Chapter 7 - Chapter 6 (Hyme)

While those on the planet fight for supremacy, a similar clash occurs within its atmosphere. Spacecrafts are engaging in a brutal battle of attrition, with neither side backing down. Then, there are the stations orbiting the planet. While the ground forces deployed, another force was sent to board these space stations. Despite the initial surprise attack decimating the defense systems, the Cryptids still managed to deploy their fighters to counter the invasion. It was a bloodbath as many Ghost fighters and their troop transport crafts were blown up by the counterattack. Yet, they manage to land their troops, and the fight for the station's control is underway. Upon one of those stations, Hyme and a few other Ecto-Mist members are trying to push their way through heavy resistance. Kinetic and energy rounds fly through the corridor as both sides try eliminating the opposition.

"Get back, Get back!"

Hyme ducks as she hears the sound of a laser round shredding a bit of the end of her ponytail. Her eyebrows furrow as she chambers a new round in before tossing a small orb device which upon landing on the ground materializes a small barricade that gives her a bit more protection from the gunfire that is flying at them from the opposite side of the corridor.

"Cracking!"

A man in gear that looks to be from a wasteland world quickly leaves his cover to throw a grenade which reaches a good distance before it explodes with smoke and shrapnel flying. Several opposing soldiers in more uniformed outfits down the hallway cried out in pain while the others emerged from their cover to return fire. This forces the waste lander to take cover behind the corner wall once more as a shot ricochets off of his shoulder armor.

"What is the status in the rear, Cobalt?" Hyme calls out to him as she lays behind her deployed barricade and tries to give herself a mostly safe positioning.

Cobalt puts two fingers onto his headset and talks into it for a bit before nodding and lowers his hand.

"There are operators locked in cqc on the other side of the western hangar, we're on our own on this end, ma'am!"

"L-low a-a-ammo!" A small shadowy figure who is near Hyme stutters as he fumbles the ejected magazine from his rifle.

Hyme sighs as she fires a shot which takes a chunk off of a soldier's head which causes another soldier near them to flinch. She rolls back behind the barricade just as the spot she just peeked out of begins to get riddled with shots. Looking over, a dark fully clothed individual with smoke coming off of him is shaking as he is patting hastily over his body for seemingly anything to load his rifle with. Hyme whistles stopping him as she gives him a reassuring smile and gestures to the pack that laid close to the corner wall.

"Gareth, deploy that resupply box, don't rush,"

"Y-yes, ma'am!"

The shadowy being proceeds to rummage through the pack before taking out a small container box. Putting it down with shaky hands, he opens it revealing what looks to be like a very compact printer. Taking hold of a cell with energy, he inserted it into a small slot within the container. After a few taps, the machine energizes, making him jump following with a full magazine being materialized. Taking the magazine in hand, the being fumbles a bit before inserting it into his rifle. After charging the handle and taking a very quick, but successful peek shot despite it missing his target, the being seems to relax a little as he looks at Hyme. Hyme nods with affirmation as she pulls the bolt on her rifle and proceeds to load a new magazine for herself. Glancing over, she sees Cobalt leaving his cover and takes a few shots before taking cover as return fire nearly took him out again. Their situation is honestly getting a bit frustrating as she proceeds to try and call out for assistance, only to be returned with white noise and a bit of muffle sounds.

"...Where are Rowan and Lucas, Cobalt? I don't think we can last any longer with a twenty to three ratio,' Hyme lowers her hand from her headset and goes prone again, peeking out from her cover to take aim before laying down some heavy shots which stopped the enemy's attempt advancement, '...make that eighteen to three,"

"Don't know commander,' Cobalt says as he also came out of cover, kneeling a bit as he tries to gain a bit of ground by dropping some cover up front, but a shot skimming his helmet forces him to reconsider that decision, 'they were suppose to clear out the other side a few minutes ago I think,"

Hyme could only mumble something under her breath as she continued to fire down the corridor. As she cycles the expended round with a new one into the chamber, her sensors begin to notify her of nearby activity.

"Seems like reinforcement...we need to push back-"

[Stay down!]

The harsh and cold voice sounds out in their comms device following with the sounds of yelling and panic gunfire. Peeking out from their cover, they were given quite a sight. Operators that have armbands with the Ghost insignia clash with the Cryptid soldiers in a bloody close quarter scuffle. The Cryptids that were holding the three back suddenly broke apart as they were suddenly flanked from a side that they thought should be safe. Within a few minutes, the last body drops to the ground with a sickly thump. From that group who just finished off their opposers, a samurai looking individual along with a disgruntled man wearing a beat up cowboy hat walks over to meet her.

"Is this where I have to thank our saviors?" Hyme gives them a relief expression as she stands up and flicks her rifle's safety to on before walking over to meet them.

" Don't try and talk all appreciatively, what took you so long?" The man with the cowboy hat scowls as he glares down at Hyme, though she is unfazed by this behavior as she slings her rifle to her back.

"Lucas, we talked about this," Hyme simply says as she stares back at him in the eyes.

"...right...is everyone alright?" The pissed off man says in a more controlled tone as he looks away.

"More or less, Cobalt sustained a bit of injuries, Gareth is mostly fine physically,"

"What about you?" He gives a side glance at her.

Hyme shrugs as she looks down at her clothes and gear. Other than a few sears and tear from the firefights as well as a few close calls with shrapnel, she doesn't detect any critical injuries.

"Nothing to worry about," She gives him a reassuring look, though Lucas doesn't seem to agree with her answer. Yet, their conversation is cut short as a dwarf with a shotgun inserts himself between the two.

"We're about to breach deeper into the station to join up with the other forces, are you guys tagging along or...?" his disgruntled face looks between the two as Hyme glances over at Lucas.

Seeing how she is looking at him, Lucas exhales before turning to fully face the dwarf as he also checks his gauntlet.

" Sorry, we're just discussing something small, we'll join you in a bit," He says to which the dwarf just scoffs as he turns to walk away.

"Yeah, well don't take too long!"

The Dwarf hurries off to join his team where they can be seen waiting on an elf who is holding a device in her hand tapping away as she is trying to hack into the door. Hyme looks at the others and nods to them as they were looking from the sidelines awkwardly. Seeing her head gesture, they nod back in silence as Cobalt makes a hand gesture towards the other group. Following his lead, Hyme and Lucas are soon left alone. She slowly unslings her rifle and does a quick inspection of it before she asks her question with his back towards her.

"Couldn't you just...lax up?" She asked concerningly.

"Why? This is war, we need to be on top of our game if we are to win this," Lucas glances back with a frown.

Hyme shakes her head and walks by him, though the sounds of footsteps can be heard as he is following after her.

" What about comms back there? I tried to get in contact with you, but you didn't really answered,"

"...interference,"

" I don't believe you," Hyme stops and looks back at Lucas who just glares back at her.

"Listen, believe me or not, we need to get this done quickly, the longer we take, the more precautions we make, the worse it'll get for the others down below, now lets finish this convo and get a move on,"

Not letting Hyme say another word, Lucas storms past her as he joins up with the group who are standing behind a variety of cover which they were able to set up close to the door as they prepped their weapons and gear ready. Lucas can be seen up there with Rowan who has his katana in hand, both talked a bit before Lucas charges his gauntlet where two barrels emerge from the top of it.

"Lucas..."

Hyme sighs seeing him like this. While she begins to think, Gareth suddenly stumbles over fumbling with a handheld device with an antennae in his hands as he gets in front of Hyme.

"U-um, ground t-t-team, made i-it! V-v-volt confirmed it!"

Hearing this, Hyme gives a warm smile towards the voidling. This seems to calm his nerves slightly as she adjusts her rifle in her hand and gestures towards the large closed metal doors where the others are preparing to breach.

" Good to hear...let's get ready,"

Gareth nods at her response before hurrying away and joins up with Cobalt who hands the voidling his rifle back before pulling his revolver out in preparation. As for the door, the elf seemingly manages to break through the security lock and gives a hand up to the team. Seeing this, Hyme gets behind a few shifted containers and rests her rifle onto it. Taking a deep breath, her finger moves towards the trigger area where it rests onto the safety switch.

"Open it!" The Dwarf grunts as he chambers a shell into his shotgun following with an energy shield forming up in front of him.

The elf nods and presses an icon on their device before detaching it from the panel and hurried to the rear. Exhaling, Hyme flips the safety off following with a pull of the trigger the moment the first Cryptid head is clear in sight.
