Chapter 75 - The Calm Before the Storm

Sera sat on the edge of a rocky cliff, her feet dangling over the edge as she stared out at the vast ocean below. The setting sun painted the sky in hues of pink and orange, casting a peaceful glow over the scene. It was hard to believe that just hours ago, the world had been on the brink of destruction. The storm, the Gate, the chaos—it all felt like a distant memory now, swallowed by the calm that had followed.

But Sera knew better than to be fooled by the tranquility of the moment. She had lived long enough to understand that peace was often just the calm before the storm. And deep inside, she could feel that the battle was far from over. The forces she had encountered were only a fraction of what awaited her.

She glanced over her shoulder, where Naeya stood a few feet away, her eyes fixed on the horizon. The older woman had been quiet since the battle with the Gate, her usual calm demeanor now tinged with a sense of urgency.

Naeya's voice broke the silence. "The storm may have passed, but the true enemy is still out there."

Sera nodded, her stomach twisting at the thought. "I know. But what exactly are we dealing with? Who—or what—is behind the Gate?"

Naeya turned to face her, her expression grave. "The Gate was never meant to be opened. It was a seal, a barrier created by the ancients to keep something... something dangerous, imprisoned on the other side. For centuries, it has remained closed, but now, with the Gate weakening, the creatures on the other side are looking for a way to break through."

Sera felt a chill run down her spine. "Creatures?"

Naeya's gaze darkened. "Beasts beyond imagination. Monsters that devour everything in their path. They have been waiting for centuries, and now they are closer than ever. The storm was their attempt to force open the Gate, but we stopped them. For now."

Sera clenched her fists, the weight of Naeya's words settling heavily in her chest. She had always known that the world was full of darkness, but she had never imagined it would come in the form of creatures from another realm. The thought of facing them sent a shiver through her, but she steeled herself. She had faced so much already—this was just another challenge to overcome.

"So, what do we do now?" she asked, her voice steady despite the fear swirling inside her.

Naeya's eyes softened for a moment. "We prepare. We need to gather allies, strengthen our forces, and find a way to close the Gate for good. The creatures beyond are relentless, and they will stop at nothing to break through. We cannot let them succeed."

Sera stood up, determination filling her heart. "Then we'll do whatever it takes to stop them."

Naeya nodded approvingly. "That's the spirit. But remember, the path ahead will not be easy. There are enemies we don't even know yet—forces that work in the shadows. We must be vigilant, and we must be ready."

Sera glanced back at the horizon, the sun now dipping below the edge of the world. The peaceful colors of the sky were beginning to fade, replaced by the dark blue of night. It felt like the calm before a new storm, one that would be far more dangerous than the last.

But as long as she had the strength to fight, she would stand against whatever came next.

"We'll be ready," Sera said firmly, her voice unwavering.

Naeya smiled, a small but genuine smile. "I believe you. Now, let's head back to the others. There's much to do."

Sera turned and began walking back toward their camp, her heart heavy with the weight of what was to come, but her resolve stronger than ever. She had faced the storm and survived. She had sealed the Gate, but now, the true battle was about to begin.
