Chapter Six
Jenn's POV
What could be happier than packing for your next trip? Nothing, right?
But honestly, I wasn't that happy. I was still struggling with my first heartbreak—not even a proper heartbreak, really, because the other person wasn't even involved. It was a one-sided crush. Pathetic, I know.
Anyway, I was packing. I had almost stuffed my entire closet into my suitcase, yet somehow I still felt like I needed more clothes. That's when my phone started ringing—it was Jas calling.
"So, cute little piggybun, is the packing done?" she screamed on the other side.
"What the hell is that name—piggybun?" I replied, annoyed.
"You're my piggybunsyrupcake!" she said, laughing hysterically.
"I'm almost done. What about you, Jas?" I asked.
"I'm ready like a soldier who's about to die for her country on the border," she replied dramatically.
We both laughed and ended the call.
We were planning to go to Manila, Philippines, a trip we had been dreaming about for a long time. We were leaving the next day. After finishing the rest of my packing, we had agreed to meet at a nearby coffee shop after lunch.
Once I finished my namaz and lunch, I went to my room to get ready. I was just about to leave the house when I saw Mumma on the phone. She looked a bit tense, but I didn't ask anything—I was running late.
I had to pick up Jas from the gurdwara. We were both quite spiritual and respected each other's religions deeply. Although we came from different faiths, we shared a strong bond. Her full name was Jasmine Kaur, and she honestly looked like a flower to me—beautiful and kind.
I drove to the gurdwara, picked Jas up, and we headed to the coffee shop. We ordered our favorite combo: hot chocolate and a hot brownie. I know, it sounds super sweet—but we were obsessed with desserts.
"So, how are you feeling now, my bubblejam?" Jas asked, holding my hand gently.
"I'd be better if you stop giving me these cringe names," I replied sarcastically.
"That's not happening, my chubby pig," she said while squishing my cheeks.
We laughed, and then she reminded me, "Anyway, let's finish this and go back home. We need to complete the last bit of packing. We have to leave for the airport by 8:00 AM. Our flight departs at 11:30 AM."
I nodded, and after finishing up, we headed back home.
I finished the rest of my packing and went to Mumma's room.
"Can I sleep here tonight?" I asked with my best puppy-dog face.
"Yes, you can, my baby," she said, pulling me into a hug.
We usually went on trips for about a month, so I wanted to snuggle up with her one last time. I was really close to my parents, especially Mumma.
I forgot to set my alarm, but as always, Mumma didn't forget anything. She woke me up with a soft kiss and a warm hug.
"Get up, my baby girl. Get ready and I'll prepare some breakfast for you," she said while kissing my forehead before heading to the kitchen.
I got up and went to my room. I took a long, hot shower—I loved bathing at home, and I knew I'd miss it for the next month, so I took my time. I was always a bathroom singer too, and this was no exception.
After my shower, I got dressed in a pretty navy blue, mid-length floral dress. I did a little makeup, grabbed my bags, and headed to the breakfast table. Mumma was already waiting.
After eating, she hugged me tightly and told me to take care.
"I'll miss you, Mumma," I said with a pout.
Jas was waiting outside in a cab. I loaded my luggage, gave her a hug, and we were off to the airport.
We checked in and boarded the flight. As the plane took off, Jas and I held each other's hands.
"Let's kill this trip!" we both said together.
Then we pulled on our eye masks and drifted off to sleep.
