Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: Rejection

Points could only be gained by decomposing talent entries.

Izayoi had learned this at three. Back then, to plausibly linger near the Hyuga clan, he'd befriended a group of kids and played ninja games with them. His popularity drew envy, leading to scuffles with some peers.

A few of those kids had white-tier Ninja Aptitude entries. After claiming them, the system prompted: fuse or decompose. Decomposing them yielded twenty-five points total, each white entry granting a random single-digit amount.

Now, decomposing a purple-tier entry had netted him a four-digit sum.

Even blue-tier entries could be upgraded.

"How many points does a blue-tier upgrade require?" Izayoi wondered, curiosity driving him to tap the plus sign beside Chakra Control.

His panel shifted instantly.

[Host: Izayoi]

[Talent Entries: Otsutsuki Bloodline (Red), Super Kage Potential (Gold), Kekkei Genkai: Byakugan (Purple), All-Attribute Constitution (Purple), Chakra Control (Purple), Medical Genius (Blue)]

[Points: 793]

Chakra Control had leaped from blue to purple. The plus sign vanished from Medical Genius, and his points dropped by 999.

"Talent tiers are White, Green, Blue, Purple, Gold, Red," Izayoi mused. "Decomposing white entries gives single-digit points randomly; purple gives four digits. Upgrading blue to purple takes a three-digit maximum—999. Is it random or fixed?"

He continued silently, "If fixed at the maximum, does that mean white to green is 9 points, green to blue 99, blue to purple 999, purple to gold 9,999, gold to red 99,999, and red to an unknown tier 999,999?"

Izayoi didn't know. He lacked low-tier entries or excess points to test.

Even with surplus points, he wouldn't waste them on lesser entries. Beyond unique ones like Byakugan or Chakra Control, he had no interest in upgrading anything below red.

Awakening the Tenseigan would grant him an arsenal of dimension-crushing techniques. Mastered fully, it promised Six Paths-level power.

A single dojutsu could carry him to Shippuden's final battle.

Rather than squander points on trash entries, he'd save them for the Otsutsuki Bloodline. Upgrading it would match the purity of alien Otsutsuki, potentially unlocking new Rinnegan variants, Karma, or divine techniques.

But these were mere speculations—far off for now.

September 1st arrived.

The Ninja Academy began its second semester.

Izayoi attended in person this time, but only for afternoon classes. Mornings remained academic, while afternoons added taijutsu sparring to P.E. and shuriken throwing.

Unfortunately, Iruka Umino assigned sparring partners randomly. Izayoi didn't draw Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, or Hinata.

"Iruka-sensei, can I request to fight Sasuke?" Izayoi asked when he heard about the random matchups, eager for a shot at Sasuke.

Iruka hesitated but shook his head. "Taijutsu sparring doesn't allow special requests. Its purpose is to prepare you for real enemies—some equal, some weaker, some stronger. You need to adapt to balanced fights, crushing victories, and crushing defeats. Grow through struggle, savor achievement in wins, and learn from the bitterness of loss."

"I understand, Iruka-sensei."

Seeing Iruka's resolve, Izayoi didn't push.

He planned to challenge Sasuke after school instead.

But Sasuke's response left Izayoi's mouth twitching.

"Sasuke, up for a spar?"

"Sorry, not interested. I need to get home to train," Sasuke replied. Not yet the vengeful loner of later years, he wasn't as aloof as in the original story but still declined firmly, jogging off eagerly.

After the Nine-Tails' attack, suspicion fell on the Uchiha as its orchestrators, forcing their clan to relocate from central Konoha to the Naka River's edge. Without Body Flicker, Sasuke faced a trek home from the academy.

His only thought was training with his brother, leaving no time for Izayoi.

Before Izayoi could taunt the Uchiha name to provoke a fight, Sasuke was gone.

Izayoi sighed, exasperated.

He didn't pivot to challenge Naruto. Though the year-end exam to crown top student hadn't occurred, Naruto's first-semester scores already marked him dead last.

Even the weakest students knew how to say "chakra." Naruto, even after graduation, would mispronounce it, his academic scores as abysmal as his blank or scribbled Chunin Exam papers.

Slightly malnourished, his P.E. grades were below average, too.

As an honor student, Izayoi challenging the class dunce would draw scrutiny from the Anbu, perhaps even Hiruzen Sarutobi or Danzo Shimura, who kept tabs on Naruto.

Hiruzen was manageable, but Danzo might suspect Izayoi knew secrets or was a pawn sent to approach Naruto. To avoid complications, they could take drastic measures, leaving Izayoi in a precarious spot.

That wasn't his goal.

For now, his targets remained Hinata and Sasuke.

Rejected by Sasuke, Izayoi didn't cling or pester.

It was September, Konoha 54. Three months until year's end.

Next year would bring the Uchiha clan's massacre, courtesy of its filial son. As a vengeful survivor, Sasuke would surely accept Izayoi's challenge then.

So the next day, Izayoi attended in person again but didn't request to fight Sasuke or challenge him after class.

Matching against Naruto or Sasuke would be ideal, but other classmates weren't bad either.

This class, beyond two future saviors of the ninja world, included the new Ino-Shika-Cho trio and the sensory team. Every student had at least a white-tier Ninja Aptitude entry.

Each offered entries—even white ones decomposed into single-digit points. The Nine Rookies boasted blue, purple, gold, and red entries.

Claiming any would be a massive gain.

Unsure if Shadow Clones could claim entries, Izayoi couldn't skip afternoon classes.
