Chapter 147 - Chapter 147: The World Above the Ground

In the original story, Furuta Nimura orchestrated Kaneki Ken's transformation into 'Dragon' with the clear intent of turning all of humanity into ghouls.

This would allow for a complete transformation of the world.

If the human race ceased to exist, leaving only ghouls, then the conflict between humans and ghouls would naturally disappear as well.

However, as 'Dragon' converted humans into ghouls, it also spawned a massive number of creatures known as "Dragon Orphans."

These "Dragon Orphans" didn't just attack humans, they also targeted ghouls, making them a common enemy to both species.

If 'Dragon' were left unchecked, then Uchiha Byakuya would undoubtedly become the greatest sinner of all.

But he had no desire to take things that far.

After all, he wasn't some extremist villain, nor did he wish to eradicate the human race entirely.

"Do you think… this could be a good solution? A way to truly change the world?"

Yoshimura Eto asked Byakuya for his thoughts.

"It's definitely the most radical solution. But the sacrifices it demands are far too extreme. In my opinion, there's another approach that's far more suitable."

Byakuya said.

"What approach?"

Eto asked immediately.

"'Dragon' will create a massive number of monsters. Those creatures are hostile to both humans and ghouls alike. Once humans and ghouls share a common enemy, they will naturally be forced to unite."

Byakuya explained.

In the original story, the most significant step toward a relative peace, aside from the development of specially engineered food for ghouls was the presence of a shared enemy, particularly the Dragon Orphans, and among them, the extraordinarily powerful "Kakuja Kaneki."

Furuta Nimura, who engineered Kaneki's transformation into the 'Dragon,' could be considered the greatest contributor to this outcome.

His role was just as crucial as that of Eto and Arima Kishou, who had prepared Kaneki for his eventual position as the King.

However, it was unclear whether Kaneki's Holy Sword Form had also been part of Furuta's plan.

Perhaps it was something even he had failed to anticipate.

"That… does make sense. So, your plan is to wait for the Washuu clan to awaken 'Dragon'?"

Eto nodded slightly, acknowledging that this strategy was also viable.

"Mmm… But they won't be able to find 'Dragon's' core so quickly. We'll need to make some preparations in the meantime."

Byakuya speculated that if the Washuu clan wanted to resurrect 'Dragon,' they would first have to locate its core.

As for what kind of preparations were needed.

For example, evacuating civilians, moving Tokyo's population into shelters, or simply having them leave the city altogether.

That way, casualties could be minimized as much as possible.

At that moment, the three little girls had already finished eating all the "meat" in their boxes.

Patting their satisfied, full stomachs, they sighed in contentment.

"It's been so long since we've eaten this much… and it was so delicious."

"But the meat really did look like the flesh of our own kind. Yet the taste was completely different… I guess that big brother was right after all. We're not humans, we're… whatever he called 'ghouls'…"

"Whatever. Doesn't really matter. Ghoul or human, it makes no difference."

For them, the question of whether they were human or ghoul was ultimately irrelevant.

It was just a hard truth that they needed time to accept.

Regardless of what they were called, humans or ghouls;

It didn't change the fact that they were all on the verge of starvation due to food shortages.

At the very least, they had gotten to enjoy a final feast.

Byakuya was about to give the girls some tissues to wipe their hands, but before he could do so, he saw them licking the remaining blood and meat residue off their fingers, as if they couldn't bear to let any of it go to waste.

"…Do you want tissues?"

Byakuya paused for a moment before asking.

"Tissues? What's that?"

It was clear that they didn't understand the word "tissues" due to some differences in language.

"It's this. You can use it to wipe your hands and mouth."

Byakuya handed them each some tissues.

"Ohhh."

They recognized what tissues were, they just didn't understand the term he used.

After wiping themselves clean, one of the girls immediately turned to Byakuya and asked:

"Alright, tell us what do you want us to do?"

"Take us to meet some of your companions. Of course, I have no ill will toward any of you. If anything, I want to bring you all to the world above."

Byakuya explained.

Once 'Dragon' was awakened, the underground world would become uninhabitable.

Before that happened, he wanted to bring all the underground inhabitants to the surface.

"The world above? What's that?"

The three girls were once again confused by his words.

"Look up. The things above you are layers of rock and earth. But in the world above, there's the sun, clouds… At night, you can see the stars and the moon. And most importantly, there's enough food."

Byakuya explained.

In this lightless underground world, the only illumination came from faintly glowing objects, making the entire environment dark and oppressive.

"Really? There's enough food?!"

"I've heard of it before; the world was supposed to have a sun and a moon. When the sun rises, everything is bright, not like now, where there's only endless darkness…"

"Where exactly is this 'world above'?"

Hearing this,

Byakuya immediately answered:

"The three boxes of food I just gave you came from the world above. As for where it is; it's right above your heads."

"Above… our heads…"

They looked up, but all they could see was darkness.

"Or… I can take you up there to see it for yourselves. After that, you can decide whether or not to introduce us to your companions."

Byakuya was offering full sincerity.

"Then take us up first!"

It wasn't that they didn't trust Byakuya;

The three boxes of delicious food had already earned their complete trust.

Rather, they simply couldn't wait to see the world above.

"Alright. Hold onto me, and close your eyes, you might get scared otherwise."

Byakuya instructed.

With "Dual Kamui," spatial teleportation was incredibly convenient and could save a lot of time.

"Okay~"

The three girls casually reached out and grabbed onto different parts of Byakuya's clothes.

Eto, on the other hand, directly took hold of Byakuya's hand.

The next moment, Byakuya teleported them all away.

Eto had already experienced this ability before, so she remained completely calm.

But for the three little girls, this was their first time.

The overwhelming sensation of spinning and twisting through space immediately startled them.

In their panic, they instinctively clung to Byakuya and Eto.

Two of them latched onto Byakuya's legs and arms, while the third clung tightly to Eto.

And just like that; they arrived in the 'Safe Zone', at Anteiku.
