Chapter 18 - Chapter Eighteen: No way!

[Leonard]

I told her to marry me, and waited for her reaction which took a little while to surface. First, I watched in confusion as her face curled up as though she had heard an unpleasant news, wondering what I said wrongly.

"You're joking right?" She asked, after an unusually long time of silence. Her voice was calm and cold, and this made me even more surprised. Every other lady would be thrilled at my proposal, and grab my marriage offer with both hands, but not this lady.

"No, I'm not." I replied grimly. I suddenly remembered that I was not to show desperation.

"Why would I want to marry you?" She asked with a slight increase in her tempo. She was getting upset, and I knew it.

"Because I'm asking you to." I replied with an air of finality. "Your question should be why would I want to marry you?" I added, waiting for an outburst I knew was coming. But she kept her cool.

"Good question. Can I go now?" She asked, gesturing towards the door. I am not great with people's emotions but I knew she was mustering a whole lot of self control right now. She didn't have to, especially if it is about her job. There's no way I will fire the only woman in the world that can make me cum.

"No, for all I know you could be carrying my seed." I said with a smirk, enjoying how her face curled up in disgust. Even though I badly needed to marry her, I was not going to beg her to accept me. Not when I have enough money to make her change her mind.

"About that," She began, rising. "I took care of it." She added and walked out of the office. For reasons I couldn't tell she did not shut the door with a bang like I half expected. She remembers I'm the CEO after all

Hard to crack. I'm going to enjoy every part of this.

[Nicole]

I walked out of his office with so much anger and frustration. Leonard's men were outside the office, in the broad space where my desk was located. While a part of me worried about my job, the other part of me just didn't care

Who the fuck does he think he is?

First he had me drugged, took advantage of my vulnerability and released inside me, and now here he is speaking of marriage. He must think I'm some sort of metal to be bent into whatever shape he wills.

I sat on my chair , and rested my clouded head on my desk. When I couldn't keep the tears from pouring out anymore, I rushed to a corner in the broad office where a sink was installed and washed my face which was now covered in tears.

There's no way in hell I will consent to marrying him. He is a no good arrogant brat. His good looks did not make up for what he lacks in his manners as the others seem lol believe. He is a total jerk.

The next morning, the alarm went off as usual, ushering us into a new day. Like always, I got up to get prepared, after which I woke Clara up so she too could prepare.

While she got into the bathroom, I climbed back into the bed. There was no job to return to at Litt's I was sure. Not after everything that transpired between Leonard and I yesterday.

Rather than be embarrassed, I would remain at home and mourn my lost job.

"Why are you not getting dressed yourself?" Clara asked when she got out of the bathroom and saw me laying down on the bed. I had narrated everything that happened the night before to Clara, and as always she was supportive.

"I don't think I still have a job, following how the conversation between Leonard and I ended yesterday." I replied, feeling a bit sad. If anything, I loved my job and I loved working at Litt's but marrying Litt's arrogant heir is not happening.

"Don't look so sad, you did the right thing rejecting his disrespectful proposal." Clara consoled, and pulled my cheeks gently.

She left a little while later, while I drifted off into a sad sleep.

I browsed through my system to kill the boredom that had now taken hold of me. More than ever, I wished I had my phone and I wished I was at work doing something productive. I imagined myself at work, moving from my desk to Leonard's office.

I was still imagining when a message popped up on the screen of my laptop. It was from Leonard.

Is he mistaken? I asked myself as I clicked on the notification to view the complete message.

"Where the hell are you? And why don't I have the list already?"

Without thinking, I rushed into the bathroom for a quick bath. I was out a few minutes later, and headed for the closet where I hastily got dressed.

It was 10:33 AM when I arrived at the office. Skeptical, I headed to Leonard's office, after stopping by my desk to get the drive where I had copied the transactions from five years ago. For reasons I couldn't tell, I felt guilty, even though it was him in the wrong.

"Good morning sir," I greeted him once I stepped into his office, and he only acknowledged my greeting with a slight nod.

He was sitting behind his desk, typing away on a laptop that didn't look familiar.

Did he get a new one?

"Why are you just reporting to work?" Leonard asked, looking at me. It seemed he was trying to sound aggressive but he had sounded much more polite. Strange!

"I…" I broke off, not sure how to continue but he urged me with a look that was almost gentle.

"I wasn't sure I still had a job here." I explained, and watched with irritation as he began to laugh.

"Well, I didn't relieve you of your job," he said, "Can I have the list now? He added, a little while later, and I handed the drive to him.

I was on my way out of his office when his voice called out to me from behind.

"What percentage of the transactions do you have here?"

"Every last one of them." I replied.

"Oh." He said without interest, and I sneered within me. It had taken me hours to compile the list, and all he could say was "oh".

Jerk!

I stepped out of his office and nearly bumped into a lady who was coming in.

"Nicole!" I heard in a voice too high-pitched to be Clara's, but it was Clara.

What is she doing here?

"I was really hoping to meet you here." She added with a laugh that was far too awkward to be hers.

"He sent an email. Turns out I still have my job." I explained with my voice in a whisper, while I pointed at Leonard's office.

"It's a relief to hear that." She said, "I should head back." She added, after glancing at Leonard's office for a while.

It was strange but there was nothing to make of it.
