Chapter 5 - What If I Am From A Wealthy Family?

Janice had just finished her work and returned to the TV station when her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen and saw that it was Gladys.

This wretched woman. Hadn't she already made it clear yesterday that she was married? What else did she want?

Janice picked it up with a frown.

"Janice, do you think we can't do anything to you just because you're married? You'd better pray that this man is tough enough, or I'll find a way to make him beg for mercy."

On the other end of the phone, Gladys shouted loudly.

Just as Janice was about to ask what she meant, Gladys ended the call.

What tough man, what begging for mercy?

"Has Gladys gone crazy?"

Janice hung up the phone perplexed, but she felt that something was wrong.

Wait, was she talking about Christopher?

Could Gladys have found Christopher?

But what did she do with him?

Thinking about it, Janice was a little worried, so she called him.

In an opulent and stylish office, Christopher sat staring at the information sent by Rob. His eyes narrowed dangerously.

No wonder she wanted to marry him in a hurry, despite not knowing about his background. It was because of this.

Christopher looked at the detailed information in his hand, and he frowned in deep thought.

Suddenly, the phone beside him rang. When he saw that it was Janice, his eyes softened and he picked it up.

"Christopher, did my stepmother look for you just now?"

Janice gushed from the other end of the phone.

Christopher's eyebrows twitched slightly. It seemed that the woman couldn't gain the upper hand in front of him and she went to find Janice after. He nodded and said, "She did come to find me."

"What did she say? Did she do anything to you?"

Janice sounded a little nervous.

Christopher did not know what to think.

"As a man, couldn't he handle a woman?"

"She said she'll give me fifteen thousand dollars to divorce you," Christopher said truthfully.

"What?" Janice suddenly stood up. She didn't expect Gladys to be so ruthless that she even used such a dirty trick.

"Then... did you agree?"

When she asked this question, Janice was very nervous.

After all, people were realistic. In addition, they had no basis for love in their marriage.

Even if he chose money, it seemed to be understandable.

Thinking of this, Janice became more agitated.

Hearing the question coming from the other side of the phone, a trace of anger flashed across Christopher's eyes. She actually questioned his loyalty. A weird thought popped into his head.

Christopher curled his lips.

"I... I'm thinking about it."

"You ... how can you do this? You are my husband, you... you can't promise her. It's only fifteen thousand, not a lot."

Sure enough, Janice panicked.

What if Christopher really divorced her? The Walters might not be willing to marry a divorced woman, but since Gladys had come up with this move, she must have her own reason.

Besides, they didn't really consummate their marriage last night.

Janice was very worried.

Christopher frowned. She really couldn't be teased. He smiled and said.

"You silly girl, I was just teasing you. How could I be dismissed for just fifteen thousand dollars?"

Upon hearing what he said, Janice finally breathed a sigh of relief. However, she was still a little anxious.

"Then... then how much do you want? Will you agree if she gives you more?" Janice bit her lips. "Please, don't be a greedy man. Otherwise, what should I do?" "That depends on how much she offers." Christopher suddenly felt that this little

woman was very frustrating, she dared to doubt him again and again.

...

"..." Janice was a little angry. Well, it turned out that no man was not greedy for money. It was ridiculous that she thought she had married a good guy. However...

"Well, there is one thing more attractive to me than money."

While Janice was feeling disappointed, Christopher suddenly said.

"What?"

Janice asked in a hurry.

"I'll tell you when you come back tonight." Christopher's deep and sexy voice came into Janice's ears through the phone.

Strangely enough, his words seemed quite normal, but somehow, she got goosebumps all over her body.

However, what was more attractive to him than money?

Janice remained confused for the whole day. When it was time to leave work, her phone rang. It was Christopher.

Janice was about to call him as well, so she picked up the phone in a haste.

"I'm at the door."

"At the door?"

As Janice walked out, she saw Christopher.

Thinking of his previous words on the phone, Janice felt different when she saw him again. She couldn't be deceived by his innocent appearance.

She must find out what he was thinking, otherwise, he would be a hidden danger around her.

After thinking for a while, Janice walked over and asked, "How long have you been here?"

"I've just arrived," Christopher said.

"Then let's eat first," Janice said with a lukewarm attitude while opening the car door.

Christopher frowned. She took those words seriously!

He fastened his seat belt and said to Janice who was about to start the car, "Let me decide where to eat."

Janice paused for a moment and nodded in agreement.

Twenty minutes later, Christopher guided Janice to a tall building.

Janice looked at the grand decoration, quivering with shock. Then she said, "This place is too high-end. Even if I sold myself, I couldn't afford a meal there. Let's go somewhere else."

As she said that, she was about to turn the car around.

Christopher stopped her and said, "Don't worry, I won't sell you for a meal."

He blinked his charming eyes. Somehow, looking into his eyes, Janice inexplicably believed in him.

"Forget it. At worst, I can use my credit card," Janice thought.

When the two entered into the restaurant, a waiter came over to lead the way. Soon, they came in a magnificent private room.

Janice sat down with a chill going up and down her spine.

Moreover, when she saw the prices, she felt even colder.

"Christopher, we'd better leave. This really isn't a place that we can afford."

While the waiter was not paying attention to them, Janice quickly whispered.

She was afraid of being laughed at by others so that she deliberately lowered her voice.

Christopher also lowered his voice.

"Don't worry. There's a lucky draw here today."

Janice mocked, "How can you believe in this kind of thing? What if we can't win the prize?"

"I'm always a lucky man, don't worry." Christopher winked at her.

Standing aside and hearing their whispering, the waiter tried so hard not to laugh.

This couple was really interesting.

"This gentleman has just given our manager a Supreme Gold Card: the highest-end card in the restaurant industry in Tomaville," the waiter thought.

Janice could not persuade him, so she compromised. But she was still worried and secretly sent a WhatsApp message to Yvonne, asking her to get ready to rescue them.

"Well, what exactly is more attractive to you than money?"

After they finished ordering, the waiter left. Janice then asked Christopher this important question again.

...

Christopher said, "Let's eat first."

"...Well." Janice agreed to talk about that later.

When all the dishes were served, they were almost finished as well. Janice was speechless when she looked at the bill.

Well... she would become bankrupt because of this husband tonight.

Janice slowly took out her credit card from the wallet and called the waiter.

The waiter smiled and said, "Congratulations on winning the lucky draw. Your dinner today is on the house."

"Free of charge?"

Janice was too shocked to say anything. She didn't expect that an unlucky person like her, who had never won a single contest since she was a child, would suddenly win this of all things.

It was really a windfall.

"Am I right?" Christopher blinked at her significantly.

Janice was speechless.

When they walked out of the restaurant, Janice still felt unreal. However, she didn't know that Rob Hanson quietly came to pay the bill after they had left.

Looking at the bill, Rob frowned. It was rather strange for the ultra-rich Mr. Bateman to pretend to be poor.

At home.

Janice immediately plopped down on the sofa because she was so full. Since this meal was free of charge, they could not pack up any leftovers. She didn't want to waste food so she ate the rest of the dishes. Now, her stomach now swelled like a balloon.

It was so uncomfortable!

Christopher poured a glass of water and came over with antacid. "Take it. If it doesn't work, we'll go to the hospital."

Upon hearing that they were going to the hospital, Janice quickly sat up. "No. I will be fine after two pills of this."

To the hospital? It would cost a lot money.

Staring at his wife who was lying on the sofa, Christopher was speechless. He just wanted to take her to have a good meal, but he didn't expect her to be so honest and eat so much.

"By the way, you said you would tell me at night. What on earth is it?"

When she felt better, Janice remembered to ask Christopher that question.

Hearing her question, Christopher who was sitting next to her suddenly turned around and placed his hands on her shoulders. He approached her and his burning eyes looked into hers.

Feeling the strange atmosphere, Janice quickly leaned back and said, "You..."

Christopher kissed her lips. His naked gaze caused Janice blush. After a while, she

realized that he was...

"You..."

Looking at her vacant look, Christopher hooked her nose in a good mood.

"Honey, you are my wife. Will I leave you just for a small sum money? If you doubt me again, I will have to punish you."

Christopher's reproachful tone confused Janice.

"He... he is telling me that he won't leave me for money?" Janice thought.

Although it was just a verbal promise, Janice trusted him. She believed that he would keep the promise.

"Thank you, Christopher. Now that you have promised me, I'm willing to support you for the rest of my life."

Janice said definitively.

"Supporting me for the rest of your life?"

Christopher looked at her in slight confusion.

Then Janice realized that she had said something wrong. She immediately explained, "Don't get me wrong. I didn't mean that. In fact, it doesn't matter if you don't have a job. I don't mind. I care about your feelings more than your career."

"Although now there are many materialistic girls, not all of us are like that. Compared with those people from wealthy families, ordinary people like you make me feel more reassured."

Janice was afraid that her words would hurt his self-esteem, so she tried to remedy it.

However, Christopher looked at her happily.

"What if I'm from a wealthy family?"
