Even after entering the Raccoon City Police Department, Ada's face was still cold, which made Aiden both fearful and worried, and at the same time he reflected inwardly, realizing he shouldn't have blurted out that sentence.
But looking at Ada's cold face, Aiden didn't dare to speak again and could only follow her silently.
At this moment, Ada suddenly stopped in her tracks. Aiden, who was a bit absent-minded, didn't stop in time and bumped into Ada's back.
"Sorry!" Aiden quickly apologized, then asked, "Ada, what's wrong?"
Ada didn't respond, only bent down, solemnly examining the messy footprints on the floor. She saw two very fresh footprints.
"Someone came in not long ago." Ada said in a low voice, "A man and a woman."
Hearing her words, Aiden immediately thought of Leon and Claire, so he said with a smile, "Isn't that perfect, we're also a man and a woman, fate huh."
Ada glanced at him coldly, then continued walking inside.
In fact, Aiden and Ada didn't come at a very good time.
Leon and Claire had arrived an hour earlier.
The two of them followed the footprints deeper inside, but even after the footprints disappeared, they still didn't find Leon and Claire.
However, this didn't affect the two much. Ada, needless to say, didn't even know Leon and Claire. If it weren't for Aiden wanting to take a look, she would've left already.
Aiden saw they couldn't find anyone, thought about it, and didn't insist either. After all, those two are the protagonists of Resident Evil 2, protected by plot armor. Rather than worrying about them, he might as well worry more about himself.
The two of them then started searching the police station.
Of course, Aiden knew the plot, so most of the time he was just pretending. Plus, he had also participated in the police station defense battle before, so only Ada seemed serious, not willing to leave any corner unchecked.
Doing this naturally wasted time and energy, but it also brought quite a few benefits, at the very least, they collected a lot of guns and ammunition.
Aiden's samurai blade was placed back into its sheath. He was now using a heavy-barreled M16A2, powerful and precise. The only thing he wasn't too satisfied with was that the gun only had single and three-round burst fire modes, and couldn't fire fully automatic. Its firepower wasn't much stronger than the AR-15 he used before.
But he was still quite satisfied, the smile on his face never left.
Ada found a compact model MP5. Although Aiden always thought that except for its rate of fire, the MP5 was only as powerful as a handgun, Ada said she needed exactly that rate of fire.
Of course, they didn't throw away the anti-materiel sniper rifle. It was still strapped to Aiden's back, their only weapon capable of fighting B.O.W.s.
With good equipment at hand, everything became much easier, and the two also sped up their search.
Not long after, they made a new discovery.
Using a map of the Raccoon City Police Department they found in an office, they arrived at the detention center in the police station. In one of the cells, they found a survivor.
Aiden also recognized this survivor, Ben Bertolucci. He was a freelance journalist, the exact person Ada was looking for. Of course, he wasn't Ada's boyfriend.
Just like in the original plot, Ben was sleeping, and sleeping very soundly. Aiden knocked on the metal bars several times, but still couldn't wake him.
In the end, Ada fired a shot at the ceiling, and only then did Ben reluctantly open his eyes, muttering as he got up from the "bed."
"Disturbing someone's sweet dream will land you in hell." Ben walked over to them behind the bars, loudly complaining.
"Too bad, we're already in hell." Aiden pointed to a corpse outside the cell. Its body had been chewed up by zombies, horribly mangled, looking no different from a scene in hell.
"And I don't think hell is scarier than this place." He added.
"Well, you're not wrong. This place really is hell." Ben frowned in disgust, seemingly nauseated.
"Are you Ben Bertolucci?" At this moment, Ada asked from the side.
Ben looked at her with confusion, "Who are you? How do you know me?"
"You don't need to know." Ada shook her head, then glanced at Aiden, who was smiling for no reason, and continued asking, "How much do you know about the Raccoon City incident? And do you know where John is?"
"John?" Ben froze for a moment, "Who exactly are you? Why are you looking for John?"
"I'm…" Just halfway through her sentence, Ada suddenly realized something, hesitated for a moment, glanced at Aiden, who was staring at her excitedly, then changed her words, "I'm his former colleague. I lost contact with him a few months ago. I came to Raccoon City this time to find him. You know…"
"Wait a sec…" Aiden suddenly interrupted, "Didn't you say you came looking for your—"
Before he finished, he saw the killing intent suddenly surge in Ada's eyes. He couldn't help but suck in a cold breath and swallowed the rest of his words.
"Haha… go on, go on." Aiden scratched his head awkwardly, thinking to himself, 'Why does this feel different from the original plot?'
Giving Aiden a cold glare, Ada continued, "I want to find John. Do you know where he is?"
"Heh heh!" Ben, being a freelance journalist, had plenty of connections. He did know that guy called John. But since he was also known for his strange temperament, he looked at Ada with a half-smile and said something very irritating, "Let's not talk about whether I know or not. Even if I did, I wouldn't tell you."
As soon as those words were spoken, the atmosphere immediately turned tense.
Aiden frowned, his expression darkened. Although he knew Ben was always annoying in the original plot, hearing that line still made his anger rise. He grabbed Ben's collar through the bars and, with a bit of strength, lifted him up.
"Hey… hey… don't get rough, man." Ben was shocked, flailing in the air, "I really don't know where he is! Let me go!"
Aiden, of course, knew he wasn't lying. He let out a cold snort and released his grip. Ben didn't react in time and fell hard to the ground, breaking into a cold sweat from the pain.
Clutching his butt, Ben climbed up and backed away a few steps. With his movement, the key jingled crisply from his pocket. It was clear he had locked himself inside.
"I don't know why you're looking for John, but what I want to say is, I really don't know where he went. He's been missing too long, I'm looking for him too." Ben said aggrievedly. "I only heard that before he disappeared, he might have discovered something shocking. Maybe that's why he went missing."
"Then did you find out anything after that?" Ada asked.
Ben hesitated for a moment. Just as he was about to speak, a beast-like roar echoed through the entire police station. He immediately became nervous, "Leave, you guys need to leave now!"
"What was that thing?" Ada quickly asked.
"I don't know." Ben shook his head, looking nervously at the entrance to the cell, and said with lingering fear, "But that's why I locked myself in here. Outside is full of monsters. This place is way safer."
Then he sat back down on the cell "bed." Perhaps his butt still hurt, because he frowned.
"You two should leave, or you'll draw them here." He added.
Of course, Ada wouldn't leave just like that. She still wanted to ask more. But just then, Aiden pulled her to leave.
"What are you doing?" Ada looked at him in confusion.
Aiden said with a serious expression, "Something's coming."
"Who is it?" Ada asked, seeing Aiden's serious face.
Aiden didn't answer. He just pulled Ada's arm and walked out. When they reached the door, he suddenly turned and shouted at Ben, "Are you sure you're not leaving?"
Ben stretched his hand through the bars and waved at him.
"You deserve to die." Seeing this, Aiden muttered, then pulled Ada away from the detention center.
Not long after they left, a strange and terrifying figure appeared outside the detention center. With a light grab of its huge right arm, it tore the steel door from the frame.
Hearing the noise outside, Ben leaned close to the bars and looked out. What he saw shocked him to the core.
A monster with an eye on its right arm walked into the detention center from outside.
Ben immediately pulled out his pistol and aimed at the monster.
"Don't… don't come over here!" Ben shouted, but his hands holding the gun were shaking.
The giant eye on the monster's arm suddenly turned to look at him. The huge pupil was full of brutality and indifference. Its still-human head let out a mindless roar.
Then, it waved its arms and twisted the steel bars of the cell, thicker than a human arm, into a spiral…
———
"Aiden, we should've taken him with us."
After leaving the detention center, the two entered a nearby room. As soon as they got inside, Ada said in frustration.
"Take him with us?" Aiden was slightly stunned, "Ada, are you worried about his safety?"
"That's not the reason." Ada said, "I just want to know where John is."
Aiden gave a long "oh," then said, "Looks like you really care about your boyfriend…"
"He's not my boyfriend." Ada cut him off.
"But you clearly said so yesterday, and I have a great memory." Aiden pointed to his head, "Memory like a video recorder."
