-San Diego Eagle Union Naval Base-
A black car had pulled up to the main headquarters of the naval base. The car stopped and the passenger door opened. A beautiful woman got out of the car and closed the door. Her beauty could easily rival a goddess, with long bright white hair, sky blue eyes and smooth silky skin wearing a white formal navy uniform. This was Olvia now reborn as Olivia Schariac
She entered the building, walking through the halls where her appearance caused many to look in her direction. She stopped in front of the door and knocked.
"It's Olivia Schariac"
"Enter" The voice inside called out.
She opened the door and saw a middle-aged man sitting behind a desk going through a pile of documents.
Olivia saluted, then was asked to sit down.
"May I ask why I was called back here, Admiral"
The admiral presented a document to Olivia. "You will be transferred to Pearl Harbor and become the commander of Azur Lane"
The room was silent as Olivia slowly processed the words she had heard.
"WHAT!?" Her scream echoed through the building. Realizing her mistake, she covered her mouth. "My apologies"
"It's alright, I expected this reaction" He said as he pulled out earplugs from his ear.
Olivia's face became bright red, embarrassed by her actions and how her reaction was predictable to the admiral.
"Wasn't there already a commander assigned to Azur Lane?" She asked.
The Admiral leaned back in his chair. "He stepped down from his position six days ago"
"Why?"
"Same reason as the previous four commanders"
Olivia knew what he meant. Azur Lane was an organization formed by several countries. All the members of this organization are known as Kansen or shipgirls. Basically, warships that were given sentience and a humanoid body using the power of the wisdom cube. The only human is the commander who leads Azur Lane.
However, the kansen never got along with the assigned commanders. No one knows why, the kansen were friendly and cooperative with every other human and showed no problems but when it comes to the commanders, that friendliness would disappear and be replaced with hostility.
"You're throwing me to the wolves Admiral!"
"I know, but…" He gave a thumbs up. "You'll be fine"
Olivia couldn't believe what she was hearing. She wanted to cry.
"Why did you choose me for this?" She let out fake tears of sadness.
"I didn't choose, the kansen did"
"Huh?" Her tears stopped, she was confused by what he said.
The admiral, noticing her confusion, explained. "We went with a new approach, instead of just assigning a commander, we decided to give the kansen a list of candidates to review and choose from. And they choose you"
"They did…"
'So, it's the wolves that chose me!'
The admiral looked down at his watch, noticing the time he gave her a file with information on Azur Lane. "Go pack your belongings and get some rest. Your ride will be here tomorrow at 6AM to take you to Pearl Harbor. Your dismissed"
…
-The Next Day-
Olivia was standing at the port staring at the ship that will be transporting her to Pearl Harbor. A Baltimore-class heavy cruiser. This one still manned by people, apparently the ships in Azur Lane that aren't kansen, function autonomously, having no human crew to sail and operate the vessel.
She did wonder how they worked but when she was given a lesson on the science behind them, she realized that it was a foolish question since she couldn't understand a word they said.
Olivia boarded the ship, she met with the captain and gave her greetings before she was escorted by a crewmember to her room. Setting her belongings down, she sat down at the desk in the room.
She had been a bit worried when she learned that the ship would have no escorts, but the captain reassured her that there would be no problems. It was just a quick trip to Pearl Harbor, and the sea between Pearl Harbor and San Diego is very secure due to both Azur Lane as well as Eagle Union naval ships constantly patrolling the waters.
Olivia pulled out a book and decided to read for the duration of the trip.
…
…
~ALARM~
"WAHH!" Olivia fell out of her chair, she had fallen asleep while reading, only to be awakened by the alarms sounding throughout the ship. Getting up she questioned what was happening until she heard the discharge of the ship's main batteries.
It didn't take a genius to realize what was happening. Exiting her room, she quickly made her way towards the bridge. The ship constantly shaking from the firing of its cannons. Arriving at the bridge, she found the captain barking orders at the sailors, a visible panic on his face.
Approaching the captain she asked "Captain, what's the situation?" The captain looked over at her, he gave her binoculars and pointed in one direction. "Ten siren ships have been spotted, two battleships and the rest are cruisers".
Using the binoculars, she got a good look at the ships. A sleek black hull, with an alien design. The sirens deployed mass produced ships that were autonomous just like what Azur Lane uses, but unlike Azur Lane, the sirens were capable of producing them in much higher numbers that would overwhelm the world's navies. This caused many nations to abandon plenty of land, and close off sea trade routes.
Olivia watched as the siren ships opened fire. The captain ordered his sailors to begin evasive maneuvers.
~BOOM~
The ship shook violently as one of the projectiles hit its mark near the backend of the ship, knocking out one of the turrets.
Turning back to the captain who was ordering for damage control teams. Olivia asked if any help was on the way.
"I've sent a distress call to Azur Lane, they have deployed kansen to help us, but it will be awhile before they arrive. The only thing we can do now is hold out" Stated the captain.
Olivia couldn't help but think 'I haven't even officially become the commander, yet I'm already being thrown into battle!'
