Chapter 27 - Dormant Trait

"Well shit then..." Sin paused, looking at the table of Hunter's waiting for his reply, "I guess I'll have to accept then."

...

Sin arrived to his room and shut his door behind him.

'That was weird...' He thought for a millisecond, walking over to the table in his room and sitting down on the chair before it.

'Getting an opportunity like this is something that has never happened to me. I guess it's kind of sad that my instincts immediately make me question any type of good that comes my way. But I won't complain. I'll just see it as the Gods blessing me with luck to beg for my forgiveness.'

He chuckled, taking a breath.

'That's in only two days... so that means that is how much time I have left to figure out as much as I can about this system.'

Firstly, he began to speak different commands to the system.

"Hello."

No reply.

"Are you there? Show me something if you are there..."

Nothing.

'Hmm...' Sin scratched the side of his head, 'It seems it doesn't work like some advanced artificial intelligence that does whatever I want for me. If that's the case, then it must run under a specific chain of commands.'

"Show me my stats."

A small flicker of blue light sparked in front of Sin's retinas--like a flame's ember. Then, it instantly expanded to a transparent blue screen.

"What about my abilities? I see that arts are listed, but I don't really know what those are. Are those my abilities? The only ability that you, the system, have used before is the one that made me forcibly gain a Spirit. Are there more abilities like that which I have?"

Even after this, Sin got no reply.

"I see... I guess that's all the system has to offer for now."

*Ding*

"Oh?"

"Tsk... so nothing, huh?" Sin was disappointed to see this, even if only for a second.

*Ding*

Sin's eyes flickered a bit more open. His eyelids then narrowed as he read the new panel in front of him.

[Unique Traits]

>[Normal Traits: --]

>[Dormant Traits: 1]

---

"Oh? Dormant? What's the difference between that and Normal Traits? In fact, what are Traits in the first place?"

[Unique Trait Description: Traits that are specific to the host of the Infinite Spirit Energy System]

[Trait Description: A power unique to the Infinite Spirit Energy System. Created, founded, and used through the power of the Infinite Spirit Energy System]

[Dormant Trait Description: A special Unique Trait that develops within the host's body. It is the single pillar upon which the Infinite Spirit Energy System exists. There is only one Dormant Trait, and from it stems all other traits]

"What is it then? What is my Dormant Trait?" Sin's eagerness grew as he waited for the system's reply.

[Dormant Trait: If the host of the Infinite Spirit Energy System devours the Spirit of someone in their bloodline, they will unlock a Unique Trait.]

"W-what?" At first, Sin was taken aback by this description. "Devour the Spirit of someone in my bloodline? That's a cruel way to get another ability... on top of that, it's almost ironic how I of all people--with no bloodline left to speak of--have to have a bloodline in order to get another ability."

Sin was flabbergasted. It was almost like the system was playing a prank on him or something. Teasing him for having no one in his family left alive.

Even if he wanted to heartlessly murder a relative and steal their Spirit, or even just capture their Spirit as they naturally pass away, he would never be able to do so because he is the sole survivor of his entire bloodline.

Sin squeezed his fist for a moment, "Stupid mother fucker." He muttered under his breath. This wasn't directed towards the system or anything. It was just a way for him to exhaust some of his frustrations.

"Fine then... I'll just level up instead. There's no way I won't gain power that way."

Brushing off the failure with the system, Sin looked down at his wrists. He had the Draco Gauntlets already donned on his hands.

It was a small sign of his progression so far. Still, he had a lot of work to do before he could exact his revenge.

Speaking of revenge, at this moment, a vision of the shadows of the knights from back in Lucel flashed through his mind. The overwhelming urge to rip all of their esophagus' from out of their throats made Sin's body almost quiver from the rage.

However, he had to contain it. Use it towards something productive, and not let it consume him.

Considering he hadn't worked out this day, Sin decided that it was the perfect time to do so. He channeled his anger, throwing it all at the weights...

After lifting, Sin grabbed himself some dinner, headed back to his room, and began to plan out his next few options moving forward.

Throughout his life, Sin had always given himself time to sit down and think. To plan what was to come next. This was, in his mind, his own way to get ahead in life.

To always be two steps ahead, as some would say.

Having a plan of action made him more confident in his movements going forward. It also gave him a sense of direction, which eventually translated into progression.

Right now, there were a few things Sin had to worry about. The first thing, which was also the most important thing, was to get stronger of course.

With his quest with Ince and the others lined up, gaining power was only a matter of time.

Before then, he didn't have much time to do anything else other than hitting the gym.

Next, money was his second biggest priority. It went hand in hand with power as well. Without money, everything you wanted to achieve seemed futile.

But Sin didn't want money for the fame and status, and the ability to be seen as great by some random bothersome losers. Instead, he wanted the money so that he could use it to get into positions where gaining strength and power was easily accessible.

After gaining power, he wanted others to fear him. To respect him. This way, not only could he never be hurt again due to his immense strength--but he didn't need to worry about having any obstacles in his way or limits on his path.

The next few things on Sin's list of importance were few and far in between. Money was the main thing he wanted to focus on alongside gaining power.

So, for the next couple days before Sin's dungeon quest with Ince's Hunter Group, he decided to figure out the best way to get money in this city...
