Chapter 21 - Show Time

Christian closed the door behind him, feeling his heart pounding in his ears. He couldn't understand why Remy had such a strong effect on him. Despite his efforts to keep himself in check, he found himself drawn to her in ways he couldn't control.

The thought of being swept up in his emotions terrified him, especially knowing the reasons he'd married her in the first place. He needed to focus on the matters at hand, not get tangled in feelings that could complicate everything. He needed to stay in control.

Christian took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down, but it wasn't working, he took a glass of water and decided to take a cold shower, even though it's not been up to an hour he showered, hoping it would help him cool off.

Afterward, he felt slightly more composed and brought out his laptop to attend to some pressing issues.

One of his men had called earlier with news even though he instructed that Rezo should handle it, they'd found the person he'd been searching for – the person connected to his mother's death and the incidents that happened in the past so he knew his presence was needed.

Just as he was about to dive into work, Christian remembered he planned earlier – to spend time with Remy and make dinner. Despite his inner turmoil, he found himself getting up and heading to the kitchen.

He couldn't shake off the feeling that he wanted to be with her, despite his resolve to keep his emotions in check.

Not trusting himself to cook something worthy, he called for assistance from the head chef, who guided him through the preparation.

When the dinner was ready, Remy was already done and they sat down to eat together. The evening passed quietly, and the silence was too much so Remy called her four friends to join them and to her dismay they had this knowing smiles on their faces.

Avery must have said something! That girl! After dinner, she thanked Christian and they retired to their respective rooms, each lost in their different thoughts.

Chris knew Remy was a good person, and it wasn't her fault that certain events she probably don't even know about had happened, but the circumstances of his mother's death were complex.

His mother, Vynessa Kaidën who ran a foundation that advocated for social justice, helping underprivileged communities and protected children from abuse and trafficking, had discovered Grant's plan to sell Remy when she was just eleven, a year after her mother's death.

In a bid to rescue Remy before she becomes a victim his mother had rushed into action, instead of taking measures, but a shootout ensued within the vicinity, and she was fatally shot.

It turned out they had drugs with them also and an underworld beef with another group. Though Remy was rescued, she had been under the influence of drugs and unconscious during the incident and didn't remember anything that had happened.

Grant was probably the one who gave her the drug.

The cops arrived and they were arrested, but the case wasn't tried in court and the incident was secretly taken care of without the involvement of the paparazzi, Vynessa Kaidën's death was just announced and her funeral was done discreetly.

They were so many things at stake then, Grant was released though some of his colleagues were detained by the Kaidëns, they couldn't risk it due to some other reasons.

Grant seemed to have a backer, who has something against the Kaidëns as well.

But Christian isn't about to let him get away with it just yet, he was going to ruin Grant Harrison slowly and he was already working towards it.

Though he had been abroad for years while his sister Kaida handled Dek Global Corp and was also away when this happened, but he do come back at times and had come back one time and gone undercover to investigate.

He didn't know wether to blame his mom or the innocent Remy because even before that happened, his mother had a history with Remy, she wouldn't stop talking about this cute little girl she met and how she would like him to marry her in the future.

That was probably why she freaked out knowing what Grant wanted to do and had to endanger herself.

Also for some reason he doesn't know about, Grant Harrison and his father Grey Kaidën seem to have another beef between themselves, apart from the killing of his mother.

Given the complicated situation between their families and the deep grudge they had, it would be hard for him to let go of the past and open his heart to Remy so easily.

The weight of their family's past still lingered, so opening up to her completely or falling in love wasn't an option, at least for now.

He had initially married Remy to provoke Grant, but things hadn't quite gone as planned.

Contrary to his expectations, Grant didn't seem to care much about Remy's well-being, though he knew Grant wouldn't be glad about the fact that they're together.

And Christian also found himself touched by Remy's pitiful life in the Harrison family. He had considered marrying Sophia instead so Grant would be mad but her despicable attitude and lifestyle repulsed him and she wouldn't cooperate with him.

Remy, on the other hand, was a different story. He could use Remy to gather evidence against Grant and bring down the Harrison family, using her willingness to work with him to ruin her own family.

But he would ruin them all together - Grant, his wife Helena, Sophia, Julian Smith and every other person who had contributed to any of Remy's pain in one way or another. He would make sure they regret it.

At Sophia and Julian's sprawling million-dollar mansion, the opulent interior shone with marble floors and crystal chandeliers.

The servants in their uniforms bustled about in the kitchen, expertly preparing dinner. Pots clanged, utensils scraped against pans, and the aroma of roasting meats wafted through the air as they cooked up a feast.

Others set the dining table with fine wines, crystal glasses and plates, while the pastry chef carefully made the desserts.

Sophia sat in front of the mirror in their lavish bedroom, getting glammed up for the evening. She rubbed her hands over her baby bump, her stomach already showing prominently. She was doing her hair and makeup, excited about the evening.

She had called reporters initially to capture their lovely family moment, and Sophia couldn't wait to show off their luxurious home.

The discussion during dinner would likely be about their recent project, their companies, Vaughn Glory or sugar coated words that would make them look good infront of people and they planned to release it to the media afterward.

Meanwhile, Julian lay lazily on the plush bed, still recovering from their earlier intimacy. He had taken a bath but didn't feel like getting dressed yet.

When his phone buzzed, he picked it up, and a smile spread across his face. Sophia noticed from the coner of her eyes and asked, "What are you smiling about?"
