Chapter Nine
Aurora's POV
I got into my car and drove back home with a lot of questions in my mind trying to find out who he was and why he had so much authority in his voice.
"How did the waitress know his name within an hour of getting to the restaurant?" I asked myself.
After a while, I shook my head, "Well, he's supposed to be known everywhere he steps into since he's a womanizer. Maybe the owner of the company called to warn him about making out with his staffer. Damn! He's in huge trouble," I thought, shrugging my shoulders as I focused on where I was going.
Just a few meters away from home, I checked the time and realized I still had enough time to stay outside, so I picked up my phone and dialed Isla's number, and she immediately picked up at the first ring.
"Where you at, Isla?" I asked.
"Is that how you greet a friend you haven't heard from in two days?" Isla asked.
"I should be the angry one, not you, Isla," I said.
"But I sent you a message yesterday," Isla said.
"Let's talk, I'm coming over to your apartment now," I said and immediately turned my steering.
"Meet me at our favorite bar," Isla said.
"Are you there to see a man," I asked, sounding happy.
"Maybe, but he's long gone so I'm just relaxing here. You should come over so we can continue from where he stopped. You will stop me sitting beside the window with my favorite dress," Isla said.
"No problem," I said, ending the call as I placed my phone on the next seat and drove straight to our favorite bar where we spent almost all our college days.
We became regular customers there till the owner of the bar knew our parents and even where we lived so he just drove us home anytime we got drunk.
A few minutes later, I got to the bar and immediately spotted Isla sipping a bottle of soda. I needed no one to tell me what she was doing, as I quickly knew that she had been watching her weight for days now.
Isla stood up and proceeded to hug me immediately she saw me coming closer.
"How have you been, Aurora? I've missed you," Isla asked, pulling me into a tight hug which I immediately reciprocated.
"I'm fine, Isla," I said, smiling.
"You need to start telling me all that has been going on for the past few days that I didn't call or reach out to you," Isla said, sounding so anxious.
"Before that, tell me about the man that left here a few minutes ago, or is he still the same man you told me you have been seeing for years now? You should at least tell me his name for once" I asked.
"That's not important, Aurora," Isla said convincingly, and I started telling her all that had been happening for the past two days, and I also told her about Liam.
"You should have called me to come deal with him for speaking to you so rudely and arrogantly," Isla said.
"That's not the issue. We are getting married, and he's coming to see my parents tomorrow," I said.
I didn't want to tell Isla about the contract marriage because she might go ahead to tell my parents about it. She was shocked at first, but after convincing her that I truly loved Liam, she let me be and we moved to another conversation.
We finished about four hours later, and we got into our separate cars, going different routes. I was hoping to meet everywhere to be empty and quiet, but alas, I saw my father's car parked in his spot, and I immediately sensed he was around.
"Hopefully, he won't be in the first living room," I muttered as I got out of my car and walked in, only to see my parents seated comfortably in the living room.
"Where have you been all day, Aurora?" my mother asked immediately if I was about to take a step up.
"Stop monitoring me, and for your information, my husband-to-be is coming over tomorrow, so get ready to receive him," I said and walked up to my room.
I didn't care about what else they had to say as I focused on getting to my room.
The next morning, I woke up receiving an email from Liam about the contract marriage. I had mixed feelings as I stared at the document.
What if I can't give him what he wants?
Will I even be able to love someone I don't know?
I thought about a series of questions as I opened my laptop to sign the document. I finished signing and resent the document back to him.
I got ready to visit the court where I was to put in my original signature and also meet with the marriage counselor. I got there and saw Liam standing at the gate with no car beside him.
"So, he borrows all the cars he drives around with, Pfft," I thought as I parked the car and walked towards him
"Is this really necessary?" I asked, staring at Liam as we stood in front of the counselor's office.
"Maybe," Liam said, shrugging his shoulders.
We finished the marriage counseling in about an hour and were set to go see my parents. I called Isla who gave me some words of encouragement and apologized for not being with me.
We stopped at the supermarket to get a few things while Liam stopped at a big company to take some things. I'm not so sure about his position in the company, but it looked like he was working as a driver to the owner of the company and no car was given to him today to drive.
I didn't bother about all that as long as my parents were rich and I was capable of making him rich in years to come with my investment and properties bought under my name.
"What do you do for a living, Liam?" I suddenly bursted out when I couldn't hold it in anymore.
"Is that really necessary?" Liam asked, nonchalantly.
"Yes, Liam. We are about to get married and I'm supposed to know what my husband is into in case people starts poke josng in our marriage saying it's too soon.
Forget about the fact that my family is rich and we can easily set you up. What do you do?" I asked again, but not taking my attention off the road.
"Well, Aurora. According to the document I sent to you about the rules of this marriage, I stated that no personal questions should be asked from me unless we meet your parents," Liam said.
"Like seriously?" I asked, looking surprised.
I surw did receive the rules of the marriage but I didn't go through it thinking it wasn't necessary.
"You should go through the rules again," Liam said and turned to face the road staring at the passer-by not wanting to start a conversation with me.
We got home, and I looked around the house, hoping my parents would still be around.
"Welcome to Sinclair's mansion," I said to Liam as we got out of the car.
"Aurora, is that you? We are upstairs here," my mom's voice came from the second living room.
We walked up the stairs to the second living room when my mom suddenly screamed immediately, she saw me come up with my husband.
"What is it, Mom?" I asked, looking confused.
"Liam," that's all my mom could say as she stared at Liam.
"Mom, do you know him?" I asked, still looking confused.
"Yes, he's Liam Carter, the richest man in the city," my mom said.
"What!" I exclaimed as I turned to stare at Liam who wasn't moved by anything we were saying.
