Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Meanwhile, the General Commander, who had been following the reactor signal, felt the urge to curse. His silhouette, which had been giving a cold demeanor, got replaced by a vicious one.

It had to be known that it remained just a few meters for them to get towards the fleeing siblings and capture them, but who would have guessed that the reactor would instantly lose its perfectly working signal in just the blink of an eye?

At first, he thought maybe it was because of the underground railway, since it had been a long while since it was used, so he contacted the nearby Headquarters for a quick solution. But to his utmost expectations of the reactor signal being back, he got the opposite response.

Although the headquarters said that, they still didn't want to tell him that there was a faint signal, but it wasn't within their range anymore.

In a large room, seemingly a big office, was filled with a few staff members whose fingers were running through the keyboard at a fast pace. An old man with artificial beards was looking at the big screen projector in front of him, slightly confused.

"Re-run the database and track the signal frequency through the people's phones," he said, still staring at the screen, which was displaying the structural map of the whole city and its neighboring ones around it.

Though the city could be considered an outskirts of the United States, it was still part of the country.

One of the male staff members, who was also in search of the signal frequency, said, "There's a weak signal of the reactor west."

"Are you sure?" he asked, even though he had guessed it through the displayed screen projector; he still needed confirmation.

"Yes, sir, but it seems someone is trying to destroy the tracker," another male staff member said.

"What's the location?"

"Can't pinpoint the exact location, sir, but we can determine the surrounding location," one of the female staff members actively responded.

With that said, the fingers of everyone in the office room began to run fast across the keyboard. Every networking station was in use at this moment.

The headquarters in Gaspé Peninsula was a secret base headquarters itself, located near the shrubs with large farm lands and windmills surrounding it. A first look at it would be said to be an illusion, since it would present itself as a large farm store.

"This feels weird," one of the staff members said, squinting his eyes at the monitor in front of him.

"They are in Quebec," the female staff member who had spoken not long ago said again.

On the large projector screen, a red dot shone vividly, showing on the displayed map before it dimmed.

The not-too-old man, who had received the call from the General Commander, clicked on his phone, dialing the number of the General Commander. The phone was picked up, and a coarse voice could be heard, as it could be observed that the General Commander was very frustrated and tired since he had gone on a thorough search around the underground railway and hospitals, hoping to find the so-much-labeled refugees.

"We recovered the location of the signal frequency briefly at Quebec, and it's not clear, though, but it seemed to be at the west of Quebec," the old man said.

The headquarters here were also employed by the government, so it wasn't surprising that they didn't have much of a reaction when they noticed the sudden change in location of the signal. They themselves were properly trained specifically to track down superhumans using the few gadgets they were given, just as how the army and others were given special weaponry.

"Alright, we'll head down to Quebec. Please prepare another tracker, attachable to the skin, and not too noticeable."

"That'll take twenty hours to make," the man protested.

"Then I'll wait thirty hours, just to be sure of its usage. Also, I couldn't reach the headquarter informant; any news in that?"

"Oh, he seems to be trying to keep a low key while fleeing. But don't worry, we still have many eyes on him."

"Okay, then I await your good news. I'll try to let the sergeants at Quebec be on standby. I assume the news will soon reach them," said the General Commander before hanging up.

Back at Quebec, still in the emergency room, three new faces could be seen dressed to perform the surgery. The previous three people who were in the room were Sonia, Yunli, Shawn, and Vincent, but now the three new people were a man in a lab coat with a name tag "Samuel Forbes" on his lab coat, along with a very young teenager named Adams, and a mature woman with curly hair with the same name tag "Gadhi Lauren" on her lab coat as well.

They proceeded without any further ado. Vincent moved the light ray from the source to the face of the wound. They all had their faces struck with surprise because, in the wound, the tissues could be visibly seenregenerating at an incredible rate.

"Unbelievable," Dr. Forbes whispered, his eyes fixed on the wound.

"The regeneration rate is faster than anything I've ever seen," Dr. Lauren added, her voice filled with a mix of amazement and curiosity.

Adams, the young teenager, looked at Rein's wound with wide eyes.

"Is this...is this because of her powers?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Vincent nodded, his expression serious.

"Yes, Rein's body is capable of regenerating at an incredible rate. But we still need to remove the tracker."

Dr. Forbes nodded, his eyes still fixed on the wound.

"Let's get started. We need to be careful not to damage any of the surrounding tissue."

The medical team began to work in tandem, their movements swift and precise as they carefully removed the tracker from Rein's wound.

As they worked, Vincent couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over him. Rein was going to be okay.

But their work was far from over. They still had to get Rein to safety, and then figure out their next move.

The government was still out there, searching for them. And Vincent knew that they wouldn't give up easily.
