"Oof… Jean, you okay?" Logan asked, bracing himself over her.
Jean blinked, momentarily stunned, then frowned. "Do you have to land on me every time?"
He smirked. "It's the universe, not me. You're gravity's favorite."
"Get off."
He rolled to the side and lay there for a moment, both of them catching their breath in the silence of the forest.
After a few beats, Jean sat up. "We should finish the windbreak before it gets dark."
They completed the wall with dried moss stuffed into the crevices, using thick palm leaves to act as a makeshift roof. Logan added stones around the fire pit and piled in twigs and bark.
Jean watched him carefully arrange them. "You actually know what you're doing."
"I was a Boy Scout. For like, a week."
She laughed. "That explains so much."
When the first flames flickered to life, Jean smiled… she really smiled and Logan noticed. It made the entire effort worth it.
