Chapter 6 - Sparrow Interview

Dayas and Scorpy arrive at the train station in the morning to find their brother Luno waiting for them with a frowning face. The brothers approach their older brother, hugging each other, and after their brotherly embrace, Dayas says to Luno:

"Luno, I haven't seen you in a while. How is your family?"

Luno, with a stern look:

"You in particular have no right to ask such questions."

Dayas:

"Big brother, as harsh as always... So may I ask why you called us?"

Luno:

"I don't have time; we'll talk at home."

Then he turns, winking at Scorpy, and adds:

"Come on, we need to hurry; I'm waiting for someone else who must have arrived by now."

Scorpy, smiling slightly:

"Yes, we need to hurry."

The three brothers arrive home shortly after, and Luno knocks on the door, which is opened by a beautiful tall woman with pointed ears and large wings resembling those of a butterfly. The woman says to Scorpy, upon seeing him with joy:

"Scorpy, welcome! I'm so glad to see you."

But then she notices Dayas, and her expression changes as she coldly says:

"Oh, and Dayas is with you too. Come in.

Dayas, Scorpy, and Luno enter the house while Luno's wife goes to her kitchen. Scorpy sarcastically remarks to him:

"Bad luck today, Tiana is the one who opened the door."

Dayas:

"Yes, she's the one who hates me the most among his wives."

Scorpy:

"Maybe it's because of that heavy joke of yours when she first visited our house."

Dayas:

"Do you mean that joke when I told her that her ears look like those of our old goat? Ugh, no... I think what really bothered her back then was me offering her some insects to eat."

Scorpy:

"Ugh, that was a harsh joke but I really laughed."

Dayas:

"Oh, that wasn't a joke."

Scorpy:

"Brother, you know that droopy ears are a sign of magical lineage, right?"

Dayas:

"It wasn't because of the ears, it was because of the wings."

Scorpy:

"And butterflies don't eat insects."

Dayas:

"I was young back then, and I don't like biology."

While they were like that, Luno called out to them, saying:

"Hey, Dayas, Scorpy, come here, I have a surprise for you."

The two friends headed to the living room, responding to their brother's call, but upon entering, Dayas was surprised to see an unexpected guest sitting on the couch. He exclaimed excitedly:

"Hey, it's the traitor."

But unlike his brother, Scorpy approached the guest, welcoming him as he said:

"Uncle Simi, welcome! Dayas and I have been looking for you all this time."

Simi replied to Scorpy, saying:

"And that's why I'm here now."

A relatively large bird compared to other birds, with light gray feathers and a white face, wearing a classic long hat and a bow tie, said that and then turned to Dayas, adding:

"Oh, and you, I know what happened to you last night."

Dayas, astonished, replied:

"Really! But how?"

Simi, boasting, said:

"Ha, as you know... my sources never run out."

Dayas, reproaching, said:

"And do you know what I know... I know that you broke your promise to my father."

Simi the bird replied calmly while returning to his seat:

"I have never leaked any news during my career that I promised not to leak, especially if that promise was to my close friend, Friderin."

Dayas:

"But I heard the two men in front of the academy when they said..."

And before Dayas finishes his sentence, Scorpy interrupts him, saying to Luno:

"Aah Luno, I forgot to tell you, they expelled Daius from the academy, don't tell my mom, okay?"

Dayas:

"Why does everyone keep revealing my secrets? Didn't you promise me not to tell anyone?"

Scorpy:

"No, I promised you not to tell my mom."

Luno, angrily:

"Hold on, expelled from what?... I'm the one who will tell my mom."

And while the brothers are busy arguing, Dayas's shadow starts moving on its own, heading to the backyard garden, and Luno exclaims in surprise:

"Is that Alnidor?

Everyone follows Alndor to find him playing ball with two small children, and Luno, in disbelief, says:

"He doesn't look like he used to, he has become... kinder."

Dayas, bragging:

"Yes, he is at my disposal."

Luno:

"You managed to tame him!"

Dayas, smiling:

"And look at him now, he's playing with your kids."

The two children notice Scorpy, Dayas, and Simi, and they rush over to Simi, happy to see him. Dayas says, annoyed:

"Oh, lovebirds."

Alnidor shakes his head in agreement with Dayas, showing his own annoyance, and Simi replies with a smile:

"That's not the reason; they just love Uncle Simi more."

At that moment, another beautiful woman calls out to them, holding a baby in her arms, saying:

"Dear, lunch is ready."

Luno:

"Thank you, dear, we're coming."

Dayas to Scorby:

"Good, Christian made lunch; she's one of the few who doesn't hate me."

Scorpy, smiling sarcastically:

"I'm sure all three of them made it."

Dayas, rolling his eyes:

"Damn."

Everyone starts to leave, but suddenly a familiar yellow flash glimmers above Alnidor, and then Shiny appears, holding a strange yellow box in his arms, saying:

"It finally appeared; I've been waiting for you since dawn."

Shiny continues his speech, throwing the box at Alnidor, causing it to open its lid by itself, pulling him inside, and adds:

"Don't worry, my son; we'll talk at home."

Dayas to Shiny:

"Hey you, what are you doing?"

Shiny:

"After thinking it over, I concluded that Alndor is my son, so I will take him."

Dayas:

"Your son! How?... Oh wait, I get it, good joke... Alright, enough fooling around now, let him go."

Shiny:

"Alnidor was born when I... uh, I mean borrowed your feelings, so based on that, it's clear he's my magical offspring, and as you know, magic in our world is a recognized physical element by everyone, so legally he is my son."

Dayas becomes furious upon hearing Shiny's words, and Scorpy notices this, saying to himself:

"I've never seen Dayas this angry before; in fact, I haven't seen him angry since we were kids."

Dayas takes a deep breath, regaining his composure, then replies calmly:

"You want to take Alndor from me too! You have no idea what I am capable of."

Shiny, sarcastically:

"Ha ha ha, is that a threat! I'm a cosmic being, little one, what could you possibly do?"

Shiny says these words and then disappears, leaving Dayas in his anger. Scorpy approaches him, trying to calm him down, saying:

"Hey, my friend, calm down, we will try to convince him..."

Dayas interrupts Scorpy, adding:

"I wish to go to the cosmic court."

Everyone is surprised upon hearing Dayas, shocked by his wish, as Scorby moves closer to him and says:

"Have you lost your mind! The cosmic court is a sacred place, your wishes can't make that happen; they are weaker than..."

And before Scorpy finishes his sentence, suddenly one of the star scars on Dayas's chest glows strongly, taking him and Scorpy to a courtroom where everything is of enormous size. Scorpy turns to Dayas, exclaiming in astonishment:

"It actually worked! What new disaster have you gotten us into!"

Dayas, with an indifferent serious expression:

"The feeling of injustice is a very strong feeling, and the oppressed usually seeks justice in court to reclaim their rights; perhaps that is what enabled the wish to take us here."

Suddenly, a loud and rough humming sound echoes from behind them, followed by someone saying:

"Ahem, who are you boys?"

Dayas and Scorby cautiously turn around to be shocked by a huge, imposing alien judge wearing a gray mask that reveals only his eyes, sitting on the judges' platform behind them. Dayas confidently steps forward, responding:

"I am here to present a cosmic case against the one known as the cosmic star Shiny for stealing my feelings and kidnapping my shadow."

The cosmic judge responds eagerly:

"A case! Finally some excitement... no one has complained here since the last session."

Scorpy, afraid, asks the judge:

"Why hasn't anyone complained here since the last session?"

The cosmic judge replies nonchalantly:

"Maybe because we sentenced both to death."

Scorpy's fear increases as he says:

"Who do you mean by both?"

The cosmic judge laughs:

"Oh ho ho, I mean the perpetrator and the victim, of course."

At that moment, Luno and Simi are still standing in Luno's garden, with Simi flapping his wings as he leaves, saying:

"Thank you for the hospitality, I have to go."

Luno, worried:

"Simi... please, bring them back safely."

Simi the bird:

"It's a bit difficult, but don't worry, I'll do my best."

Then he adds to himself:

"This seems like a good scoop."
