Kai blinked up at the enormous shadow looming over him. His body still trembled from the heat radiating off Ignarax's molten scales. But the fear that had once gripped him had settled into a strange calm.
"Eat first," Ignarax said, dropping a roasted deer in front of the boy.
Kai hesitated for only a second before tearing into the meat. It was the best thing he had ever tasted.
"So… you're a dragon," Kai said between bites. "A real one."
Ignarax grunted. "Is that surprising?"
Kai wiped his mouth. "A little. I mean… this whole world's still new to me."
Ignarax narrowed his golden eyes. "New? You speak strangely, boy."
Kai shrugged. "I don't remember much… just that I used to be someone else. Somewhere else."
Ignarax stared at him in silence, the lava under his skin pulsing.
"You were born with strange eyes," the dragon finally said. "What do they show you?"
Kai looked up. "I call it True Sight. I can see people's magic. How much they have left, how it moves inside them."
Ignarax's lips curled into something close to a grin. "Then you are not just a lost soul. You have potential."
The days turned into weeks.
Ignarax carved out a training ground in a volcanic crater, where rivers of molten lava flowed through deep cracks in the earth. Here, Kai began his training.
"Start with this," Ignarax instructed. "Fire Dragon Iron Fist. Channel your fire into your arm. Let the flame become an extension of your will."
Kai clenched his fist, focusing. He remembered how Ignarax demonstrated it—fiery magic swirling down the limb like a torrent. Kai's version was a flicker by comparison.
He punched forward, the heat from his knuckles barely strong enough to singe bark.
Ignarax exhaled smoke. "Again."
Kai trained every day. Again and again. Fire Dragon Iron Fist, until his hand was scorched and shaking. His eye helped—he watched Ignarax's flow of magic, trying to mimic it. The lines of energy, the pulse before release.
"You learn fast," Ignarax admitted. "Most children would take months to reach this stage."
Kai grinned. "I cheat. I see things."
A week later, Ignarax stomped the ground and cracked the earth beneath them.
"Now learn Earth Dragon Stomp. You must connect to the land beneath you. Feel its strength. Use it."
Kai bent his knees and slammed his foot into the ground. A tremor, small but real, shook the rocks.
"Not bad," Ignarax said. "You'll learn. Earth magic is about stability, grounding. Fire is chaos. You must balance both."
Kai trained in both styles—strengthening his legs for stomps, building fire through his breath and fists. Sometimes, Ignarax would toss boulders at him. Other times, he would breathe a blast of flame just close enough to force Kai to dodge.
"Why both fire and earth?" Kai asked one night.
Ignarax looked at the lava river beside them. "Because magma is born of both. Fire rages, earth holds. Together, they become something more."
He paused. "The first magma dragon was once a fire dragon. Like my brother."
Kai blinked. "It was ?"
"It bathed in lava. Slept beneath the crust of this world. Changed. Became something else.
Its Flame became denser, its scales hardened. Fire alone could not contain it. It became magma."
"I am a descendant of that dragon from my mother's side"
Kai's eyes widened. "That's… kinda awesome."
Ignarax rumbled a laugh. "Perhaps."
He raised a claw, glowing with red-hot molten magic. "This is Magma Dragon's Claw. Strike with it only when you can merge the elements within you."
Kai watched as the dragon swiped a mountain wall, melting stone like butter.
"I'll learn it," he whispered.
"You will. In time."
That night, as lava lit the darkened skies, Kai sat beside the sleeping dragon.
"Hey… Ignarax?"
The dragon cracked one eye open.
"You mentioned a brother."
"Igneel," the dragon said simply.
Kai's eyes lit up. "Is he like you?"
"He's the Fire Dragon King. Majestic. Proud. A fool, sometimes. But powerful."
"Do you… still talk to him?"
Ignarax closed his eyes again. "Not in centuries. But I've heard things. That he's taken a child to train. A human boy, if he can be called human that is ."
Kai turned his gaze to the night sky.
"Maybe I'll meet him one day."
Ignarax murmured, "Perhaps. If things unfold as I suspect… you might both be needed. This world will change, Kai. A great shadow looms… and I must decide where I stand."
Kai said nothing. The fire crackled, and the wind carried ash like snow.
But something had begun. A path was forming. One that would lead across time, through magic and war, toward a fate tied to dragons, demons, and destiny.

If it is not clear , Igneel and Ignarax are step brothers, same father but different mothers. Will tell more in next chapter.
Current Techniques: Dragon Slayer Arsenal
Fire Dragon's Iron Fist
A staple technique of Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. Kai cloaks his fist in blazing flames and delivers a powerful punch that scorches the target on impact. The heat can melt through metal and stone, making it both a physical and elemental attack.
Earth Dragon's Stomp
A grounded move taught by Ignarax from the Earth Dragon arts. Kai channels his magic into his legs, then stomps down with crushing force, sending shockwaves through the ground. Can destabilize terrain, create fissures, or knock enemies off balance.
Magma Dragon's Claw
A hybrid technique that combines fire and earth into molten fury. Kai coats his hand in superheated magma, increasing both cutting power and searing heat. He launches a claw attack at the opponent. The magma burns through magical defenses and lingers on contact, making it dangerous even after the strike.
