Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 Rescue

"So sleepy…"

"Come on Laffey, you can't fall asleep on patrol"

The small girl was barely awake, she looked to Atlanta with half closed eyes.

"Atlanta, can you carry me back to port?" Laffey asked the pink haired girl.

"No! Portland, help me out!" Atlanta looked over towards Portland who had a downcast expression.

"I miss Indy…"

"Not you too!"

Atlanta was forced to give in, as she received a radio call. She answered it only to hear a panicked voice. The voice belonged to Prince of Wales who was temporarily managing Pearl Harbor.

"Atlanta, where are you on your patrol route!?" The girls quickly got serious.

"We're at the halfway point, I'll tell you my coordinates"

"No need! I'll give you new coordinates that you must head to right away!"

The girls got the coordinates and quickly started sailing.

"What's happening?"

"We received a distress signal from an Eagle Union ship that is carrying something very important. It's being attacked by sirens and your group is the closest to it. Reinforcements from the port won't make it in time" Prince of Wales explained.

"I understand" While the girls didn't know what the ship was carrying, they understood its importance just from hearing Wales' panicked voice, something that is never heard.

~BOOM~

"Can they stop shelling us, FOR ONE MINUTE!" The captain was not having a good time. The ship had taken a few more hits. While they did manage to sink two siren cruisers and set fire to another, they were still outnumbered and the siren ships were getting closer.

"When will reinforcements get here!?"

"5 minutes captain!"

The captain was somewhat relieved hearing this. As long as they stayed evasive, they would survive. Olivia was also happy to hear the news. But it all fell apart.

~Bang~

A sailor burst through the door, his expression showed he was terrified.

"Captain! A humanoid siren is on the ship!"

The captain was in despair.

"How did we not detect it!? How did it get on the ship!?" Olivia asked.

"I-I don't know" The sailor responded.

The captain and his crew were at a loss of what to do. Siren ships were one thing, but a humanoid siren? Might as well call it quits and give up. They were just normal humans, with a siren on the ship, there was nothing they could do.

The bridge was quiet until Olivia spoke up.

"I have an idea, a crazy one. But it might work"

Everyone looked at her with a bit of hope in their eyes.

"Well, I'm all ears, commander"

'I know I came up with the plan, but I don't want to do this anymore!'

Olivia ran through the halls of the ship.

"Haha, you can't run forever!" Behind her was the humanoid siren, known as purifier, giving chase. Purifier wasn't taking the chase seriously, instead she was enjoying it. After all, there was nothing a normal human could do to harm her.

Olivia ran past a bulkhead door and quickly closed and locked it. She started running, not even looking back to see if it slowed down the siren because the sudden explosion was her answer.

Her heart was pounding as she ran, She knew her plan was crazy, but there was no other options. At least nothing she or the captain could think of.

With the sound of the Purifier's mocking laughter growing louder behind her, she pushed herself harder, rounding a corner as quickly as she could. Recounting her suidicial plan. 'Just have to get her close to the main guns…'

She ran as fast as she could, her breath coming out in desperate gasps. Behind her, Purifier's playful taunts were getting closer.

"You can't outrun me, little human!" Followed by childlike laughter which sent a chill down Olivia's spine.

She located the hatch leading to the deck and quickly climbed the ladder. She shut the hatch and ran towards the front of the ship where the main guns were. The hatch didn't hold long as an explosion sent it flying into the sky.

Reaching the front of the ship, she turned around only to see Purifier a few feet away. "It was a fun chase! But its game over now!"

The captain watched from the bridge as the siren cornered Olivia. The captain began giving orders to the crew who communicated with the gun crew. They only had one shot at this, if it failed they were all dead.

The captain gave the order for the front main turret to turn into position. He also ordered all the secondary and anti-air weapons to be fired to drown out the sound of the main turret turning.

Olivia glanced to see the turret begin to turn. Purifier was oblivious to it all as she stepped closer to Olivia. But the closer she got to Olivia the more off Olivia felt to her, like she wasn't supposed to be here. Then she noticed her gaze. "What are you–"

Just as Purifier turned her head to see what Olivia was looking at, the cannon shifted into place. Purifier was staring right down the barrel. "OH SHI–"

~BOOM~

Before she could react, the cannon fired, sending a shell at point blank into her face, decapitating her as the shell flew through and out into open water.

Olivia was knocked back from the shockwave, hitting her like a battering ram. Her ears were filled with nothing but an unrelenting roar. She gasped for air, her vision spinning for a moment as the reverberation of the explosion seemed to shake the very air around her. Her ears were ringing so loudly she could barely hear her own breathing.

She couldn't hear the rush of the wind or the crashing waves. Her hands were shaking, and she struggled to steady herself, her heartbeat deafening in her ears.

She was on the ground, disorientated and trying to stabilize herself. Crew medics rushed out to her with a stretcher. They tried to speak to her but she couldn't hear anything but a loud ringing. A few moments later she fell unconscious.

The crew celebrated, the humanoid siren had been dealt with and during the time the medics retrieved Olivia, reinforcements arrived.

The captain was radioed by Atlanta, an Eagle Union Kansen of Azur Lane and two other Kansen who came to their aid. The Kansen made quick work of the siren mass produced ships.

As the crew cheered, the captain let out a sigh of relief. He reached into his coat and took out a metal flask, and drank it in one go. "I should retire soon, I'm getting too old for this. Leave it to the younger generation"
