Chapter 24 - Chapter 25: Reunion, Ada Wong

"Thank you very much. If something happens to you next time, I'll save you too." Leon patted Aiden on the shoulder, a look on his face as if saying "Come to me if you're in trouble."

"Forget it, I'd rather there not be a next time." Aiden tugged at the corner of his mouth. Leon's words sounded just like the Grim Reaper trying to sell him insurance.

Seeing Aiden's saw-a-ghost expression, Leon was a bit confused, but now wasn't the time to dwell on it. He glanced at the zombies that were already very close and asked, "Aiden, do you know the way to the police station?"

Aiden nodded, "Of course."

He pointed in one direction and said, "Just keep walking along this street. If you're lucky, you'll arrive in about an hour."

"And if we're unlucky?" Claire asked.

Aiden looked at her with deep meaning, "If we're unlucky, it might take four to five hours. Raccoon City is too chaotic. Zombies aren't the only threat."

"Are there even scarier monsters?" Leon chimed in.

"Not just monsters, but humans too."

As Aiden said this, he paused, pulled out his handgun, and shot the approaching zombies in the head one by one, then continued, "There are several factions currently active in Raccoon City. Unfortunately, I've had dealings with all of them. Being with me means your chances of running into danger are very high."

"Sounds interesting." Claire didn't care at all. "But don't worry, we'll help you take care of those troubles. Right, Leon?"

"Of course." Leon nodded. "After all, he's our savior."

"Alright then, let's move out." Aiden took the first step forward and said while walking, "I really hope nothing else happens on the way."

But in reality, people shouldn't randomly raise flags.

The three of them hadn't walked far when an accident happened again.

Just as they stepped into Uptown, they were ambushed by a group of zombies. Although they broke through, they were immediately attacked by a pack of Hellhounds.

Dozens of Hellhounds chased the three of them around. Eventually, they got separated at a three-way intersection.

In an alley, Aiden was lazily sitting on a trash can, smoking a cigarette while checking the ammo on him.

"Five bullets left in the magazine… One fully loaded magazine left, one empty magazine, loose bullets all gone… Huh? Why is there an empty rifle clip? Where'd that come from?"

Casually tossing away the empty rifle clip, Aiden replaced the handgun's magazine with a new one. Then he jumped down from the trash can, stepped on the accumulated rainwater, and followed the alley onto another street.

This street could also lead to the Raccoon City Police Station, just with a few more twists and turns.

He moved quickly along the sidewalk. As for the zombies he encountered, Aiden dodged when he could, and if he couldn't, he took them out with close combat.

His bullets were limited, and he had to save them for tougher infected creatures.

After walking for about an hour, Aiden noticed a store up ahead that looked familiar. As he got closer, a trace of delight appeared on his face.

He had arrived at Kendo's Gun Shop.

Striding over, Aiden reached under the doormat at the door and pulled out the shop key, then opened the door and walked in.

Although Kendo had taken most of the valuable belongings when he left, and even gifted some firearms and ammo to the neighbors, Aiden still planned to search thoroughly. Maybe he'd get lucky.

After a careful search, Aiden found a few open boxes of 9mm handgun bullets under the handgun counter.

He counted them. Altogether, there were about a hundred rounds, enough to last him a while.

But unfortunately, he didn't find any spare Beretta magazines, which soured his mood again.

Zombies wouldn't give him time to reload.

With a regretful sigh, Aiden took out the empty magazine and began loading bullets into it. Just as he was about to top off the half-used one, suddenly, a familiar roar came from outside the door.

"S.T.A.R.S."

Aiden paused, thinking he was hearing things. After all, Brad and Jill had already left Raccoon City. The Nemesis shouldn't be appearing here.

Before he could figure it out, the wall opposite him suddenly burst open with a loud crash, and Nemesis, now in its second form, appeared in front of him.

"Shit!" Aiden cursed, stuffed the magazine into his pocket, and turned to run.

Running out of Kendo's Gun Shop, Aiden glanced back just in time to see Nemesis controlling a thick tentacle to strike at him. He immediately leapt to the side, dodging it.

But unexpectedly, that tentacle twisted back agilely. Aiden quickly drew his combat knife and slashed at it.

This knife was a genuine high-quality one he had swiped from Kendo's shop earlier. It was extremely sharp and sliced the tentacle easily.

However, Nemesis shot out another tentacle. This time, Aiden didn't dodge it. His legs were entangled. With a tug from Nemesis, Aiden was pulled forward uncontrollably.

Luckily, he reacted fast. As he fell, he decisively dropped the knife, positioned his arms to cross in front of his chest, and aimed his elbows downward to avoid smashing his face on the concrete.

Although his body was enhanced, it was still no match for concrete. He didn't want to get disfigured because of it.

"Hup!"

After hitting the ground, Aiden used his arms to flip himself over, then pulled out his handgun and fired at the tentacle.

Bang bang bang!

The tentacle broke apart. Aiden tore off the wriggling piece still stuck to him and quickly got up, shooting at Nemesis while backing away.

At this point, 9mm bullets did no real damage to Nemesis's second form. But since Aiden was hitting the head with every shot, it still gave Nemesis a hard time.

At least it slowed down its pursuit.

Once the magazine was empty, Aiden had already retreated over ten meters, outside the range of the tentacle's attack.

Nemesis gave up on using its tentacles, roared, and charged straight at Aiden.

Aiden had no desire to tangle with it and kept running.

Kendo's Gun Shop wasn't far from the police station, so Aiden didn't run long before seeing the iconic building.

Just as he was wondering whether to go inside and use the police station's complex layout to stall Nemesis, the walkie-talkie Ada had given him suddenly went off.

"Aiden, I see you." Ada's voice was still cold as ever, but Aiden could hear a hint of surprise in her tone.

"Then you should know my current situation."

Aiden looked around but didn't spot that familiar red figure. She was well-hidden.

"Of course. You look pretty miserable. Need help?"

"What do you think?" Aiden asked back.

"I think it's great. You running for your life looks really interesting." Ada chuckled.

"How heartbreaking, Ada. I didn't expect you to be such a cold-hearted woman." Aiden complained.

"That makes it sound like I'm a wife abandoning her husband." Ada didn't get angry at being teased. She replied with a playful smile.

"You are." Aiden said loudly, "I was even worried about your safety, went back to the station to find you, and that's what I get?"

"Uh-huh, well, that's truly my honor." A flicker of emotion flashed in Ada's eyes. She glanced at the Nemesis chasing Aiden and set up an enormous sniper rifle on the windowsill beside her.

It was an M82A1, an anti-materiel sniper rifle. It was a nightmare for all light vehicles. And of course, for carbon-based lifeforms, it was much worse than just a nightmare.

"Get down!" Ada leaned close to the scope, aimed briefly, and shouted into the walkie-talkie.

Hearing her warning, Aiden immediately dove forward and hit the ground. A loud gunshot rang out.

Instinctively looking back, Aiden saw a large hole in Nemesis's abdomen. Through it, he could even see a burning car in the background.

The M82A1 lived up to its name. It blasted a clean hole through Nemesis.

"Nice shot," Aiden praised.

Ada smiled faintly and fired again. This shot was even more precise, hitting Nemesis's heart. The thumb-sized bullet turned it into a mess of bloody pulp.

"Roar!"

Heavily wounded, Nemesis finally couldn't hold on. With a furious roar, it chose to flee again and disappeared into the darkness in the blink of an eye.

Watching it escape, Ada thought it was a pity. If she could've killed it right there, she would've gotten a lot of samples.

But for now, there were more important things than Nemesis.

Holding the sniper rifle, Ada propped herself up with one hand and jumped down from the window.

"Have you thought about how to thank me?" Landing steadily, Ada walked up to Aiden, looked him up and down, and asked with a teasing smile.

Aiden was wiping the mud off his face from the fall. Hearing Ada, he froze, "What did you say?"

"I saved you. Aren't you going to show some gratitude?"

Show something? Why does this sound just like Jill? Aiden had nothing to give, so he shamelessly said, "How about I repay you with my body?"

Ada froze, her smile vanishing. Then she lowered her head as if deep in thought. No one knew whether she was considering his offer seriously or debating whether to shoot him.

Seeing Ada's expression change, Aiden figured maybe that was a bit too flirty. Then he hurriedly explained, "I was just joking, don't take it seriously."

"Really?" Ada raised her head and gave him a faint look.

"Yes." Aiden didn't notice her gaze, only kept nodding repeatedly.

Ada's face once again showed a smile, but it was a cold smile. She threw the anti-materiel sniper rifle at Aiden, then walked toward the police station.

"Think carefully about how to thank me." As she passed by Aiden, Ada said coldly.

"Eh?" Aiden held the gun, his face full of confusion.
