Chapter 12 - Abandoned Place

In a building that was on fire at night, ambulances quickly arrived on the scene.

Many people left the scene in despair at the flames, and reporters stood around the scene broadcasting for the news.

Among these people was Lucas, who was just a small child.

He was being carried out by his father, their desperate faces covered in soot. Outside they met Emily and Julia, the latter also a child.

Once there, Lucas's father talks tearfully to Emily, who soon begins to cry too.

But Lucas, still a child, was in a state of shock, and with a blank stare he looked up at the 10-storey building.

But then he hears his father say desperately.

- Come on, son! You need to go to hospital!

Then he collapses to the ground.

His father and mother despair as they see their son fall unconscious to the ground. Emily tries to wake him up by trying the first aid procedures, and his father, seeing his wives already at work, goes to find a doctor.

- Doctor! We need a doctor! My son needs a doctor!

He shouts desperately.

But that was just a terrible memory from his past.

- Let the game begin! - Shouts a macabre voice.

Lucas opens his eyes.

As he gets up, he realizes that he is in an abandoned Intensive Care Unit room.

- What is this place?

The windows were sealed with wooden boards, which were rotting due to fungus, but the little light that entered the room indicated that it was already daylight.

But the place also showed burn marks caused by a fire.

"It looks like it's already daylight."

But suddenly.

- Lucas! Lucas! - Tel's voice was heard.

"Tel? Where have you been all this time?" - Lucas asks mentally as he walks up to a burnt wooden door at the exit of this place.

- It's just... I've had some complications, and from what I can see through your body, the worst has happened, right?

"What do you think? They killed my family and took them to I don't know where?" - He comments a little angrily as he leaves the place.

Outside it was dark, with several fire marks on the walls.

- Maybe they took you to that place.

Out of nowhere, he remembers the moment when he was being carried on a stretcher to hospital while he watched a building being engulfed in flames.

- Hug... What was that? That memory again.

Withthat,hewalksdownthecorridor,lookingaroundcarefully,soasnottobeambushedbythepossiblecreaturesoftheplace,becauseunlikeinhisdreamswhenhedidn'thavesuchaproblemwithbeingcaught,inreallife,beingcaughtbythoseaberrationswouldmeanhisdeath.

The corridor was gradually becoming very dark, but he eventually found a lantern among a pile of rubble.

Which apparently looked a bit old.

 - I hope it works. - He said, very worried that it wouldn't work.

But to his surprise, the flashlight worked, even though it contained batteries that were very worn out by the corrosion and oxidation of some of the metal components inside.

 - I'm glad it's working, it'll make things a bit easier.

However, every step he took in this place increased the terrible feeling that he was being constantly watched.

But this time his fear was real: in the dark corners of the corridors he ventured into, there were security cameras that were deactivated at first glance, something Lucas didn't even notice as he walked through the dark, burnt-out corridors.

"So this place is where the fire from that souvenir took place?"

The fear becomes greater and greater as a few brief points of light are spotted in the darkness, which then suddenly disappear.

 - It's up to you now, if we're going to get out of here it's up to you, so I'd better not bother you. -Tel is very afraid and worried.

But it's not long before he hears metallic footsteps approaching.

Gradually, desperation takes hold of Lucas, as the scandalous footsteps of what could very possibly be creatures hunting him, he speeds up his own.

Without knowing where he was stepping or passing, the darkness of the place became complete, he had arrived in a completely enclosed area, in this particular corridor, there was an open door at the end.

 This briefly cheered him up.

 - Maybe I can hide in there.

And there he sees that it was an old security room, with several monitors from the 2010s, all very dusty, like the rest of the computer, you couldn't see the keyboard keys properly, the cabinet had a whole layer of dust, but the mouse was disconnected from the cabinet, something strange to say the least.

The monitors were on the wall and the rest was on a wooden table, which also had a lot of dust on it.

This room had a white paint job, which was now almost destroyed by the wear and tear of time.

But that was all, the place was full of dust and the wear and tear of time, and apparently there were no signs of fire.

Seeing all this, he quickly closes the door.

 - This is fine, just lock this door. - He mutters, desperate and very worried.

 Meanwhile.

The house where Lucas used to live has become a crime scene.

 - Emily, you could give me a statement. - A policeman comments.

 - Of course. - She replied, extremely worried.

They were outside, while forensics searched the place for clues.

All of Lucas's family went to the same police station where Emily works to give their testimony.

Julia reported the strange noises from inside the house.

Emily also reported the noises and the impossibility of opening her bedroom door.

Luiz (Lucas' father) reported the same thing as Emily.

But while they were making their statements at the police station, a criminal expert found a small USB stick in a corner of Lucas's room, which was completely messed up and had broken furniture.

He quickly bagged up the small pendrive, which was red with blood covering it.

 - This will make a good lead. - Comments the criminal expert.

But after bagging the USB stick, he began to feel the presence of someone watching him, which startled him into looking behind him, but there was nothing there, just a colleague.

 - What was that? - The expert asked, frightened.

His colleague, for his part, didn't understand why he had asked.

 - What? - His colleague asked.

 - It's just that out of nowhere I started to feel someone watching me.

 - Maybe it's lack of sleep, have you been sleeping well?

 - No, lately I've been working too much and with the stress of everyday life, I haven't been sleeping well, maybe I shouldn't work so much, maybe that's hurting me.

While all this was going on.

Lucas tries to turn on the old computer in the room, which, after many attempts, he manages to do so, then, reconnecting the mouse, he dusts off the parts of the computer where he can with his hands.

He then sat down on a wooden chair that was next to the table where the computer was.

Luckily, the computer didn't have a password, so it was easy to access his files. However, unlike the start screen where there was no password, several files on the device's hard drive had passwords to access them.

Only a few functions are available, such as programs for making text and listening to music, and one in particular, monitoring.

When he opened it, he saw a screen containing real recordings, and a warning that the space dedicated to storing camera recordings was full, so the program had entered a mode that transmitted what the cameras were capturing, but not recording.

With nothing much to do, he removed the warning from the screen and began to check the cameras.

 - Stopping to take a closer look at this place, it looks a bit like that room from my nightmares, but now it's all real.

But as he switches from one camera to another, the lights in the room suddenly come on, startling him immediately.

And the lights from the lamps in the room reveal the place better, bloodstains on a wall that extend to the entrance door of the room.

The sound of ventilation also begins to echo in the room.

This brief relief after the scare is soon interrupted when he notices on the camera someone wandering around outside the room.

It was Ser, still bearing the burn marks, looking directly at the camera in the complete darkness of the room, his eyes shining like little lights.

 - Let the game begin, survive! - Shouts the creature in its macabre voice, after which the camera locks onto its transmission.

 - Where did it go? - He asks himself in despair, especially when the sound of metal footsteps echoes from below him.

His desperation led him to search through many cameras and in one of them, he found the Centipede-like being wandering around in a warehouse-like place.

However, the place was almost dark, with little light to better identify where it was, and with this little light, it showed the Centipede-like Being looking at the camera with a macabre smile.

"Why on earth would there be a warehouse here? What is this place anyway? Wasn't it supposed to be where that day happened?"

Now, like his nightmares, he will have to deal with these creatures.

But a phone rings in the corner of the room, and being afraid of who might be on the other end of the call, Lucas answers it, picking up the landline, on the wall on the left side of the room, in a place where all he has to do is get up from his chair and walk to the left.

 - Hello, can you hear me? - A mechanical voice asks.

 - Who are you?

 - I'm one of them. - At that point, he wasn't even that scared, but it still gave him a fright, so much so that he didn't answer straight away, he just continued listening to what it was saying. - I know, you might think I'm coming to you, but I'm actually hiding in a corner of this building to help you.

Extremely suspicious, Lucas turned back to look at the cameras, leaving the man on the other end of the call with no reply.

 - Hello? Can you hear me?

And watching the program again, he sees The Being arriving in the corridor he had just passed.

 - Not that one! - He shouts desperately, looking for somewhere to hide.

The sounds of the creature's footsteps only increase, until as he reaches the door, Lucas suddenly sees a thick steel plate coming down to protect the door from the creature's onslaught.

The Being hits it hard, but is unable to break it down.

Then he hears from the wall phone.

 - I would never let them get to you, not with me here, I spent nine years waiting for someone who could put an end to them once and for all, so I took over the security systems of this place.

Lucas, still afraid, goes and answers the call again.

 - I just want to get out of here, I don't care, I don't even know what happened here.

 - I understand, but I can't let you go, your name is Lucas isn't it?

"How does he know my name?" - Lucas thinks, confused and surprised at the same time.

 - Yes, I am.

 - They've talked about you a lot, but they want to do to you what they did to me when my friends and I invaded this place, they died, but in the state I'm in now, it would have been better if I had died with them, and that's why I want you to help me carry out a plan that I've created and perfected over the years.

 - Okay then, after all, I have no other option. - Lucas comments, looking very worriedly at the door now protected by the steel plate, which is being slammed so loudly.

 - Very well, now you must follow my instructions to the letter. - The voice coming from the telephone comments cheerfully.

So, without knowing where he is, alone at the mercy of his nightmares, Lucas must now face his fears, because now they are real.

 Audio recording .. : .. ../../....

Sounds of fire and the screams of desperate people.

 - Holy shit! What's going on out there?!

Sounds of typing on the keyboard and clicking the mouse.

 - What the hell! The cameras aren't working!

Suddenly there are sounds of gunshots, metal footsteps and creatures attacking, and the sounds of an alarm going off.

 - It could be! Now it's every man for himself.

Then the sound of the steel plate descending.

The sound of that person's footsteps.

Then the recording starts to be interfered with, adding a macabre laugh to the recording.

 - Now we just have to wait, how did this happen? Hopefully someone will come and save me, I just hope...
