Chapter 25 - Sparing

The very next day at school, Orihime sat with her friends in the cafeteria, recounting the events from the night before. Her voice trembled slightly as she explained what had happened with her brother, the hollow, and Ichigo's sudden intervention. But despite her sincere tone and the visible emotion in her eyes, her friends didn't seem to believe her.

"Come on, Orihime," one of them chuckled, "A yakuza? Really? You've been watching too many movies."

Orihime frowned, feeling the weight of their disbelief. She tried to insist, but the more she spoke, the more they laughed it off as if it were some fantastical story. She sighed, her shoulders slumping.

'Maybe they can't understand...' she thought, her gaze dropping to the table.

Ichigo sat on the side, watching the scene unfold from a distance. He could hear Orihime's voice as she explained, but he wasn't worried.

'Guess it worked, kidding. I know very well they're acting.' he thought with a small smile, leaning back against the wall. He glanced at the clock, his excitement building.

'Oh, today Rukia and I will be sparring. Can't wait for that.' The thought made him chuckle to himself, as he prepared for the upcoming session.

Later that day, the sun was beginning to dip low, casting long shadows over the park where Ichigo used to practice. The cool evening air made the place feel peaceful, almost serene, but there was an underlying sense of tension as both Ichigo and Rukia stood facing each other, each holding a wooden bokken.

Rukia's stance was confident, yet she couldn't hide the slight hint of a smirk on her lips as she sized up Ichigo. She was ready to see how far his swordsmanship had come.

Ichigo, on the other hand, was just as eager to test his own skills. He tightened his grip on the bokken, feeling the familiar weight in his hands. He had fought hollows, but this was different—this was training, and there was something about Rukia's sharp gaze that made him feel more determined than ever.

"Ready?" Ichigo asked, his voice calm but laced with anticipation.

"Whenever you are," Rukia replied, her eyes narrowing slightly as she prepared herself.

Ichigo and Rukia squared off in the park, the air thick with anticipation. They each held their bokken, ready for the fight. Rukia moved first, stepping forward with a quick, light shift of her weight.

Swish!

Her sword cut through the air as she aimed for Ichigo's left side. Ichigo sidestepped, his foot scraping lightly across the gravel.

Scrape, thud!

He barely avoided the strike. As he moved, Ichigo brought his bokken up in an overhead arc, aiming for Rukia's head. The sound of wood cutting the air echoed sharply.

Whistling!

Rukia ducked just in time, the bokken missing her by inches. She spun quickly, bringing her own sword up for a counterattack. The strike connected with a loud:

Thwack!

Ichigo was forced to step back, narrowly avoiding a deeper strike. He quickly repositioned, raising his bokken to block as Rukia's blade came down on him again.

Clack!

The weapons met with a sharp sound, and the force pushed them both back, giving them a moment to reassess their positions. Ichigo quickly moved forward, aiming for Rukia's legs with a swift, low strike.

Thud!

His bokken hit the ground where her feet had been moments before. Rukia jumped back, the scrape of her shoes against the gravel ringing out as she avoided the attack.

Scrape!

Ichigo pressed forward, his bokken coming down again in a horizontal slash. Rukia quickly lifted her own weapon, blocking the strike with a sharp:

Clang!

The impact sent a shock through her arms, but she quickly turned the force into momentum, pushing Ichigo's sword aside with a fast, precise movement. Rukia closed the distance, thrusting her sword toward Ichigo's chest.

Whoosh!

Ichigo sidestepped the thrust, narrowly avoiding the strike. The wind created by the motion was enough to ruffle his hair. As Rukia followed up, he raised his bokken and blocked again, the sounds of wood meeting ringing out loudly:

Crack!

Ichigo grinned and quickly retaliated with a swift jab toward Rukia's midsection. The force of his attack made a sharp.

Thud!

as Rukia barely managed to duck under it. She spun around, using the momentum to try and strike Ichigo's legs.

Swish!

Ichigo jumped, the sound of his feet leaving the ground mixing with the quiet breeze. He landed behind her and swung his bokken toward her back.

Thwack!

Rukia blocked just in time, the sound of the blow reverberating through the park. Both fighters paused for a moment, taking a quick breath, their bodies slightly trembling from the exertion. The only sound now was the soft rustling of the trees and their ragged breaths.

Ichigo smirked, lowering his sword slightly. "Not bad," he said with a grin.

Rukia wiped the sweat off her forehead, a light laugh escaping her. "You're not bad yourself," she replied, setting herself for another round.

As Rukia's eyes sharpened, a subtle shift occurred in her stance. She decided, in that moment, to stop holding back—no more testing, no more playing around. She was going to show Ichigo just what she was capable of.

Her grip on the bokken tightened, her feet slid apart, positioning her lower body into a more stable base. The change was subtle, but the energy in the air became palpable.

Ichigo noticed immediately—her posture had become more refined, her movements more calculated. He braced himself, sensing that this was no longer going to be a simple sparring session.

Without any warning, Rukia launched forward in a burst of speed.

Thwack!

The bokken struck with a crack that was louder than anything from before. Ichigo barely managed to block the blow, the force of it rattling up his arms. The shockwave from the hit was like a small jolt through his body.

Crack!

Another blow came, aiming for his shoulder, and Ichigo was forced to sidestep, feeling the air shift with the power behind Rukia's strike. He swung his sword in retaliation, but Rukia was already gone. She ducked low, her feet light on the ground as she spun around, moving like a shadow.

Swish, swish, swish!

Her bokken moved with blinding speed, aiming to disorient Ichigo. Each attack was precise, each movement deliberate, as if she were dissecting his every move before it even happened.

Ichigo's breath quickened, his feet sliding against the gravel as he fought to keep up with her pace. The sound of her bokken cutting through the air was like a whip cracking—sharp and fast.

Crack!

One blow caught him on the side, making him stumble back.

Scrape, thud!

He regained his balance, narrowly avoiding another swing aimed at his head. The force of the missed blow made his hair whip around in the wind, and he couldn't help but feel a growing respect for Rukia's precision.

She didn't give him a moment's rest. Her next attack came in the form of a lightning-fast horizontal slash that cut through the air.

Whoosh!

Ichigo managed to block it just in time, but the impact sent a shock through his arms, forcing him back a step. Rukia didn't stop; she pushed forward, aiming for his ribs with a swift jab.

Thud!

The bokken's tip barely missed his side, but the speed was enough to make him feel the rush of wind from the strike. He swung back, but she anticipated it. She ducked under his attack and kicked his feet from under him in one swift motion.

Thud!

Ichigo hit the ground hard, the breath knocked out of him for a split second. He rolled backward, immediately jumping to his feet, but Rukia was already there, her bokken raised for the final blow.

Clang!

At the last moment, Ichigo raised his bokken to block, but the sheer force of her strike pushed him down to one knee. He winced, feeling the pressure of Rukia's strength as her weapon stayed pressed against his.

Rukia stepped back, her breathing steady, though her body showed signs of exertion. She gave him a small smile, almost as if she were testing him. "You're getting better," she said, her voice tinged with satisfaction.

Ichigo, still on one knee, grinned up at her, slightly breathless but more determined than ever. " Really?"

' If I continue like this I'll be pretty much a swords master. Man I'm smart ' he thought.
