Chapter 26 - Before The Last Sunrise

Theme song:"The Night We Met by Lord Huron"

It had been 61 days since Elian left.

Mira counted them all—not because she wanted to, but because her soul did. Every morning without his voice was a dull ache, every sunset without his hand beside hers a quiet war.

London looked the same.

But she wasn't the same girl who once spilled coffee on a stranger and called it fate.

She walked differently now—slower, more cautious, like the wind might carry away the pieces she hadn't managed to stitch back together.

Elian was gone.

But he was everywhere.

[Excerpt #1 – Letters to the Sky]

On the rooftop of their old flat, Mira still left folded paper cranes. One every Sunday. Each had a small note tucked into its wings.

> "It rained today. You would've made a joke about the sky having feelings."

"Your sweater still smells like you. I haven't washed it."

"I saw a dog today that looked like the one you always wanted."

"I miss you. I miss you. I miss you."

She never signed them.

She knew he'd know.

[Excerpt #2 – Brighton, One Last Time]

It took her months to go back to Brighton.

The beach was quieter than she remembered. Or maybe the silence was inside her.

She sat where they once danced barefoot under the stars, toes in the cold sand, their laughter louder than the waves.

She brought his scarf.

She brought his favorite book.

And as the tide rolled in, she whispered, "You were the best chapter."

Then she stood up, turned around, and walked away—eyes burning, but not crying.

Not yet.

[Excerpt #3 – A Letter He Left Behind]

In the drawer of his bedside table, between the pages of her favorite poetry book, she found it.

A letter. His handwriting. Shaky, but his.

> Mira,

If you're reading this… I guess the stars were calling.

I'm not afraid. Not really. Because I loved you. Truly. And that's more than most people get in a lifetime.

Don't stop dreaming.

Don't stop watching the sky.

And when you smile again, know I'm somewhere smiling too.

You were my before. You are my always.

— Elian

She wept then.

Not like the quiet, silent tears she'd grown used to.

But like the sky finally opened and cried with her.

[Final Scene – The First Sunrise]

The first time she smiled again was in June.

She had just opened the café. A little girl spilled juice on her dress and apologized with a flower.

Mira looked outside. The sun had just risen. The sky—orange, golden, alive.

She closed her eyes.

She felt him.

And for the first time since that hospital room…

She said goodbye.

Not to forget.

But to finally live.

Before the last sunrise, she had lost him.

But after it, she had found herself.
