Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelfth: The strange test and the sign of the deserted island

It was a seemingly normal day when Lin, Yumi, and Rin gathered at the café after an arduous mission.

They decided to relax for a bit, but things took a different turn when Rin came up with a strange competition idea.

"Lin, how about a test without using our *Spirit of Twilight*? Let's see who's the best at their basics." Ren said with a defiant grin.

Lin gave a slight smile.

"Well, it looks like you want to lose, but I'm ready."

"Hey, no need to ruin the place with your rivalries," Yumi interrupted with a slight laugh.

"Let's move on to something more fun," Yumi said enthusiastically, suggesting the idea of a jumping contest.

"But remember, no use of any ability from the *Spirit of Twilight*."

Everyone started jumping, each trying to outdo the other.

Lin, who had always relied on his super strength and speed, found himself facing a real challenge without summoning his abilities.

He ended up falling hilariously, causing a wave of laughter from Yumi.

Rin, who tried to excel in his own way, ended up with an even more embarrassing fall that had Yumi clapping with laughter.

Yumi, with remarkable agility and ironic precision, managed to achieve the highest jump.

She raised her hands in the air and proudly said: "That's how it's done! You guys need more practice."

While they were laughing at themselves and their ridiculous failures, the atmosphere suddenly changed.

A heavy, huge sound made the ground shake under their feet.

Yumi looked anxiously into the distance, a look of caution on her face.

"What's that?" Lin asked, adjusting his posture.

"It doesn't look like anything normal."

Ren's voice rang out, his humor turning serious: "I think the fun is over."

A huge monster emerged from the shadows, its body covered in metallic scales and its limbs radiating a strange energy.

Its breath alone shook the air around it, and its glowing eyes stared directly at them.

It was clear that a confrontation was inevitable.

"There's no escaping it now, it's time for the *Spirit of Twilight*." Yumi said in a deep voice as she reached out to summon her weapon.

Lin and Rin responded immediately, each of them displaying their own weapon.

The aura around them completely changed, seeming to reveal the essence of their true powers.

"Let's see if we can work as a team, despite all this nonsense." Lin said with a half-sarcastic smile.

"Let's hope we don't embarrass ourselves in front of that monster as well." Ren added, as the three took their places.

The battle began as the monster rushed towards them with sudden speed, using its metallic arms to strike the ground and create a massive shockwave.

Lin shouted: "Retreat now!"

He fired his **Air Sword** to block the attack, creating a small tornado that sent the wave away from the team.

Yumi used the moment to rush towards the monster, using her **Ice Cutter** to freeze one of its limbs.

She yelled: "Focus on attacking now while it's stuck!"

Rin responded quickly, leaping high and holding the **Metal Sword** in a steady hand, striking the monster with a vertical strike that pierced one of its metal scales.

But the monster roared violently, breaking up the ice around it and aiming random blows at them.

Lynn fired **Fire Bow**, sending a series of flaming arrows that struck the monster's chest, forcing it to take a step back.

Lin said in a decisive tone: "Yume, freeze its legs again! Rin, aim for its head!"

Yumi summoned the ice energy again, completely freezing the monster's metal legs.

Rin took the opportunity to climb onto the monster's back, using his **Metal Sword** to deliver a powerful blow to its head.

But the monster, despite its multiple injuries, didn't give up easily.

It let out a terrifying roar and sent out a powerful energy wave that pushed the team away.

Lin raised the **Triangular Water Spear** and directed a wave of icy water towards the monster's body, temporarily stabilizing it.

He then summoned the **Dirt Spear** to cover the ground around the monster with quicksand, causing it to slowly sink.

At the last moment, Lin used the **Rock Hammer**, creating a powerful earthquake that caused large cracks under the monster, causing it to completely collapse and fall motionless.

When the battle was over, the three of them looked at where the monster had fallen as a strange mark appeared on the ground, glowing with a faint pulse-like glow.

Lin approached cautiously, his features a mixture of curiosity and concern.

"What's that?" He muttered as Ren pointed to the tangled metallic symbol, saying: "This is definitely not normal."

Yumi leaned in to examine it more closely, her facial features sharply focused on the details.

"This code... it looks like it's encrypted. We can't analyze it here."

She raised her head towards the two before adding, "We have specialized labs in the Second Legion that can handle this type of code.

We'll have to take it there."

After a few moments of quick discussion, they decided to transport the code to the nearby Second Legion headquarters.

The road was filled with tension, and with each step, they couldn't shake the feeling that something bigger was lurking around the corner.

When they arrived at the lab, they were greeted by scientist Maru, who wore glasses that shimmered in the dim light of the lab.

His features conveyed expertise and sobriety, but he didn't hide his curiosity when he saw the code.

"Bringing in something like this without any prior information? That's not conventional." Maru said as he approached the platform for analysis.

He carefully placed the symbol on the platform and began to examine it using sophisticated tools.

The faint pulse of the symbol became more pronounced, as if it was reacting to the surroundings.

Maru paused for a moment and looked at Yumi.

"This is no ordinary symbol...it's talking, as if it wants to tell us something."

A few minutes of analysis revealed coordinates on the main screen.

Maru pointed to the location, saying: "It points to a deserted island.

This island has always been off the radar of the Legion and the Guardians.

Do you think this indicates something dangerous?"

The three exchanged glances before Yumi answered: "We need to find out why this symbol is directing us there. We have to go."

They returned to the meeting room where the discussion began with the leaders of the Second Legion.

"These are strange coordinates, and the island is not under our jurisdiction.

If the mission is necessary, we will need to coordinate with the Guardians," one of the leaders said clearly.

It wasn't long before contact was made with the Guardians' headquarters.

As they expected, the discussion was not an easy one.

"This island is in our area of operations, so we will be in charge of its command," the Guardian representative stated in a firm tone.

This did not sit well with the representative of the Second Legion, who retorted: "But you don't even know the nature of the threat we're dealing with.

We will be part of the mission."

After hours of heated discussions, Lin and Yumi managed to calm things down by suggesting the formation of a joint exploration team.

"We won't make any progress if we keep arguing. We need to work together to get the job done safely and efficiently," Lin said firmly.

With the initial agreement in place, the joint team began to prepare.

As the ship was being prepared, slight differences between the members of the two organizations could be observed.

Ren tried to impose himself as the leader, prompting some sarcastic comments from one of the Guardian warriors.

Yumi watched silently, focused on organizing tools and supplies.

Lin, meanwhile, busied himself with mapping and studying the route.

As the moment of departure approached, Lin found himself and Yumi at the front of the ship.

The ocean in front of them seemed endless, and clouds were slowly gathering on the horizon.

He asked her in a hushed voice: "Don't you think this place holds some kind of answer?"

Yumi didn't answer right away, but looked at the waves and said, "We'll only find out if we arrive."

When the ship set sail, the atmosphere held a mixture of tension and anticipation.

The cold wind caressed their faces, and the sounds of the waves gave a sense of mystery.
