Chapter Seven: "The Unexpected Offer"
It was a Wednesday when Andra received an unexpected call. She'd just finished class and was heading out the door when her phone buzzed. She saw the name, and for a moment, her stomach dropped.
It was Parker.
She had no intention of answering it. But for some reason, she did.
"Hey," his voice was soft, almost apologetic. "I've been thinking a lot about things... and I know I've let you down. I'm sorry."
She leaned against the wall, taking a deep breath. "What's going on, Parker?"
"I've got a friend who owns a photography studio. They're looking for an assistant—part-time, but it pays well. I could put in a word for you. Maybe it'll help with the bills."
She almost laughed. It wasn't the first time he'd offered help, but she knew how hollow those offers often were.
"That's... thoughtful," she said, her voice cautious. "But I'm doing fine. I don't need your help."
"I know you don't," Parker replied quickly. "But this is something I can actually do for you. Please. Just think about it."
For a moment, Andra didn't respond. She had the job at the café and the tutoring, but the idea of working at a photography studio was appealing. The money would be steady. And she wouldn't have to deal with Parker directly if she took the job.
"Okay," she said finally. "I'll think about it."
