Chapter 12 - The gun

Phil stood and began walking toward her, each step deliberate, his movements slow and measured. To Elizabeth, all she saw was a pig, waddling its way across the room.

She didn't back down, her posture rigid, her gaze sharp. "Well, you seem to be having fun," she said, her voice dripping with venom.

"Excuse me?" he replied, confusion flickering in his expression.

Elizabeth's attention shifted to his secretary, who stood nervously, fidgeting with her fingers. "And what brand is that tiny skirt?" she asked, her eyes narrowing.

The secretary swallowed hard. "Good afternoon, Madam Elizabeth," she stammered.

Elizabeth's lips curled into a chilling, almost manic smile, one that could rival the Joker's. "Was that what I asked you?"

The young woman's blonde hair bobbed as she shook her head, her brown eyes wide with panic. "N-no, Madam," she stammered.

Elizabeth tilted her head, her smile widening. "Suspicious. Very suspicious, Miss Weather."

She stepped around her husband, heels clicking like a metronome of impending doom, until she stood toe-to-toe with the secretary. "Tell me, are you actually trying to seduce my husband?"

The woman shook her head so furiously that Elizabeth half-expected it to pop off her shoulders. "No, Madam! This is... this is the only skirt I had left! I sent everything else to the laundry," she explained in a desperate rush.

Elizabeth's smile widened, her tone mockingly sweet. "Oh, look at that! excuses! How cute."

"Elizabeth!" Phil barked from behind her, his voice firm with warning.

She whirled on him, eyes blazing. "Shut up, Phil!" she snapped. "The women are talking."

She turned back to the trembling secretary, her gaze cold and unrelenting. "Well then, answer me this. Is my husband handsome?"

The blonde woman trembled so violently that her knees almost buckled. "Y-yes," she stammered.

Elizabeth's smile turned sinister. "Good. Now, would you die for him?"

The color drained from the woman's face, leaving her ghostly pale.

Elizabeth reached into her luxury designer bag, the sound of the zipper slicing through the silence like a blade.

When her hand emerged, it was clutching a gun, its surface encrusted with glittering rhinestones and diamonds.

The weapon's cold metallic gleam mirrored the icy resolve in her eyes.

The secretary froze, her breaths coming in short, panicked gasps.

Elizabeth cocked the gun with deliberate slowness.

The fan overhead creaked with an irritating whine, sunlight streaming through the blinds, casting harsh patterns across the room.

In one swift motion, she pointed the gun at the fan and pulled the trigger. The loud bang shattered the tension, sending the fan crashing to the floor. The secretary screamed.

"Ah, zip it," Elizabeth snapped, her voice cutting through the chaos. "Shut your mouth."

She turned the gun back toward the terrified woman. "I'll ask you again. Would you die for him?"

The blonde shook her head violently, tears streaming down her face. "No! No, I wouldn't!" she sobbed.

Elizabeth smiled, a chilling calm settling over her. She raised the gun and pressed it to her own temple. The secretary's screams turned frantic. "Madam! No, please!"

Ignoring her, Elizabeth turned her gaze to Phil, who stood rooted in place. His face betrayed no emotion, his expression unreadable, as though he were calculating every possible outcome.

"I would," Elizabeth said softly, her voice laced with conviction. "I would die for him. Only..."

She tilted her head, her finger brushing the trigger. "He'd have to die first."

The silence erupted into chaos as the gunshot rang out.

The secretary lunged forward, knocking the weapon from Elizabeth's hands. In seconds, security and nurses swarmed the office. They grabbed her, pinning her against the table, but Elizabeth thrashed, her screams tearing through the room.

"Unhand me!" she shrieked. "They said I should kill him! He's a bloody cheater! He's cheating on me!"

The sharp sting of an injection pierced her arm, and her struggles weakened. The room began to blur, fading into a haze.

Her last vision was of Phil, standing there, calm as ever.

And as her consciousness slipped away, she swore he was smiling.
