Chapter 9 - Whoaw... what happened here?

Seoul

The aftermath of Ahn revealing himself to be an awakened human was hectic to say the least. This at least had the upside that no one noticed the changes that were taking place with Jin-Woo. Slowly gone was the scrawny hunter which was being replaced by a super human of a being. Ahn could see more and more of the late manhwa Jin-Woo rather than that scrawny dweeb that he found in the hospital.

Currently the whole office had relocated to the HA testing site near their facility. Everyone from the Second Division had shown up to witness their Chief be tested for his rank. Due to the crowd being so large, all the major and minor guilds that were recruiting couldn't help but be curious about what was happening. When the WTG had come into the building, they couldn't see who it was that they were gathered around with how many people were surrounding the potential hunter. But now that he was inside the testing chamber, everyone gathered there to wait for the conclusion to the hype that they were witnessing.

Chsssk

Slowly the door to the testing room opened and everyone could now get a glimpse at the person that was being tested. Everyone came up a bit short with surprise when they saw that it was the WTG's Second Division Chief Ahn Sangmin. At least now they knew why everyone was so hyped, that man was a legend for his sense to scout out potential allies for his guild, having built an entire division around A and B ranks that could compete with the Hunters B squad that sometimes had Cha Hae-In leading them.

"Who is that?"

Some new intern asked in the back. Everyone turned around and looked at him like he was some kind of idiot for asking that question, to be in this line of business and not know the name of one of the most talented scouter was shameful.

Smack..

"Do you even listen to what I tell you in meetings.. God these interns get dumber by the minute, if only they weren't so good at fetching coffee"

Every scouter with an intern at that moment nodded along with the boss of that intern, they all knew the pain of having to train an intern that thought that their GPA qualified their attitude and lackadaisical work ethics. There were a lot of veterans that built the system of scouting hunters and these fresh wannabees wouldn't understand their potentials from their duds even if they could see the future.

Sigh

There was a momentary collective sigh of pain that spread across the room before everyone turned back towards the main show.

"Chief.. what was your rank? Was it a high B rank.. or maybe A rank... wait don't tell me.. its S rank right?"

Everyone in WTG was hoping that they would get another S rank after Ms. Hae-In got nabbed from them and this was their golden opportunity.

"Hmmmm... we shall have to see. They said the machine was malfunctioning for some reason so I will be tested in a couple of days."

There was a collective gasp. Everyone knew that the machine never malfunctioned, and needing a secondary assessment only meant one thing.

S RANK

That's weird though... it doesn't reflect that I am an S rank in my system..

[While Host has enough mana, Host doesn't have the right job title to be considered S rank by the system. Host has to level up more before Host can be considered a true S rank by this system]

I knew it.. trash.. garbage.. dumb system...

WTG

Baek Yoonho sat in front of Ahn in his office while contemplating what this whole situation could mean for him and his guild. Although Ahn was his employee, he was a salary man at the end of the day. This meant that he could break his contract with the guild very easily without any repercussions. Regular employees were not put into the iron clad contracts that hunters were put into, so for them they could work and quit as they wished. But it wasn't something that he wanted to see of his long time employee and friend.

"Is there anything I can offer that would make you stay here?"

This was the make it or break it point. Both of them new that his moment would shape how their future interactions would go.

"Is your seat open?"

Baek leaned back. This, now this was something that he could work with. He had half expected Ahn to break away from his guild and start a new one. The loss in personal would be huge. There were many that were loyal to Ahn himself and not just the guild. They would leave in a heartbeat if that meant they could continue working for the man that allowed them to shine so brightly in this era of superhumans.

"You want to be guild master.. is that it?"

"Baek, both me and you know that I can become create my own guild the second they confirm my rank, these two days are all you have to come to a decision."

Getting up Ahn started making his way to the door. He was glad that this conversation had gone civil, Baek was a wild card at times...

"..."

Baek couldn't respond to that, it was just the reality of the situation. But he couldn't allow Ahn to leave this room without having a direction or a real conclusion to this proposal.

When have I Baek, the White Tiger, ever hesitated when making a choice..

Baek knew that although he built this guild, it wasn't exactly going anywhere. For years they had been overshadowed by the Hunters guild, always just a step behind. Maybe... maybe it was time for a change. Something had to be done regardless, so why not make it with someone that has been here since the start.

"Prove it, prove to me you are someone I can place my life's work on the line for.."

Ahn stopped right at the door, his had gripping the door handle.

Almost gave up on you... though you weren't a strong character, you still had guts in my opinion

Ahn slowly turned around while gathering his magic to put the spectacle that was asked of him on show. Right when he and Baek made eye contact, the entire building shook.

INFERIOR

Baek's animal instincts kicked into overdrive in that moment. Gone was the casual Guild Master and out came the S rank hunter that dove head deep into a monster pile and walked back out casually. Baek's hair had turned completely white and was floating around him in a panic. If it wasn't such a serious moment, Ahn might have laughed by how frightened Baek looked right now.

Sweat was pouring down Baek's face and he was shrinking in on himself as the weight of the magic pushed him back and down. It took all he had not to grovel in front of this being.. no longer in his mind was Ahn human. That amount of magic, he hadn't felt that since he met Thomas Andre aka The Goliath. And even his magic hadn't brought him this far in terms of fear and awe.

"Is this enough, or do you want me to let it all go?"

Wait.. this isn't his full magical weight? How much is he holding back...

Even though Ahn had said that in a casual tone, it was like thunder in Baek's ears.

"N..n..no. I think you've proven your point"

[Host, wasn't that 99% of Host's magical power, what more would Host have shown]

Sometimes I wish you were a person so I could strangle you.. its called lying/acting to get what you want...

"Good, so does that mean your office is now mine?"

Baek looked around sheepishly noticing that most of his stuff had already either been destroyed or were on the verge of being destroyed from the magic backlash.

"It looks like I will need new office decorations.. so why not?"

Looking around, Ahn noted the damage that he had caused unintentionally, it was probably the first and last time he would do this, well at least in an office space.

"Chief, CHIEF, emergency! The HA sent a report of a dungeon break in downtown area. There is a guild on scene but most of them are in critical condition. The HA can't get to them in time and have issued a direct mission to us... whoaw, what happened in here?"

Both Ahn and Baek looked at each other, then at the same time burst out in laughter.

"I guess the dungeon break incident distracted everyone from your little stunt Ahn"
