The forest elves constructed homes high in the treetops with astonishing precision. Some of them had fused with the trees, as if the trunks themselves offered sanctuary. Others jutted out beyond the branches, supported by thick beams carved from massive limbs. Wooden platforms connected by sturdy walkways with woven branch railings bridged the various levels. Each home had at least one spacious veranda—roofed, yet open to the air—where elves gathered, talked, and rested.
