Chapter 3 - The Frist mile

Garrett walked alone through the town, the shitty old rundown town. Garrett was still angry about the move he had to leave everyone he knew in New York behind. Plus somebody even went missing near this shitty town in the '80s so why would they even want their kids to move there. sadly school would start soon because for some reason, the school district here thought it would be a good idea to start in the middle of summer. It was like Texas all over again but there were more drug addicts and More Creeps, again a bottom of the barrel shit show town.

the walk was short to the school, short by their standards, he had to walk 2 miles to get to school because sadly over the summer his bike chain broke and they couldn't find a new one.

" I fucking hate it here it's so fucking hot," Garrett whispered to himself angrily " I have no friends here, so I'm basically a fucking nobody "

Then the crash was like a chaotic car crash but on a minor scale, not only did he get hit by a bike he got dog piled on by somebody. it's probably some stupid old person riding their bike, when he got up it wasn't, it was a boy around his age with long curly silver hair and green eyes.

"oh my gosh I'm so sorry are you okay " he asked in a quick Panic tone, Helping him up.

"hi I'm Patrick Samuels, I haven't seen you around here before, " he said, knowing what's coming next Garrett dreaded responding " are you from that family who just moved in up the hill."

"yep that's me, let me guess you're one of our neighbors. " Garret said in a tired tone, he hadn't slept all night cause he was dreading today.

"Yeah my family is pretty important here, we own a huge dairy farm, " He said " Hey we're throwing a party after school at the creek you're invited if you want to come. "

"Sure my mom wants me to get out and meet people yeah, you want my phone number "

Garret gave him his phone number on a sheet of paper, and they walked together to school that day. turns out they had a lot in common and they quickly became friends. They eventually reached the school, a large old brick building with a sign on it that read " Rockmill Public High School".

Thankfully Patrick and Garrett had the same exact schedule so he would pretty much just get a free place to sit at lunch. They walk to their first class together, homeroom. They sat down in the back in the right corner next to each other. Their teacher was a tall skinny middle-aged woman named Mrs Sharppe.

"Good morning class, " she said.

Her voice was raspy and at the same time high pitched, she spoke with a Southern accent compared to a majority of the people's New England accent.

" For the first day of school this class will be a free period. Do what you want, just don't go on your phones."

Roughly 10 minutes into the period a large beep came into the classroom. It was the intercom being turned on for the morning announcements.

" Good morning Spartans, please stand for the flag salute." A female voice said over the intercom.

Of course the first thing on the morning announcements was the Pledge of Allegiance, it was the same as other schools. There were various topics such as the lunch menu, the temperature and birthdays. For some reason there was going to be a pep rally to celebrate the beginning of school. In Garrett's mind it is not something to celebrate about, starting over was going to be hell for him. Thankfully it was going to be a little more manageable because he had Patrick, he was in good hands socially because he was friends with Patrick, or the fact that he had a friend was comforting to him. The rest of the day was grueling, it was brutally hot inside of the school because the AC was broken, and it was hotter inside the gym. The rally was ridiculously long It was so loud that it caused Garrett's ears to bleed. The worst part was the national anthem performance, they had a youth choir performance. They were off key and their voices are like nails on a chalkboard to Garrett.

Finally the day was over. They released everybody straight from the gym so it was a challenge not to get trampled but somehow Garrett survived. There was only one thing on his mind now, the party at the creek, finally it was his time to shine. Garrett went home barely awake, wrenched and sweaty and his cheeks were covered in some dried up blood. He went home and took a shower, an ice cold one that felt like rain in Antarctica. He then put on some clothes he would wear to the party and lay on his bed and took a nap. He was set for 5:00 p.m. so he would know when to leave.

in bed he had a dream. a strange surreal dream. and the dream he saw a creature, or was it human, he couldn't know, or was it someone he used to know. it spoke to him in some Eldritch language he couldn't understand or even comprehend as a language. It was like something was calling to him from Beyond the Veil of Reality, was it trying to tell him the secrets of the universe, or that he forgot to eat his egg salad sandwich at lunch. As soon as it started, it ended with Garrett waking up covered in sweat. It wasn't enough to stop him from going to a party. a party that would let him fit in with the town.

Garrett's older brother Wyatt knew the creek like the back of his hands even though they just moved there. he was the one that would take him to the party, it was already discussed. Wyatt and Garrett walked through the woods to the creek where the party would be, it took them 10 minutes to get there but it was worth it. the smell of cigarette smoke and roasting sausages filled the area as the sound of acoustic guitar music filled the air. It was going to be a campout party.

"Yo Garrett!" Patrick screamed as soon as he saw his friend. This was going to be the start of a crazy night.

the group consisted of five boys that included Garrett and Patrick, and six girls. They did typical stuff you would do at a campout, they told scary stories, swam and listened to acoustic guitar music played by Alex, one of the most beautiful girls there. Alex would be what sets Garrett down this dark path
