Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Strange Buyer

He grabbed his glasses from his bedside table and put them on.

He squinted his eyes and felt a throbbing headache. He couldn't feel his left arm; it was completely numb. Damn, did he lie on this arm the entire sleep? It feels like his blood circulation got cut off.

"I'm not even old, why do I have so many body pains after waking up?" He grumbled. He is very healthy, but for some reason, he felt an overwhelming exhaustion tonight.

He looked at his arm, there seemed to be some red marks on it. It looked like he slept pretty well.

He didn't think much of it. Random marks will normally appeared when you don't move during your sleep.

But he seemed to have dreamed of something? He tried to retrieve those memories from the depths of his mind, but it felt like a fleeting smoke, he couldn't grasp anything.

"Ugh, it's probably not important."

He stood up and slipped on his flip-flops.

Then he opened the door and noticed that the room next to him was fully open, he peeked inside and saw there was a woman sleeping. She wore a white nightgown. Even with the passage of time, she still looked stunning.

The floor was littered with randomly thrown high heels, discarded makeup wipes, and her bag.

Cail frowned the moment he entered the room. The smell of alcohol was overwhelming. Just that alone told Cail his mom was blackout drunk.

He picked up the mess on the floor and placed the heels and bag in their rightful place.

He covered the woman with a blanket. Once he was sure everything was fine, he sighed and gently closed the door. He went downstairs and cleaned up all the takeout boxes and cigarette butts off the table.

"When I'm the one making the mess, it's a problem, but if it's her, then that's fine..." Cail huffed, feeling irritated. He cleaned the living room and then checked all the doors and windows. The second he turned the front doorknob, he nearly had a heart attack.

His mom forgot to lock the door. Sooner or later, if this continues, they'll probably be on the news with the headline, 'Mother and son found dead inside their home.'

Once he had confirmed everything was locked, he went back upstairs to his own room.

He jumped in bed and was suddenly overcome by exhaustion. There always seemed to be a weight on his shoulders when dealing with his mom. Shaking his head, he tried his best to push those dim thoughts aside. He walked towards his computer and turned it on.

After a few minutes of staring at the loading screen, he slammed the mouse down, "Why is the wifi so slow?!"

He turned off his computer in frustration. It's probably the rain that's messing with the signal. He tried using his phone; the wifi can't carry online games, but it seemed to be just fine when browsing social media.

After a few scrolls, he felt bored. Hmm, maybe he should start listing some of those jewelry in the marketplace?

He sat up from his bed and grabbed the box underneath. He turned on his lights and opened the box.

Looking at the jewelries, he murmured, "What should I sell? Should I sell them all? Nah. I'll try selling 5 pieces of jewelry first."

He picked up the thick ring with the big red stone on the center, a broken compass, an old coin, a snake-like necklace, and a weird thorn bracelet.

Why did Cail choose those five? Because they looked the most aesthetically displeasing in his eyes. Better get rid of it first.

He put the jewelry on his table and took a picture of all of them. He was not sure as to how to write a description of each product, so he just randomly wrote what he thought.

He never really expected much after he half-assed sold those stuff. He turned off his phone and placed the jewelries back in the box.

He slumped back down on his bed. Sigh, he might as well read some manga since there's nothing else to do.

...

Buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz

Cail opened his eyes. The lights in his room were still on, and in his hand was his phone. He seemed to have fallen asleep again while reading manga.

"How tired am I?" He frowned. He hated the feeling of randomly shutting down like a defective home appliances.

He felt his body sore and heavy. His phone is vibrating like crazy. He turned his phone on, and on his home screen notification were spam-like messages coming from an unknown account.

It's already 3 AM. Who the heck will contact him during these ungodly hours?

Cail picked up his glasses and clicked one of the messages from his notification.

[Deorc]

Deorc: Hey, is the ring still up?

Deorc: You said that the price is negotiable, right? I'll take it for 2000.

Cail blinked.

What? 2000 ru for that ugly-ass ring? At first, he wanted to agree, but then he thought for a moment. This guy Deorc messages him at 3 AM in the morning and offered him a ridiculously high price for the ring. Something doesn't seem right.

He hugged his pillow tight and replied:

An: 2000? That's daylight robbery. I said negotiable, not I'm not that desperate.

Deorc: It's not worth much. Just costume jewelry, right?

If you know it's just a costume jewelry, then why did you offer 2000? You're very sketchy, man.

He looked at the picture that he took of the ring. Yeah, the ring still didn't look good in the pictures. Why's that guy so adamant on buying it?

Cail felt curious at the same time nervous. Goodness, is there something wrong with the ring that he sold? In order to get a better sense of the situation, he decided to do what he's good at, bluffing.

An: No, it's not a costume jewelry.

An: Actually, this is from my late grandfather's jewelry collection. He died a month ago. I need money, so I tried selling it here at the marketplace.

An: If you don't give me a good offer, then this ring is gone by tomorrow. I'll sell it at the pawnshop.

Deorc: No.

Deorc: Don't sell it at the pawnshop. Those guys were deceitful.

An: So are you.

If it were normal circumstances, Cail wouldn't have been this stubborn. But this guy messaged him nonstop at 3 AM and offered him a ridiculously high price for a ring that he deemed ugly.

Either he'll lose a really good deal, or he'll earn more than what he thought he would.

He never expected that ring to sell anyway and he had already accepted that his 7,000 nu was probably gone for good.

He had enough patience and nothing to lose in this negotiation. Besides, since he's bored, he might as well have fun.
