Glenn Windward and Rowan Windward.
In Petals of Fate, they were the ones with the deepest backstory of all. Originally born into a viscount family, they became part of the Windward household after their mother married Count Wilson-Azure's father. these twins were the final male leads the heroine met after arriving at the capital.
Possessing Earth magic, the two were almost identical yet remarkably different. Glenn, the older, wore glasses and had a composed, intelligent aura. Rowan, on the other hand, carried a cooler and slightly snarkier personality. While they both had brown hair and nearly matching faces, Glenn had green eyes, and Rowan's were a deep brown. They each had a beauty mark under their lips-Glenn's on the left, and Rowan's on the right-with opposite hair parts to mirror each other.
Because of this contrast, fans of the novel (including my sister's obsession with it's fandom) had nicknamed them 'alternate beauties'. Typical fantasy charm.
"What are you saying brother? Why would we push you?" Rowan asked, nervous.
Well, of course they wouldn't admit to it now-they were only twelve. Why would they confess to something so serious?
"Even if you don't admit it, the truth doesn't change, brothers."
I knew what had happened. In Petals of Fate, the twins had later confessed to the heroine, that they were the ones who pushed Azure down the stairs.
'We still regret that day. We were just naive kids. Maybe if we had tried to understand Azure, things would have been different.'
"Whatever happened, you know it yourselves" I said.
Their eyes narrowed. Glenn's expression turned bitter. "It was your fault. You deserved it. Don't you remember how you pushed Rowan off the boat when we were boating? That was payback!"
"I understand... and I'm sorry," I said calmly.
They both looked stunned.
"I realise now how terrible I was to you both. I won't tell anyone what happened, and I won't trouble you anymore."
Honestly, I meant every word. I wasn't interested in causing drama. And besides, I wasn't really angry.
Why would I be?
Yes, technically I was pushed-but it wasn't me who did those awful things. That was the original Azure. I don't even have his memories. And frankly, he did deserve a little push, didn't he?
These kids were only twelve. Meanwhile, I am twenty-two mentally. I should be mature enough to let go.
"You're... not mad?" Glenn asked, baffled.
"I wasn't even hurt when I fell into the lake, but you got really injured," Rowan added.
"I'm not mad. I don't remember anything myself, but from what you have said, I understand that I wasn't a good person to either of you," I replied gently. "Holding onto hate would only make things worse for all of us. I just want to live quietly without causing any trouble. I apologise again, for everything."
I bowed.
Their eyes widened at my unexpected apology. But really, I just wanted to avoid future conflict. I wasn't mad-but that didn't mean I wanted to be bullied again. Keeping my distance was safer for all of us.
"Anyway, it's late," I added with a cheerful smile. "You two should go rest. Good night-and thankyou for visiting."
They exchanged a confused glance.
"G-Good night... Azure," they muttered before leaving.
Once they were gone, the servants re-entered.
"Sir, would you like dinner?" The older woman asked.
"No... I don't have an appetite. You both may retire. I'd like to rest now."
They bowed and quietly exited.
I was alone now. Things had gone... surprisingly well.
Now that I finally had some peace-
Should I try exploring my magic?
