The Echo of the Abyss
The world around them twisted again, the familiar landscape of Eidolon now shattered like broken glass. The light from the Hidden Key flickered like a distant star, out of reach, taunting them.
Sable stood at the edge of the newly-formed abyss, his breath heavy, his body trembling. The virus's final form was now exposed—an entity born from corrupted data, an ancient force that had long existed in the very core of Eidolon, waiting to be unleashed.
"We can't reach it," Ashen said, his voice tense as he stared at the impossible distance. "The Hidden Key… it's too far."
"There's always a way," Nyra replied sharply. "There has to be. This game doesn't just end with us standing here, helpless. We've got this far, haven't we?"
But Sable wasn't so sure. Something about this felt different. The glitch wasn't just a bug; it was alive—feeding on their fear, growing stronger with every step they took deeper into its domain.
The pulse in Sable's veins flickered again, as if responding to his uncertainty. It was the heartbeat of the game, and yet it felt like something more. The closer they got to the Hidden Key, the stronger the pulse became, but so did the darkness—the feeling that something was watching them, something ancient and hungry.
"We need to hurry," Zeke muttered, his hands trembling as he reached for his weapon. "Something's coming."
Before they could react, the ground shook violently, sending them sprawling to their knees. A massive entity rose from the depths of the abyss—its form shifting in and out of focus, like a creature made of pure corruption.
"You cannot escape me," the creature's voice boomed, reverberating through their minds. "You are nothing but data. I will consume everything. Your fear is my power."
The air crackled with static, and for a moment, Sable swore he could hear the screams of other players—dead players—their voices trapped inside the glitch. The virus was no longer a malfunction; it was a hungry god, determined to consume all that had been created in Eidolon.

The Rift of Memories
As the creature loomed over them, something strange began to happen. The world around Sable flickered again, and for a brief second, he saw another place—a real place. He was standing in a room, his fingers brushing the cold surface of a screen, typing frantically.
"Leah!" he shouted, his voice ragged. "Where are you? You have to get out of here!"
But the image was gone as quickly as it came, and Sable found himself back in the game, staring at the creature as it loomed over him.
"Leah…" he whispered, barely able to catch his breath. Was that a memory? Or was it a glitch in the system? Was the game somehow trying to pull him back to his real life?
Zeke looked at him, his eyes wide with fear. "You okay, man?"
"I… I don't know," Sable said, shaking his head. The feeling of déjà vu was overwhelming, and the voice of his sister, Leah, still echoed in his mind.
> "Save me, Sable. You promised. You always promised you'd save me."
The glitch around them warped again, shifting into a vision of Sable's past, distorted and twisted by the virus. The creature's power was reaching into his memories, controlling them, trying to break him down from the inside out.
But before Sable could fall into the abyss of his memories, Nyra's voice cut through the fog.
"Focus!" she commanded. "We have to destroy this thing before it destroys us."

The Choice
The virus, sensing their weakness, surged forward. The ground beneath them cracked violently as the creature advanced, its body now a mass of shifting black energy.
"You cannot fight what you cannot see. I am your fear. I am your past. I am your failure," the creature hissed.
Ashen stepped forward, his eyes burning with resolve. "That's not who we are. You may be part of this game, but you don't control us."
Sable looked at his teammates, his grip tightening on his weapon. The pulse was still there, beating louder and louder within his chest. He knew it was more than just an effect of the game. It was something deeper, something he hadn't fully understood.
He had to find the Hidden Key.
"Stay with me," Sable growled, charging forward, his sword blazing with energy. "We'll fight this. Together."
With a roar, he swung his sword at the glitching form of the creature. The blade cut through the air, but the creature's body split into a mass of data shards, only to reform again with twisted faces emerging from the abyss.
Suddenly, a sharp, high-pitched sound filled the air. The pulse—it was reaching a fever pitch, almost like a warning. Sable knew that this was his last chance. They were running out of time.
"Do it." Nyra's voice was barely audible above the noise. "Use it, Sable. Use the Hidden Key."
Sable looked to the distance, to where the flashing light of the Hidden Key beckoned, just within their reach. It felt like their only hope, but the closer they got, the more they realized… there was no easy escape.
The glitch was evolving, adapting to their every move, and they were running out of time.

The Final Test
As the team pushed forward, their bodies weary from the constant battle, the Hidden Key flickered with a brilliant light, casting the surrounding chaos into stark contrast. They had no choice but to reach it, but would it be enough to break the virus's grip?
Would the final test be the end of Eidolon—or the end of them?
