Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Sixth Hunter

Lin Feng heard the subtle sound of a bowstring being plucked, knowing someone was shooting a cold arrow at his back, aiming for his spine.

He dropped the wild boar and lunged sideways with force.

With a soft thud, a feathered arrow struck the wild boar meat, the fletching still vibrating.

Lin Feng rolled several times, hiding behind a large tree.

About twenty meters away, voices could be heard.

"Seems like it missed!"

Another shouted, "Little brother, it was a misunderstanding. We mistook you for a wild boar."

"We're all hunters—why don't we come out and chat?"

"Little brother, your skills are truly remarkable."

"To hunt such a large wild boar at your age..."

"My son and I are ashamed."

"May I ask which village little brother is from?"

Lin Feng hid, glancing at the two, then quickly retracted his head.

The shooter was a man in his early forties with a large bow and quiver.

Beside him stood a fifteen- or sixteen-year-old boy holding a steel fork.

Lin Feng looked at their attribute panels.

Both had a life attribute of nine and had learned the unranked skill, Hundred Step Archery.

The man had cultivated it to entry level.

This encounter reminded Lin Feng he lacked ranged attacks.

He must learn hidden weapons or archery. With the system, learning is easy.

Lin Feng stayed silent. Only a fool would believe it was a misunderstanding.

The wild boar had already been skinned—no one would mistake it.

Though invincible below demon beasts, he was still weak among humans.

Still, he didn't take the two seriously.

This ambush reminded him of his father's death.

His father, a cautious hunter, shouldn't have died to beasts.

Perhaps he was ambushed by humans too.

In the mountains, humans are more dangerous than beasts.

Seeing no response, the man said, "Since you don't trust us, we'll leave. Farewell."

Then footsteps receded.

Lin Feng listened—only one set of footsteps.

No need to think—the boy left, the man must be nearby.

Using his eye's corner, Lin Feng spotted shaking bushes.

The man crouched, bow ready, creeping around.

Lin Feng threw his coat to the right, dashing out from the left.

Whoosh—an arrow pierced the coat.

The man shot by reflex, mistaking it for Lin Feng.

As he tried nocking again, Lin Feng had already closed the distance.

Like a leopard, Lin Feng ran using Leopard Gait, darting several meters per stride.

Seeing this, the man panicked and fired—but missed.

Lin Feng burst forward.

The man tried another shot—too late.

He regretted everything—shouldn't have killed for a boar.

He brought his son—now both might die.

The man shouted, "Son, run! Don't look back!"

At that moment, Lin Feng's Black Tiger Clawing Heart struck.

The man crossed his arms—but crack, crack—his arms broke.

He flew several meters, blood spurting midair.

Lying on the ground, he gasped, "My son didn't ambush you... please spare him."

Lin Feng said nothing.

He smashed the man's skull with a Wild Donkey Leg.

Bang—he was gone.

Lin Feng looked at the boy.

The boy's face was still childish—he hadn't run far.

"Dad, Dad…" he cried in fear.

He wanted to flee but couldn't leave his father.

It was the boy's first hunt with his father.

They hadn't caught anything.

Then they found Lin Feng with the wild boar.

The man got greedy.

The boy had tried stopping him.

But his father said this world was cruel—kill or be killed.

The lesson ended in death.

Now the boy fled.

Lin Feng turned to chase.

Even if the boy didn't act, Lin Feng had to kill him.

He had killed his father.

A grudge like this must be avenged.

Letting him go risked future revenge.

If he had a fortuitous encounter and became strong, Lin Feng's family would be doomed.

Rules like "no killing families" only applied in the inner city—where guards protect them.

Outside, those rules mean nothing.

Lin Feng's speed crushed the boy's.

He leaped—just as the boy spun and stabbed backward with the steel fork.

Lin Feng had underestimated him.

In mid-air, he couldn't dodge.

The boy's eyes lit up—he thought victory was his.

He saw Lin Feng being stabbed in the throat and killed in one blow.
