good hands, and we are here to support you every step of the way. The injuries are very serious, but we're committed to helping you regain as much function as possible. Take things one day at a time, and know that we are here to help," Mercy announced and immediately turned to leave.

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I grasped the gravity of my situation. I was going to be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of my miserable life, longing for a miracle. Chills ran down my broken spine, and the room seemed to darken as the words dripped like acid, burning away my hope and leaving only despair.

The silence that followed was oppressive, a physical weight that pressed upon my chest, heavy with sorrow.

"I need a number or an address. Any of your family members should know of your condition," Nemo demanded, breaking the silence.

"There is no one you can call," I muttered disappointedly, biting my lower lip.

"If you will be in my hands, then I need to know everything… I mean everything," Nemo declared, anxiously eager to hear my story.

"My father was the don of a mafia clan. Before his death, he appointed me as the next don even tho I bluntly refused, but every member of the clan voted me in, including my younger brother. They said I was the best for the role because I was very smart," I began.

"Yeah… I could tell you are very smart," Nemo interrupted and smirked in amusement.

"Cut me off again and you are dead," I scolded, sending him a threatening glance.

"My bad," Nemo retorted, trying to avoid my piercing gaze.

"After the death of my father, everyone turned. My younger brother refused the arrangement, and I wasn't ready to argue with him or anyone else. Before I knew it, I got kidnapped and drugged, and when I woke up, I found myself in a stinking dumpster-" I declared in fury, shock, and disappointment.

"Why do you think your brother did it?" Nemo asked, unsure.

"His face was the last memory I have of my sabotage. He faced me fearlessly and harmed me; he drugged me, beat me up, broke my bones, and left me to die," I retorted.

"So what do you want right now?" Nemo asked pitifully.

"Payback. I want to do thrice what he has done to me; I want to ruin his life, the life of his family, and the entire clan. You hurt me… I hurt you thrice."
