Chapter 4 - Liu Xue’s Doubts and Wu Jian’s Resolve

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden hue across the village of Xianzhou. Wu Jian walked slowly back from the clearing, the weight of the day's battle still heavy on his shoulders. His body was sore from the clash with the Black Lotus Sect cultivator, but the victory had come with a heavy cost. The power inside him, the Starfall Sovereign, was growing faster than he had anticipated. He could feel it—this strength was both a gift and a curse.

But even as he made his way back to the village, something gnawed at him. Liu Xue. She would be waiting for him. He knew she was worried, but how could he explain to her the immense force that had awakened within him? The battle with the Black Lotus cultivator had been an eye-opening experience, but it had also left him questioning the true extent of his abilities.

He couldn't deny the power that surged through him, but each time he accessed it, he felt a little more detached from the person he had been before. The line between using his abilities for good and losing himself to the darker forces was becoming harder to see.

A Quiet Conversation

Liu Xue was sitting outside the small hut where Wu Jian had lived most of his life, waiting for him. Her arms were crossed tightly over her chest, her expression unreadable as she gazed out over the horizon. Wu Jian's steps slowed as he approached, and he hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to face her.

"Xue..." he called softly, and she turned her head to meet his gaze. There was a flicker of something in her eyes—concern, worry, maybe even fear—but she quickly masked it with a neutral expression.

"You're late," she said, though there was no real reprimand in her voice. It was a soft, gentle observation, but Wu Jian could sense the underlying tension between them.

He sat down beside her, his body still aching from the fight, but his mind sharper than ever. He was trying to piece together everything that had happened over the past day, but all the pieces were still slipping through his fingers like sand.

"I'm sorry," he said, his voice quiet. "I had to deal with something… important."

Liu Xue tilted her head slightly, her gaze never leaving his face. "Important?" she repeated. "You mean the fight, don't you? The one with the Black Lotus cultivator?"

Wu Jian nodded, but it felt like a weight had settled on his chest. He wasn't sure what Liu Xue knew, or what she suspected, but he knew she was watching him closely.

"I had no choice. He came after me, and I had to defend myself." His voice was firm, but it was also tinged with doubt. Even as he said the words, he wondered if he could have handled the situation differently.

Liu Xue's lips pressed together in a thin line. "Defend yourself, huh?" she said, her voice quiet but laced with concern. "What I don't understand, Wu Jian, is why you're involved with people like that in the first place."

Wu Jian looked at her in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"The Black Lotus Sect, Wu Jian!" she said, her tone rising slightly. "They're dangerous. They've hurt people. They don't care about anything but power. Why are you getting tangled up in their business? You've already got enough to worry about with your new powers."

Wu Jian flinched, his mind racing. It was the truth—he had never chosen this path. The power that had awakened inside him, the name Starfall Sovereign, it had been forced upon him, and now he was forced to make choices he hadn't even begun to understand. But still, he couldn't bring himself to back down.

"I didn't choose this, Xue," he said, his voice low. "But I'm not going to run from it. The Black Lotus Sect isn't the only one who's noticed me. There are other sects, other powers that will come for me. If I want to survive, I need to learn how to fight back."

Liu Xue's expression softened, but her eyes still held that flicker of doubt. She took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly.

"I know you're trying to protect yourself, Wu Jian. But you have to understand… this isn't just about you anymore. You're not the same person you were." Her voice was gentle, but it carried an undeniable weight. "You're walking a dangerous path, and I don't want to lose you."

Wu Jian turned his gaze to the ground, his heart heavy. He had always been a simple person. But now, with the power of the Starfall Sovereign coursing through him, he could feel the burden of that responsibility weighing on his shoulders.

"I don't want to lose myself, either." His voice was barely a whisper. "But I have to learn to control this power, Xue. If I don't, I might lose everything."

Liu Xue reached out, placing a hand on his shoulder. The gesture was soft, tender, but it felt like a lifeline in that moment. "Just promise me you won't let it consume you."

Wu Jian met her gaze, his expression determined. "I promise. I won't lose myself. I won't let this power control me."

Liu Xue gave a small nod, her eyes still full of concern, but also trust. "I believe you. Just don't do it alone, okay?"

Wu Jian nodded. "I won't."

A Mysterious Visitor

As the evening settled in, Wu Jian sat in the quiet of the village, trying to center himself. The power within him felt restless, eager to be unleashed, but he knew he couldn't just give in to it. It had to be controlled, honed, or else it would destroy him.

The sound of footsteps broke his concentration, and Wu Jian turned to see a figure walking toward him from the edge of the village. The figure was cloaked in dark robes, their face obscured by a hood. A sudden shiver ran down his spine. He had no idea who this person was, but something about their presence felt... off.

"Are you Wu Jian?" the figure asked, their voice low, yet unmistakably sharp.

Wu Jian stood, his hand instinctively reaching for the energy within him, ready for a fight. "Who are you?" he demanded.

The figure chuckled, a soft, unsettling sound. "I am someone who has been watching you. The power you wield is… impressive."

Wu Jian's eyes narrowed. "What do you want?"

The figure stepped closer, pulling back their hood. Their face was sharp, their eyes glinting with a dangerous light. "What I want, boy, is for you to realize your true potential." They paused, eyeing Wu Jian with a calculating gaze. "The Starfall Sovereign bloodline… it is not something to be taken lightly. You have great power within you, but I can help you master it—if you're willing to listen."

Wu Jian's heart skipped a beat. Another person who seemed to know about his bloodline, about the power he could barely control. He was no longer just a simple farm boy. The more he learned, the more dangerous this world seemed to become.

"Who are you?" Wu Jian demanded again, more forcefully now.

The figure smiled darkly. "I am someone who understands the true meaning of power, Wu Jian. And I can offer you the guidance you need to achieve your destiny. But you must be willing to accept it."
