I was getting myself ready to went on a family gathering when my phone rang. It was my mom and as I picked up, i answered with annoyance in my voice as she kept on rushing me. 'Yeah yeah yeah I know i know I'm almost ready'. But before I spoke more I heard sobbing and murmuring. I got silent and at the other end of the phone my mom calmly said that we won't be attending the family gathering and that I should went to Mrs Lawson instead. I was puzzled and asked why but mom just calmly asked me to just went there as soon as possible and hung up.
I went there as fast as possible because mom used to rush me everytime but something felt different this time, my hand felt cold and my bones are shaking a little, don't know if it's because I didn't had breakfast.
As I reach their house which is small blocks away from our home, there were some cars parking nearby and some relatives of Mr and Mrs Lawson were there. As I get in I heard a heartbroken cry, some were sobbing, even Mr Lawson. I was really confused about the situation and suddenly my friend Ruthi approached me full of tears and hugged me. Mom look at me pitifully and saw more and more of my friends present but Sophie is out of sight. I gently pushed aside Ruthi and asked, ' Where's Sophie and what's all this'. They remained silent and asked Mrs Lawson, ' Where is she is something wrong mom',(I usually called Mr and Mrs as mom and dad as we were very close because of my friendship with Sophie). Mrs Lawson started tearing up more.
My hands went cold as I look around when nobody answered and went to Sophie room. She's there laying on the bed looking pale with a bruise all over her visible body. I freeze and stood there silently at the corner emotionless. Mom came to me holding my hand crying and said Sophie was no more. My mind went blank. They were consoling me but I could heard nothing more. It felt as if I was the one dying. I no longer exist there and only I could hear was a murmur and sobbing sound. I keep on looking around as if trying to understand what's going on.
Sophie was kidnapped and shortly killed. I never understand how someone will feel and cope with the demise of their loved ones who died by the hands of others, I still don't or is it because I felt numb.
