Chapter 5 - A Night of Change

A few months later, Chantel went into labor and was rushed to the hospital. Hours later, she gave birth to a boy and a girl. Henry stayed with her all night, taking care of both her and the babies. He fell in love with the children the moment they were born. A few weeks later, Henry became the one who cared for the kids, always playing with them and carrying them in his arms before heading to the office.

After a month, Henry realized he loved Chantel again. He confessed his feelings and told her he wanted to adopt the kids and marry her.

Meanwhile, Chantel couldn't shake the thought of the invisible man who got her pregnant. One day, she stood by the window, lost in thought. Henry walked in but she didn't notice. He came up behind her and touched her waist. She smiled and turned to embrace him.

"When did you come in?" she asked.

"A few minutes ago, but you were so lost in thought. What's on your mind?" he replied, holding her hand.

"I keep thinking about that invisible man who got me pregnant and why he did it," she said, worried.

"Are you afraid he might come back for the kids?" Henry asked. Chantel nodded.

"Yes, I am. I don't want that to happen. It could cause big problems for us," she said.

"You don't need to worry about that. I want to marry you legally and adopt the kids," he reassured her.

"Are you worried that if this man shows up, I'd go back to him because he's their father?" he asked, looking directly at her.

"Why would you think I'd do that? I love you. You've been there for me when I needed help. I love you not just because you accept my kids, but because you were my first love. We promised to stand by each other, and I'm keeping that promise," she said, resting her head on his chest.

"I love you too, and I promise I'll never hurt you," he said, making her smile.

Meanwhile, Andrew sat alone, sipping whiskey, thinking about Chantel. Claire walked in and saw him drinking again. Anger rose in her as she rushed to take the glass from him.

"What do you think you're doing?" she yelled.

"If you weren't barren, I wouldn't be worried about another woman taking my kids," Andrew shot back. Claire felt hurt and angry and slapped him hard across the face, tears filling her eyes.

"How dare you call me barren? You promised to stand by me! Now you're making a joke out of me!" she cried.

"Tell me, how are you not barren? It's been months. She must have had the babies by now, and I can't even see my kids. I don't want to see your face until I find Chantel and my kids," he said, storming out.

Claire's mom overheard everything. She rushed to comfort Claire, who was sobbing.

"Did you hear what he said? He wants Chantel and his kids. Why am I always a loser? Chantel took Henry from me when we were kids, and now my husband!" Claire cried.

"Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get your husband back. Don't just sit there crying," her mom urged.

"I'm trying to find her! You know that!" Claire replied, wiping her tears.

"I'm not talking about that. I mean you should plan to have a baby to keep your marriage," her mom insisted. Claire stared at her in disbelief.

"That's not a good idea. Andrew is angry, and I need to let him cool off," she said, feeling angry at the thought of using Chantel.

"I regret ever using Chantel. I need to get out of here and clear my head," she said, leaving her mom behind.

"I promise you, Chantel, I will find you. And when I do, I will make you pay for the pain you've caused my daughter," Claire's mom vowed angrily.

Chantel arrived at the store with a nanny and her kids. After shopping, she walked out, and Claire parked nearby, deep in thought. When she looked up, she saw Chantel and couldn't believe her eyes. Chantel looked well-dressed, and Claire was shocked.

She hid and walked closer to make sure it was really Chantel. When she confirmed it, she felt a mix of disbelief and confusion.

The driver pulled away with Chantel and the kids, and Claire thought, "Could that really be Chantel? How does she have a nanny and a driver?" She saw a store employee walking out and stopped her.

"Excuse me! I wanted to ask about that lady who just left with two kids and a nanny. Can you tell me about her?" Claire asked, trying to sound casual.

"Oh, you mean Miss Chantel? She's a friend of mine," the staff said with a smile.

Claire's heart raced. "I've been looking for her! Do you know her address?"

"I heard Mr. Henry Williams is going to adopt her kids legally. It's great news!" the staff added. Claire's mind raced when she heard Henry's name.

"Thanks for the info," she said, as the staff walked away.

"Henry wants to marry Chantel and adopt the kids? No way! I won't let that happen. Andrew needs to know about this," she said, hurrying back to her car.

As she drove, she thought, "I can't let Chantel have Henry. I'll take the kids away from her and make sure she loses Henry too. I will make her suffer for all the pain she caused me."

Just then, her phone rang. It was her mom.

"Hello, Mom. There's a big problem. I saw Chantel with kids, but the worst part is that she's with Henry. He's ready to marry her and adopt the kids!" Claire said nervously, driving faster.

"Where are you now?" her mom asked.

"I'm on my way to Andrew's office to tell him," Claire replied.

"Good. Come back home when you're done. Chantel will pay for what she did," her mom said, and Claire hung up, determination in her eyes.

Minutes later, she parked at Andrew's office and rushed inside, but was shocked to find him making out with his secretary. She dropped her handbag in disbelief. Andrew looked embarrassed, and the secretary hurried out of the office.
