Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Game of Control

Ruhi wasn't the type to sit back and let herself be played. If Abhi thought he could make her jealous, she would show him that she wasn't the kind of girl to be affected by his little games.

But then why did his words still echo in her mind? A little jealousy looks good on you, Ruhi.

She hated how effortlessly he got under her skin. And she hated even more that she was letting it happen.

Determined to regain control, she walked into the library, spotting Abhi at one of the study tables. He was alone for once, casually flipping through a book, looking completely unbothered. As if their conversation earlier hadn't happened at all.

Fine. Two could play this game.

Ruhi strolled over, placing her books on the table with a deliberate thud. Abhi glanced up, amusement flickering in his dark eyes. "Well, look who decided to bless me with her presence."

She ignored his teasing tone and sat down across from him. "I actually came here to study, not to entertain your oversized ego."

Abhi smirked, leaning back in his chair. "That's a shame. My ego was really looking forward to it."

Ruhi rolled her eyes, flipping open her textbook. She wasn't going to engage. She was going to be calm, collected-

"By the way," he interrupted her thoughts, "I heard you've been spending a lot of time with Rohan lately."

Ruhi blinked, caught off guard. "Rohan? He's just a friend."

Abhi hummed, tapping his fingers against the table. "Oh, I don't doubt that. But he doesn't see it that way."

She frowned. "And how would you know?"

"Because," he said smoothly, "I see the way he looks at you."

Ruhi crossed her arms. "And what way is that?"

Abhi leaned forward, lowering his voice. "Like he wants to be more than just a friend."

A slow smirk crept onto Ruhi's lips. "What's wrong, Abhi? Jealous?"

For the first time, his expression faltered-just a fraction, but enough for her to notice. He quickly recovered, flashing his signature grin. "Not at all. Just warning you that Rohan's not as subtle as he thinks."

Ruhi studied him, trying to decipher the truth behind his words. Was he really not jealous? Or was he just better at hiding it than she was?

Before she could respond, her phone buzzed with a message. She glanced down and saw Rohan's name flashing on the screen.

Abhi's gaze flickered to her phone, and though he said nothing, Ruhi could tell-he didn't like it.

A slow satisfaction curled in her chest. Maybe she wasn't the only one losing control after all.

Author's Note:

Ohhh, look who's taking the wheel now! Ruhi's done playing the lovestruck girl—she's out here flipping tables (okay, metaphorically) and flipping the script. And Abhi? That little crack in his smirk? Chef's kiss. Love, jealousy, and Rohan entering the chat? This triangle's heating up fast, and someone's about to get burned.

—Your author, grinning like the puppet master of this delicious drama.
