Jack's POV
"You son of a bitch!"
I smiled as she yelled at me over the phone. "Be careful. My mother doesn't like being called a bitch."
As if I was going to tell her.
It felt good to mess with her though. She deserved it.
She wheezed and I could hear how loud she was breathing and trying to calm herself down. I knew she remembered how nice my mother used to be to her and regretted the outburst.
She ought to.
She ought to regret her existence as well.
"You son of a donkey."
I shrugged. I didn't mind that insult if she was referring to my father. My mother was the one that was off-limits. I wondered if my reason for avoiding marriage was because I was afraid I was going to have commitment issues like my father.
Maybe I already did. I barely thought of the baby in Katherine's belly even though I was now pretty convinced that it was mine. I sighed, exhaling a bitter breath. I should fix myself and do better for my kid before it came into the world.
