Chapter 7 - The First Training

Every power has its inherent flaws, limitations that shape the user's journey and abilities. Whether derived from magical sources, ancient artifacts, or supernatural gifts, these powers come with unique weaknesses that can hinder the very essence of their potential. Often, these flaws manifest as mental or physical burdens, compromising the user's effectiveness or even endangering their well-being.

In many scenarios, when a user begins to exploit their powers for selfish or reckless purposes, they risk facing dire consequences. Such consequences could take the form of debilitating curses or an irreversible punishment that might be more tormenting than death itself—punishments that modern remedies or ancient wisdom cannot alleviate. This creates a compelling narrative of struggle, as the user grapples not only with the allure of their power but also with the looming threat of its repercussions.

However, beneath the surface of these established rules, whispers of forbidden knowledge persist. Hidden manuscripts, rumored to contain ancient spells, offer a tantalizing glimmer of hope and temptation. These are not ordinary texts; they harbor secrets potent enough to dismantle the flaws inherent in any magical ability or curse. Few are aware of their existence, and even fewer dare to seek them out. The manuscripts are said to dwell in parallel dimensions, carefully concealed from those who might seek power without understanding the peril it entails.

Those who would attempt to locate these forbidden texts face an arduous journey, fraught with challenges and the risk of entering the Eternal Abyss—an enigmatic space that tests the limits of sanity, resolve, and moral integrity. Crossing into this dimension not only requires unfathomable bravery but also a commitment to the unseen forces that govern magic and its consequences.

The knowledge contained within these manuscripts could usher in a new era—one stirred by hope, healing, and the liberation of cursed hearts. Conversely, it could herald a dark era, characterized by chaos, unbridled ambition, and destruction. The outcome hinges on who ultimately uncovers these secrets and how they choose to wield that knowledge.

Individuals seeking the manuscripts face a moral conundrum: will they embrace the potential for redemption, or will they succumb to the darker temptations of unchecked power? The quest for these ancient texts serves as a poignant reminder that knowledge can be both a blessing and a curse, shaping destinies and charting the course for future generations. As this epic tale unfolds, the fate of many hangs in the balance, caught between the allure of forbidden power and the risks that inherently accompany it.

**"Alright, you idiot. You've got six hours before the Hollow King's sentinels find us."** Melissa tossed a glowing green Voidborn crystal at Dylan's feet. **"Use it or lose it."**

Dylan caught the crystal and immediately **blinked** three feet to the left as it exploded in his hand. **"WHAT THE HELL, MELISSA?!"**

She smirked, a wicked gleam in her eye. **"Lesson one: Always expect betrayal."**

**The Training Begins**

**1. Teleportation – "Don't Teleport Into a Wall"**

The first task was deceptively simple: Dylan was to master short-range blinking without accidentally reappearing inside solid objects. Melissa watched intently as he took a deep breath and concentrated on the distance of a nearby tree.

- **Progress:**

 - He squared his shoulders and **phased halfway into a tree**, letting out a scream that echoed through the clearing. The bark scratched his skin, and he stumbled back, heart racing.

 - After several frustrating iterations, he began to "feel" the empty space around him before jumping, a skill he honed over the next hour. **60% success rate.**

- **Time Left:** **5 hours.**

**2. Void Resistance – "Stop Screaming When the Dark Talks"**

"Next up: Void resistance." Melissa's voice dropped an octave as she activated her gauntlet, creating a swirling vortex of black mist. Dylan felt the edges of his mind pull, a creeping dread wrapping around him.

- **Method:** She locked him in a nightmare illusion, a projection of his deepest fears and regrets.

- **Result:**

 - Moments later, Dylan found himself face-to-face with his ex-boss, the man who had tormented him relentlessly at work. Without thinking, he **punched the hallucination**, a vague sense of satisfaction washing over him. Progress?

 - Yet the whispers in the dark still lingered, murmuring secrets that clawed at his sanity. Instead of panicking, he flipped them off. **"Not today, Satan."**

- **Time Left:** **3 hours.**

**3. Combat Reflexes – "Stop Trying to Punch Teleporting Enemies"**

For this exercise, Melissa decided to test Dylan's enhanced reflexes. Using her agility, she ambushed him with a knife.

- **Test:**

 - In his first attempt, Dylan panicked and **teleported straight into her kick**, which sent him sprawling.

 - By the final attempt, however, he teleported just in time to **disarm her**, snatching the knife away. Unfortunately, he then tripped over his own feet and landed on the ground with a thud.

- **Verdict:** **"You're still terrible, but less terrible."** The grin on her face made him groan even as adrenaline coursed through him.

- **Time Left:** **1 hour.**

**The Final Test – "Don't Die"**

With time running out, Melissa decided it was time for the ultimate challenge. She haphazardly hurled him into a pit filled with writhing Voidborn larvae, their glistening bodies pulsating with eerie light.

**Dylan:** **"OH COME ON—"**

**30 Minutes Later:**

He emerged from the pit, covered in alien guts and glowing wounds that throbbed against his skin like they had a life of their own. The experience had been horrific but oddly empowering.

When he noticed his reflection in a nearby puddle, he was shocked to see his eyes **flicker green** when stressed, a clear sign of the Void's influence over him. In a sudden burst of newfound confidence, he **teleported behind Melissa and snatched her knife, a smirk on his face.**

**Melissa lifted an eyebrow.** **"...Huh. You might live."**

**Dylan, still grinning, replied,** **"Cool. Can we take a nap now?"**

Just then, alarms blared in the distance, piercing through the haze of exhaustion and adrenaline. The sentinels were **here.**

**Time's up.**
