Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 The Call in the Night

As night fell, the forest appeared deep and mysterious under the hazy moonlight. The wind gently brushed through the treetops, carrying faint whispers, as if there was some unknown existence hidden deep within the earth. The campfire flickered slightly, illuminating Kalle's thoughtful face.

Allen had already fallen into a deep sleep, breathing evenly, and there were no more traces of pain on his face. However, Kalle felt a trace of unease. It was as if a heavy stone was pressing on his chest. As the night deepened, that restless feeling became more and more obvious.

The woman sat quietly beside him, silently observing Kalle's changes. Since signing the contract, the wolf nature in him had become more and more apparent. Even she could occasionally catch a glimpse of the deep blue light in his eyes in the firelight.

"What are you thinking about?" The woman broke the silence, her voice soft but with a hint of inquiry.

Kalle lowered his eyes. The firelight danced in his pupils, reflecting a trace of complex emotions. "I'm thinking... if one day I completely turn into a monster, how will Allen look at me?"

The woman was slightly taken aback, then let out a soft laugh. "He will be afraid, but more than that, he will feel distressed."

Kalle slowly raised his head and looked at her. "Why are you so sure?"

The woman's gaze softened as she looked at the sleeping Allen. "Because you are his only family. He won't abandon you because of fear. On the contrary, he might do something even crazier than you to save you."

Kalle's heart trembled slightly. He looked down at Allen's young face, and a warm feeling welled up in his heart.

"Maybe," Kalle said in a low voice, a faint smile appearing on his lips.

However, the tranquility of the night didn't last long.

Kalle suddenly opened his eyes and looked around alertly. The campfire was gradually going out. The surrounding forest was shrouded in a layer of mist, and there was a faint smell of blood in the air.

The woman also sensed something was wrong. She quickly stood up, drew out the short dagger at her waist, and scanned every corner of the darkness with eagle-like eyes.

"Something is approaching," she said in a low voice, a trace of tension in her voice.

Kalle quickly stood up, protecting Allen behind him. He placed his hand on the handle of the short dagger, and his heart rate gradually increased.

In the mist, several pairs of deep blue eyes slowly emerged, hiding behind the dark tree shadows and approaching silently.

"The wolf pack..." The woman frowned and gripped the short dagger tightly. "But this isn't the territory of an ordinary wolf pack."

Kalle stared fixedly at those pairs of eyes, and his heart indistinct ached. He could sense the aura emanating from these wolves—it was extremely similar to the wolf nature aura in his own body.

They were calling to him.

"Get out of the way," Kalle said in a low voice, his voice carrying a trace of unwavering determination that brooked no refusal.

The woman was stunned. "What are you going to do?"

"They're here for me," Kalle slowly drew out the short dagger. The blade reflected a faint cold light. "Allen can't be in danger."

The woman's brows furrowed tightly. She wanted to stop him, but when she saw the resolute look in Kalle's eyes, she finally let out a sigh and took a few steps back, standing in front of Allen.

Kalle walked step by step towards those pairs of deep blue eyes. The wolf pack gradually revealed their figures. They were tall and sturdy, with their fur as black as the night. Every step they took carried a steady sense of oppression.

He stopped five steps away from the wolf pack, the short dagger hanging by his side. His gaze met that of the huge wolf at the head of the pack.

"You're summoning me, aren't you?" Kalle asked in a low voice, his voice echoing in the night.

The huge wolf narrowed its eyes, slowly lowered its head, and let out a low growl from its throat, as if responding to his words.

Kalle felt his heart pounding violently, and his blood seemed to be boiling and surging. A strange force was growing crazy within his body. He knew that this was the effect of the contract. The bloodline of the Wolf King was awakening, and these wolves were the messengers sent to guide him to complete the awakening.

"If I go with you, will they be in danger?" Kalle asked with a calm gaze, staring into the huge wolf's eyes.

The huge wolf was silent for a moment, then slowly shook its head, as if giving a promise.

Kalle took a deep breath, put away the short dagger, and walked slowly towards the wolf pack.

The woman looked at his back, her brows furrowed tightly, and her fingers trembled slightly. In the end, she still didn't stop him.

"You must come back," her voice was barely audible in the night, but it carried a trace of worry that couldn't be hidden.

Kalle didn't look back. He just raised his hand and waved it gently. "Don't worry."

Deep in the forest, Kalle followed the wolf pack as they shuttled through the dense woods. The night wind blew across his face, and the howls of the wolves and the rustling of the leaves echoed in his ears.

He could feel the resonance of his bloodline. Every step he took was like stepping into another

world.

The huge wolf led him to an ancient ruin. The broken stone pillars stood tall in the depths of the forest, and the remaining totem carvings of the wolf clan could be faintly seen.

Kalle stood in the center of the ruin, looked up at the blood moon hanging in the sky, and his heart pounded violently. The power in his body seemed to awaken with the moonlight.

The huge wolf slowly approached, looked down at him, and a glimmer of wisdom shone in its eyes.

"Is this a trial?" Kalle asked in a low voice.

The huge wolf didn't answer. It just raised its paw and gently tapped on his chest. A burst of scorching light instantly rushed into his body.

Kalle let out a muffled groan, knelt on both knees, and cold sweat dripped from his forehead. The wolfish power in his body completely erupted. Faint black patterns emerged under his skin, his nails gradually became sharp, and his pupils completely turned deep blue.

He let out a roar to the sky, and the sound echoed in the forest. The wolf pack all lowered their heads, showing their submission to him.

Under the blood moon, Kalle's shadow was stretched very long, as if he had merged with the wolf pack.

In the morning, when the sunlight shone on the forest, Kalle slowly walked out of the forest and returned to the campfire.

The woman suddenly stood up and looked at him in surprise, with complex emotions in her eyes. "You're back?"

Kalle nodded. There was a hint of weariness on his face, but he also had an added air of calmness and composure.

Allen rubbed his eyes and woke up. The moment he saw Kalle, he immediately pounced on him and hugged him tightly. "Brother, where did you go?"

Kalle smiled and patted his back. "I went for a walk."

The woman stared into Kalle's eyes. Finally, she saw a trace of the deep blue light that hadn't dissipated in the depths of his pupils. She let out a slight sigh in her heart but didn't say anything more.

"We should keep moving," Kalle said, looking towards the distance.

His journey had just begun, and the call of the blood moon had quietly taken root in his heart.
