Chapter 9 - CHAPTER EIGHT

Sharlene's husband is here now, she just looked at them sitting next to each other, happily chatting, and she is just ignoring what she sees now.

She only sighed, Ashley was there beside her husband, she knew he was trying to get their father's attention, but he was ignoring it. It hurts her deeply to see her child like that. Ashley has a father, but he doesn't pay any attention to their child.

Her night has become busy again, they are about to send their grandmother to her final resting place, because she just took a leave from work to attend to an unexpected problem.

Sharlene felt someone tugging at the sleeve of her shirt, so she looked at it, and was met with the sad gaze Ashley was giving her. She didn't say anything, but she could feel her sadness.

"Why?" Sharlene asked the child, stroking her cheek.

Ashley just shook her head in response. "Mom, I'm going to rest for a bit." Ashley said softly to her.

She carried Ashley, she would just take her to their room, since it was getting late and her child needed to sleep now.

She passed by the two who were chatting.

"Sharlene." Called by her wonderful husband.

She just turned around and looked at them meaningfully.

"I want to carry Ashley first." He smiled at her.

"Ash is going to sleep now, she was just waiting for you earlier." She calmly said to the person in front of him.

She doesn't want to get angry now.

"My bad, my bad, Sheila and I were just having such a good time chatting, I didn't notice Ash earlier." Martin even chuckled softly.

Her blood boiled at what she heard.

"Go on, we're only interrupting our conversation." She looked at them intently.

"S—Sharlene, sorry if you feel that way, I'm just really talkative, look, we'll take care of the Ashley for now." Sheila replied then, giving her a gentle smile.

She noticed that Ashley didn't want to approach them, so she ignored what the person in front of her was saying; she needed to take her home and let her sleep soundly.

She walked away from the two.

"Sharlene! Sharlene!" Sheila called out to her. She didn't listen anymore, and she kept walking until they reached the room.

She immediately put her child to sleep.

"Don't worry, Mom won't leave your side until you fall asleep." She kissed her on the forehead, looking at her child lovingly as she gazed back at her.

Ashley is still sad now. "What do you want mom to do?" she asked the child.

She smiled at her. "Just stay by my side, Mom, until I fall asleep." Ashley replied and she knows it's her child request.

She simply nodded, Sharlene lay down beside her child with her just hugging her arm, while she caressed her cheek—this was how she looked until she noticed that Ashley had fallen into a deep sleep.

Sharlene got up slowly so as not to disturb her child's sleep, and she even adjusted the bedding to make it more comfortable for the child.

She stepped out of the room, then someone waiting for her, let out a sigh, and walked past the man who was waiting for her. She didn't expect that she hadn't slept with her 'friend' yet.

Sharlene are is being followed by Martin.

"Apologize to Sheila, Sharlene." That's all she heard to Martin.

Sharlene ears perked up, and she glared at the man in front of her, her eyebrows arching.

"What sin have I committed that I need to apologize for?" she could only ask.

"You disrespect her, do you know that person even took the time to sympathize with you?" said the one with crossed arms, looking at her from head to toe.

Sharlene raised her eyebrows and her forehead furrowed.

"Disrespect? What a big word coming from you, Martin." She stared intently at the person she was talking to.

Martin approached her, glaring at her with a sharp look. "If you can't respect my guest, I will give you a warning, Sharlene, something bad will happen to you." Martin warned her.

"Can you tell me how I disrespected him, Martin?" she asked, not backing down from the gaze her husband gave her.

It just shook his head at her and suddenly walked away, "You really are a disgusting woman." He immediately left and went out of the house.

Sharlene just clenched her fist back then. She just sat on the couch alone, thinking whether her decision to hold on to a relationship she knew could never be repaired was right. She was worried about the actions that might affect her child, Ashley. Her hand trembled in anger at herself.

You really are hopeless, Sharlene. She could only say it in her mind. She closed his eyes then and immediately leaned back on the couch.

"Sis." Someone is calling her.

Sharlene just turned around and saw Tashia.

"Tashia." She just sighed at that moment.

"Are you okay?" Tashia gaze at her with concern look in her eyes.

"Sorry, I'm just a bit tired," She apologized.

She heard that it sighed. "Where is Ashley, sis?" "She asked her while looking for the child around.

"Ah, she's sleeping soundly." She just smiled at her companion.

She just nodded at what he said. "Can I visit him?" she simply asked him.

She was surprised by the way that Tashia act "O --- Of course."

"Are Martin and the others no longer outside?" She asked Tashia.

Tashia didn't answer her question. "I saw them leave already because they both have work tomorrow," Tashia replied her question.

She just nodded in agreement. "Good thing they're gone."

"Why, sister? What did they do to you? " Asked Tashia while looking at her.

"Ah," she was thinking of what to say. "I --- I mean, they need to go home now because they have work to do." She said this so Tashia wouldn't suspect the relationship he was involved in.

He just sighed. "I'll visit Ashley first, then you can rest for now, I'll take care of things for now." She heard Tashia.

"Thank you, Tashia."

Sharlene forehead throbbed, and as she rubbed it, she suddenly felt as if someone was sitting next to her. So, her muscles woke up, and she looked at where she was sitting now.

She didn't see anyone sitting next to her, the cold wind was brushing against her arm, making the hairs on her body stand up. She just swallowed, immediately moved aside, but she still felt that someone was beside him on the couch.

Calm down, Sharlene. This was all that crossed her mind; she was about to dismiss what she was feeling when her gaze fell upon a woman wearing mourning attire.

Sharlene just turned away, unable to find her voice and unable to scream, unable to see its face, but she knew it was staring at her and suddenly it just smiled at her.

Shh. She heard the voice mingling with the wind, and her throat suddenly went dry at what she saw now.
