"If only you could use that smart head of yours to escape," the lady remarked, bringing a sense of relief to Lilith. She was right, the lady harbored feelings for Elijah, but judging by her reaction, it must be a one-sided affection. What did she even see in a playboy like Elijah? Encountering two women with questionable taste in men in a single day was a bit overwhelming for her.
"So, will you help me?" She asked.
"Why ask when you already know the answer?" The lady responded, prompting Lilith to smile. Strangely, she liked the lady and didn't harbor the animosity she thought she should.
"In two days, there will be a meeting with the elders of the pack house, the Alpha, and his mother. Elijah dislikes formalities, so he won't attend the meeting. I can find a way to distract him until you leave," she said, walking back to the bed and sitting down to divulge the information.
"Is the meeting being held here in the pack house?" Lilith inquired.
"Yes, but once the meeting starts, no one enters the hall. You will have exactly an hour to escape and run as far as you can. If you get caught, I won't help you, you are on your own," she continued.
"I won't get caught, not if you don't snitch," Lilith said.
"You might want to tone down your defiance for the next two days. Endure whatever challenges come your way because we need you to be free, not locked up, for things to go smoothly. Do you understand what I mean?" The lady said.
"Yes, stay away from trouble," Lilith responded.
"No, stay away from Rose and your soon-to-be mother-in-law, and if possible, Elijah too. But you will never be able to avoid Zayd, not with Elijah trying so hard to provoke him," the lady said, causing Lilith to mutter, "Ohh." Truly, they were the real trouble.
"I got it. Can I ask your name? You know, just to know…" Cutting her off, the lady replied, "Ava," making Lilith swallow her remaining words.
"Quite the cutting-off one, huh!" She joked, though she actually meant it. Ava seemed to be someone who goes straight to business rather than wasting time on small talk.
"Try not to be seduced," Ava advised and soon left, disappearing before Lilith could question what she meant. It was only after she had gone that Lilith realized what Ava meant. Her cheeks flushed at the realization that everyone in the pack house had already heard about what happened in the bathroom between her and Zayd. To think the maids acted so unbothered only to spread rumors was annoying.
The Following Morning
"Ahh!!" Lilith cried out as a loud jingle of a bell woke her from her sleep. Groaning, she turned in bed, covering her ears with the pillow. When the noise grew unbearable, she opened her eyes and sat up, looking for the source of the noise, only to frown when she saw Madam Agnes standing in her room with some maids.
'What do they want again?' She thought inwardly, almost rolling her eyes.
"The Alpha wants his food served in his room today," Madam Agnes relayed.
"Me? Like this? I am injured and reek of blood. How could I possibly serve the almighty Alpha?" She responded sarcastically, almost laughing at how cringe she sounded.
"You could either delay and sleep in the dungeon tonight or serve him and sleep peacefully," Madam Agnes said, leaving the room without another word.
Remembering Ava's advice, Lilith quickly rose from the bed, retrieved the tray from one of the maids, and left her room with the maids following closely.
Upon reaching his room, she took a deep breath and opened the door, halting when she heard, "Lilith is to enter alone." Her eyes widened, wondering why he only wanted to be served by her. Could he be planning to seduce her again? That annoying bastard, misusing his power every time.
She shut the door behind her and stepped further in, placing the tray on the table and standing there with her head bowed.
"Bring it here," he commanded. She raised her head to see where "here" was, only to find him seated on the bed.
Without hesitation, she formed a smile and walked up to him with the tray, placing it on the bed once she was near.
"Open it," he commanded again, and she unveiled the food.
"Feed me," he commanded once more. Inwardly, she had gunned him down a million times.
Picking up the spoon, she scooped a spoonful of porridge and brought it close to his mouth. She continued until the third spoonful without looking into his eyes once.
"Hmm!" He groaned uncomfortably. She finally looked up, parting her mouth when she saw a stain of porridge near his lips.
"Ah! I am sorry," she said, picking up wipes and moving to clean it, but shrieked when he suddenly grabbed her wrist, forcing her to gaze at him.
"Who was in your room last night?" He asked out of nowhere, causing Lilith's heart to race. If she lied, he would know, since he could easily find out who. But if she mentioned Elijah's name, he would definitely punish her, and she couldn't afford that now. What should she say?
"Who could possibly be in my room? Have you forgotten? You instructed everyone not to tend to me," she responded with a fake smile, which soon faded when his gaze darkened.
"I could have asked the maids, but I am asking you instead. Do you know why?" He asked. Lilith shook her head, gulping in fear.
"Their answer might cost their heads. Do not let me ask again, who was in your room last night?" He said, and Lilith's heart almost stilled at the mention of heads. Why was he always so quick to threaten people?
"I… Ava. She said someone sent her to help me with my wounds. I don't know who, that's all I know about her."
